Senate passes landmark crypto legislation with bipartisan support
The 68-30 vote reflects a major victory for the crypto industry, which has been aggressively lobbying Congress on the legislation. The bill next must be approved by the Republican-led House before Trump can sign it into law.
Its passage also marks a turnaround from May, when Democrats who had supported the bill blocked it over concerns about Trump's connections to the industry. World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture linked to Trump that has already brought in more than $53 million, has launched USD1, a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin. Trump also held a dinner late last month for the top purchasers of the $TRUMP meme coin, owned by an affiliate of The Trump Organization.

The bill, dubbed the GENIUS Act, would create a framework to regulate stablecoins. Stablecoins are a type of cryptocurrency that are tied to the value of another asset, like the U.S. dollar. Comparatively, most cryptocurrency fluctuates based on market valuation, like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
"Digital assets are a force for good," said Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyoming, who has been a vocal advocate for the bill. "This legislation is also about economic security and opportunity. ... It ensures American consumers and businesses can participate in the digital economy with confidence and security."
The bill would create new guardrails for the industry, including requiring companies to hold a reserve of assets so stablecoin holders could always cash out, just like banks. It would also bar members of Congress or senior executive branch officials from "issuing a payment stablecoin product during their time in public service."
A vocal contingent of Democrats have opposed the legislation, arguing it does not do enough to regulate the industry and would directly benefit Trump, whose family business is already profiting from cryptocurrency.
"There is nothing in the GENIUS Act to stop this corruption. In fact, the Senate bill would accelerate the corruption," Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, said on the Senate floor on June 11. "It would make Trump the regulator of his own financial company and, importantly, the regulator of his competitors."

Arizona governor tours wildfire destruction along Grand Canyon's North Rim
Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs toured the destruction left by a wildfire along the Grand Canyon's North Rim, on Saturday, surveying what she described as devastating damage. The governor, who has called for an investigation into how the blaze was handled, sought to gather information ahead of meetings with federal officials next week, looked intently out the window as the Black Hawk helicopter she was riding snaked over the Grand Canyon.

Napheesa Collier named WNBA All-Star Game MVP as Team Collier cruises past Team Clark
INDIANAPOLIS — Paige Bueckers wasted no time. When the WNBA All-Star Game began Saturday night, featuring a handful of unique rules that included a 4-point line, the Dallas Wings rookie launched and nailed a 4-point shot to start the game. It was a sign of things to come as Bueckers and Team Collier cruised to a 151-131 victory over Team Clark in the WNBA All-Star Game. Saturday marked the first time the league held its annual midseason showcase in Indiana, and for a state that proudly claims its love of basketball is greater than the other 49, the atmosphere remained upbeat despite a lopsided outcome. Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier took home the MVP honors with an efficient performance that mirrored the ones that've placed her at the forefront of the regular-season MVP conversation. The five-time All-Star finished with 36 points, including four 4-pointers, and nine rebounds. Collier's 36 points were an All-Star Game record, but it's worth noting that Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale's previous record of 34 points in last year's All-Star Game was not aided by 4-pointers. During Collier's trophy presentation, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert's voice was drowned out by loud chants of 'PAY THEM! PAY THEM!' in reference to the ongoing collective bargaining agreement negotiations between the WNBA and the WNBA Players Association. The players wore black T-shirts with white lettering that said 'Pay Us What You Owe Us!' during warmups to further their message about wanting higher salaries in the new CBA. The current CBA expires Oct. 31. 'The players is what is building this brand and this league,' Collier said. 'There is no league without the players. Past, present, the (players) coming up — they're the ones that have put in the blood, sweat and tears for the new money that's coming in, and so we feel like we are owed a piece of that pie that we helped to create.' Aside from CBA levering, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray and Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum also had solid showings for Team Collier with 18 and 16 points. Plum provided some of the funnier moments of the night by fouling her former Las Vegas Aces teammate A'ja Wilson as Wilson dribbled up the court in the first quarter and refused to let her go. Adding to her shenanigans, Plum threw the ball off the back of Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell, who represented Team Clark, in the second quarter before throwing a behind-the-back pass to Seattle Storm guard Skylar Diggins, who then dished it to New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart for a layup that gave Team Collier a 76-54 lead. Fellow Team Collier member and Storm forward Nneka Ogwumike scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting to become the second all-time leading scorer in WNBA All-Star Game history. The 2012 No. 1 pick and 10-time All-Star has now scored 116 points in the All-Star Game, trailing only Lynx legend Maya Moore for the most all time (119 points). Diggins, a seven-time All-Star, made history as well. The Indiana native and 2009 Indiana Miss Basketball recorded the first triple-double in All-Star Game history with 11 points, 11 rebounds and an All-Star Game record 15 assists. Fever star Caitlin Clark was sidelined for Team Clark on Saturday with a right groin injury, but as the unofficial host of All-Star weekend, her presence was still felt before and during the game. The two-time All-Star received the loudest roar during pregame intros and spent most of the night cheering on her teammates. However, in typical Clark fashion, she couldn't help but talk a little trash. After Plum got called for a travel in the third quarter, Clark immediately popped up off the bench and demonstratively mimicked the referee's traveling signal and made sure Plum didn't miss it. The Fever were still well-represented in the All-Star Game with center Aliyah Boston and guard Mitchell making their third appearances. Mitchell paced Team Clark with 20 points, two rebounds and two assists. Boston chipped in with 9 points and six rebounds. Washington Mystics rookie Kiki Iriafen, also representing Team Clark, capped the night with a 4-pointer in the closing seconds. She scored 17 points off the bench as every reserve for Team Clark reached double figures in scoring. This article originally appeared in The Athletic. Costco locations begin to make the switch from Pepsi to Coca-Cola at food courts
Costco's switch from Pepsi to Coca-Cola drinks at its food courts is underway. The change at Costco's food courts 'began rolling out across all Costco warehouses' at the beginning of July, The Coca-Cola Company said in a statement to FOX Business. Advertisement All of Costco's food courts will offer Coca-Cola products by the fall. It comes at a time when President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that Coca-Cola was going to switch to using cane sugar as a sweetener instead of high-fructose corn syrup. Coca-Cola has neither confirmed nor denied Trump's claim. However, it has thrust the drink maker into a brighter spotlight despite its market dominance. Advertisement The warehouse retailer's change to Coca-Cola beverages may not come as a surprise to members considering Costco CEO Ron Vachris said in January the company would be 'converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca-Cola' this summer. It nonetheless marks a big change for Costco food courts, which had offered Pepsi products since 2013. 'Costco insiders and Coca-Cola fans are buzzing about the transition, which will span warehouses in 14 countries, allowing Costco members everywhere to once again enjoy their favorite Coca-Cola beverages alongside Costco's beloved food court offerings,' Coca-Cola told FOX Business. 3 Costco's food courts have started switching from Pepsi to Coca-Cola. Christopher Sadowski Some social media users have posted photos of Costco food courts to Reddit with a Coca-Cola cup visible in the signage for its popular hot dog and soda combo in recent days. Food courts are one of the many ancillary businesses Costco offers at warehouses along with gas stations, optical departments, hearing aids and tire installation. Costco has said its ancillary businesses encourage members to make trips to the warehouse retailer more often. Vachris said during the company's third-quarter earnings call in late May that it expects to reach 914 locations worldwide by the end of its fiscal year. In August, seven Costco openings are planned, with warehouses launching in Canada, Mexico and the US, according to a page on the retailer's website. Costco will release its fourth-quarter financial results in late September.
