Netflix fans left 'ugly crying' by 'absolutely heartbreaking' thriller so intense they 'had to take a break' halfway through
A Netflix tear-jerker has left fans so emotional they had to pause the film to regain their composure.
'Movies don't make you cry like this these days,' wrote one viewer online, after watching brand new heart-tugging Netflix film, 'Straw'.
From the mind of Tyler Perry (writer, producer and director), Straw sends viewers spiralling through a tempestuous day in the life of 'Janiyah' (Taraji P. Henson) as she faces adversity and struggles to make ends meet for her unwell young daughter.
The cerebral tale has been praised for its unexpected twist ending, and exploration of prejudice in the healthcare and banking systems, as well its call for discussion around mental health in Black communities.
'She's just trying to survive, just trying to be a great mother to her daughter, and then the circumstances in her life cause her to be in this situation,' Perry told Netflix's Tudum.
'I think that a lot of people around the world, no matter if you're a Black woman or not, will be able to relate to that feeling of, 'I'm at my last straw.''

After being released on June 6, Straw has rapidly ascended the Netflix charts, now hitting no.1 movie in the UK, and audiences online are bubbling over with emotion at the psychological thriller.

Straw marks Henson and Perry's fourth collaboration in the cinema world, having previously worked together on Acrimony, I Can Do Bad All by Myself, and The Family That Preys.
In Straw, Henson is joined by a stellar cast, featuring Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor and Jingle All the Way star Sinbad, in his first role since suffering a stroke in 2020.
Despite an emotive response on social media, some film reviewers were critical, suggesting that Taraji P.
Henson's tear-jerking performance elevated the film, whilst the writing and plot were subpar, and unsurprising from Perry.
Though critics reviews were mixed, the film received a 76% audience review on Rotten Tomatoes.
Henson expressed in an interview with Extra that she anticipated a stirring response from audiences.
'You never know what cross someone is carrying,' she noted, explaining that she hoped the film would invoke an impetus to show kindness towards strangers in the audience.

Netflix fans keep watching 'amazing new take on a classic' despite low rating
Fans have been singing its praises despite initial reviews Netflix viewers can't stop watching a 'must see film' that offers a fresh spin on a classic tale. The 2018 release, Robin Hood, has surprisingly become one of the most viewed titles on the platform, despite a meagre 14% rating. At the time of writing, it currently sits in second place in the top ten films most watched by subscribers in the UK. It's sandwiched between recent releases Tyler Perry's Straw in the top spot and French action thriller K.O. in third. Robin Hood is a radical reinterpretation of the timeless story of the outlaw who robbed from the rich to give to the poor. In this version, Taron Egerton, known for his roles in Kingsman, Rocketman and Carry-On, portrays Lord Robin of Loxley. He seeks revenge after returning from the Third Crusade to discover that the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham, played by Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn, has declared him dead and seized all his property, reports Surrey Live. According to Empire's review of the film, Robin's journey mirrors that of Bruce Wayne becoming Batman. Egerton's rendition of the character even starts being referred to as 'The Hood'. He is trained by Jamie Foxx's character Yahya or John. Meanwhile, Robin also attempts to win back his girlfriend Marian, played by Eve Hewson, who later starred in Netflix's The Perfect Couple. Marian is now with another man, Will Scarlet, portrayed by Jamie Dornan, who is actually a member of the Merry Men in the original tales. Despite the somewhat tepid critical reception of the film, Netflix audiences have found reasons to be entertained. One admirer took to the internet to express their thoughts, stating: "This is a must see movie. Its a new take and twist of the classic tale of Robin Hood and breathes life into the legend once again. It might not be the most historically accurate remake of the tale but that is part of its charm." They pressed on, saying: "Solid stunts and despite all the hate the movie has endured none can question the hard work and love the whole cast and crew put into it. Their extraordinary archery skills are way beyond just CGI. In fact they were trained by famous archer Lars Anderson and can more than handle themselves around a bow and arrow." Another enthusiast commented: "I thought this film was incredible. An amazing new take on a classic. The immense number of Robin Hood films were starting to repeat one another and it was frankly getting tired, but this brought the movies back alive for younger audiences that perhaps haven't been too engaged in the previous versions. With a brilliant cast, some of which are popular, well known actors, and others who are rising stars, I think the production is incredible." One person even suggested: "Outside of the legendary (Disney) cartoon, this is the best Robin Hood out there." Meanwhile, another voiced a congruent opinion: "It was so much better than expected. It was a different take on the old Robin Hood movies." However, not all viewers were impressed. One disgruntled film-goer echoed the critics' sentiments, stating: "Everything was just as bad as the trailer promised. Don't watch this unwatchable piece of garbage. It will haunt your eyes forever."

Benidorm's Crissy Rock sets record straight on claim she's 'living like a nomad'
Benidorm star Crissy Rock has set the record straight on reports that she is 'living like a nomad' and couch-surfing with friends. The Liverpudlian, 66, is best known as Janey Yorke from the ITV sitcom, but is now touring the country talking about her transition from acting to stand-up in the show An Evening with Crissy Rock: From Bedlam to Benidorm. Crissy made headlines over the weekend that she is 'living from couch to couch' and that her wardrobe is the boot of her car – which she has told the Metro she said in jest during an interview. Crissy has now clarified that she does have a permanent home in Norfolk, which she shares with her husband Julian Buck, who she married the same year Benidorm ended in 2018. Crissy went on to explain that the nomadic lifestyle she referred to in an interview with The Express was only temporary while she's on tour, driving herself from city to city to perform her one-woman show, which she said is 'part and parcel' of being a jobbing comedian. The performer explained that while at first she found the reaction funny, she then realised that it 'could have an impact on her tour' if people make the wrong assumption about her living situation. 'I did say that my boot of my car is like a wardrobe, because when you're on tour, you have to take suitcases with you. I am like a nomad because I'm on tour. I'm up and down the country, all over the place. 'That's what you do when you're on tour, you live in the suitcase. We don't live in a cardboard box.' She continued: 'You have to go where the work is, so it's not like you just sit there and go, 'Oh, I can't be bothered going there'.' Crissy has her next show on Thursday, in which she talks about her life since Benidorm ended. The sitcom ran for 10 seasons and 74 episodes before its finale in 2018. Benidorm focused on the Solana Resort, following various holidaymakers as they decamped to the Spanish city, and has since found a second life on Netflix. Benidorm boss Derren Litten confirmed earlier this year that he is in talks with ITV over a possible show reboot, which Crissy said would be 'fabulous' if it went ahead. 'That would be wonderful for the people who watch it as well,' she said. 'It'd be wonderful if they asked me to come back into it. Maybe me and Sherrie (Hewson, who played Joyce Temple-Savage on the sitcom) could lock horns and become rival manageresses of different parts of the venue.' 'Delightfully violent' action thriller starring 00s heartthrob coming to Netflix

Wrath of Becky, released in 2023, follows the events of explosive 2020 crime flick Becky, in which a father-daughter duo must fight for their lives when a group of Neo-nazis invade their vacation home. The sequel sees Lulu Wilson return to the role of Becky, struggling in the aftermath of the events of the first film, three years after the fact. While trying to rebuild her life alongside kindred spirit Elena (Denise Burse), a group known as the Noble Men breaks into their home and takes their beloved dog, leading Becky on a path of bloody revenge. The film stars American Pie and Dude, Where's My Car? icon Seann William Scott as Daryll Jr, a cell leader of the Noble Men. It's coming to Netflix in the UK on Friday, and for those who want to watch the first film before diving in, they can do so right now on Prime Video. It sits higher on the review aggregator than Becky, which holds a 72% score. In their review, AWFJ dubbed the film 'delightfully violent', adding that it is 'very silly and a whole lot of fun.' 'The Wrath of Becky delivers satisfying action, as this underestimated heroine makes some terrible people look like absolute fools,' the Los Angeles Times said in their review. added: 'There's a charming simplicity to a genre film that can be introduced as 'Let's just kill some fascists!' and Angel & Coote know how to pace and deliver this kind of gut punch of a movie.' Similarly, Bloody Disgusting wrote: 'Angel and Coote's playful tonal shift becomes instrumental in the sequel's success as an entertaining action-horror-comedy romp, and Wilson is more than game in taking Becky less seriously. It makes for an irreverently delightful time.' The Austin Chronicle surmised that Wrath of Becky is a 'bloody good time,' while Film Inquiry said it was 'playful but brutal.' Speaking to Screen Rant, Ouija: Origin of Evil star Wilson recalled the 'extremely exciting' moment she learned a sequel to Becky was happening. 'I remember wrapping the first Becky and people being like, 'Oh, it's time for a sequel,' and it felt just like bulls**t to me at the time. It was like, 'You're just saying that',' she said.
