
Where Tennessee football is predicted to finish in 2025 SEC standings
Heupel guided Tennessee to its first College Football Playoff appearance in program history last season. He is also 2-2 versus both Alabama and Florida.
'Embarking into year five, as I was getting ready for today, I really rewound back to year one and how myself and our staff came to Tennessee and the adversity in which we took the program over,' Heupel said at SEC media days. 'I'm really proud of what we've done, from roster management to some of the recruiting things we've had to deal with. It's how I know our best is in front of us. What has crippled other programs in the past, University of Tennessee and our football program has been able to flourish. You look over the last three years, 30 wins, the most wins in Tennessee in the stretch of three years of Tennessee football since the late '90s, if you look at the College Football Playoff, New Year's Six bowl wins, you look at what we've done in the NFL draft. The best stretch of NFL draft picks in Tennessee in over two decades.
"While we've been able to have that success on the field, players have done an unbelievable job inside our community. Each year we've set a team GPA record in the history of Tennessee football. I'm extremely proud of what our staff and our players have done here in a short amount of time."
Following SEC media days, media members voted on the order of finish for league teams in 2025. Tennessee is predicted to finish in ninth place.
Texas is projected to win the SEC and Georgia is second.

Lions safety Kerby Joseph, who is already getting accolades as one of the best safeties by media, coaches and scouts, earned his flowers from his peers, appearing on the list at No. 71. Tight end Sam LaPorta came in at No. 94. Joseph is also the second safety revealed thus far. At No. 92 was Atlanta Falcons safety Jessie Bates. Ex-New York Giants WR Richie James announces retirement from NFL
Former New York Giants wide receiver Richie James Jr. has officially announced his retirement from the NFL after six seasons. "It took time, but I have come to realize I am retired from the NFL. 7th round out of MTSU. I feel like I was just a ball player to last that long," James wrote on X."Unfortunately, my knee never healed properly. I was playing hurt since '22. Oh well. I gave everything I got to the game of football." James was originally a seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2018 NFL draft. After three-plus seasons in the Bay, he signed with the Giants in 2022 and wrapped up his career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023, picking up a Super Bowl ring along the way. Despite suffering a knee injury in 2021, James put up career-best numbers in his lone season with the Giants. He recorded 57 receptions for 569 yards and four touchdowns. He also gained six yards on two carries, and returned 24 punts for 174 yards. In the Giants' two playoff games that year, James caught 11 passes for 82 yards and five first downs, and returned three punts for 14 yards. Once a Giant, Always a Giant.
