The Mic Is Yours: ChatGPT Plus Users On MacOS Get Record Mode Feature

News182 days ago
OpenAI is bringing the record mode to ChatGPT Plus subscribers on MacOS via the ChatGPT app that lets you record and store.
Record Mode from OpenAI on ChatGPT is coming to a wider audience this week, especially if you use a MacBook or a Mac system. The feature has been around for a while but limited to Team, Enterprise and Education users.
Now, if you have a ChatGPT Plus subscription and use a Mac system, the record mode is available to handle your meetings and let you work on more important things. OpenAI confirmed the news via a post on X this week and making its remark, 'Plus users, the mic is yours."
As the name suggests, the record mode on ChatGPT can capture content and even process audio files and transcribe it on the Mac app. This tool comes in handy when you have to attend a meeting and can sidestep to let the AI handle the agenda, record the contents of the meeting and even listen to what everyone is saying.
The others don't even need to know that you have let AI act as your deputy and attend the meeting.
Features like these are not targeting the developers, instead ChatGPT can become a reliable tool for regular office users, who will have to spend on the Plus version but OpenAI seems to be saying it will be worth it. To use record mode in ChatGPT for macOS, you just need to press the Rec button which is there on the app.
OpenAI claims the recording is done locally on the system, then uploaded to its server for processing and finally gives you a summarised view of the meeting recorded that is private to the user. Having a Plus version means the meeting is part of the chat history and you can go back to the older recordings at a later date if needed.
The AI era is truly taking shape and we have seen companies like Google and Perplexity dish out free offers for their AI models recently. Google's Gemini AI Pro is available to students in India for free, while the Perplexity Pro version comes free for 1 year for Airtel mobile and Wi-Fi users in the country. We expect ChatGPT to have a similar tier offering soon and it could be bundled with one of these services.

Fire at Irans largest oil refinery kills 1 in countrys southwest

Last Updated: Tehran, Jul 20 (AP) A fire at Iran's oldest and largest refinery in the southwest killed one person, state media reported Sunday. A leaky pump in an under-repair unit at Abadan refinery caused the fire on Saturday, killing a worker, according to the state-owned IRAN newspaper. Firefighters put out the blaze in two hours and operations remained unaffected, the report said. Iran's deputy parliament speaker, Ali Nikzad, confirmed Sunday that some workers were also injured, media outlets said. Abadan oil refinery, some 670 kilometres from the capital Tehran, began its operation in 1912. It is the biggest in the Islamic Republic, producing about 25 per cent of the country's fuel with more than 5,200,000 barrels of oil refined daily. Several fires have broken out across Iran over the past week at residential and commercial buildings, with authorities saying gas leaks and electrical short-circuiting were to blame. Iran is one of the world's major producers of oil, though sanctions by Western countries have limited its sales. (AP) RD RD Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
