Rohit Kumar used to sell mobile covers in the morning and study till late in the night for the NEET exams.
From the bustling town of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, an inspiring story of a young man has caught the internet, grabbing much praise over his hard work and resilience. Against all the financial and family challenges, the boy managed to clear NEET-UG—one of the most difficult exams meant for admissions to undergraduate medical courses in India. Rohit Kumar, who earns his livelihood by selling mobile phone covers on the streets of Jamshedpur, now aspires to find a seat at a government college in Jharkhand.
A video of Rohit's meeting with Physics Wallah founder and CEO Alakh Pandey is going viral, where the latter personally visited his shop. Rohit was a student of the Ummeed Batch—a special initiative by Physics Wallah. The video opens to show Pandey congratulating Rohit with a warm hug over his achievement. The boy goes on to recall his journey, sharing that he used to work in a shop in the morning and then study at night.
In another video, Pandey goes on to gift a white coat to Rohit, extending him best wishes for his dreams of becoming a doctor. Despite the odds, the boy scored an impressive 549 in NEET 2025, with an All India Rank (AIR) of 12,484, as per Livemint.
Rohit's journey wasn't an easy one from the beginning. His father used to work in a local vegetable market. After completing his Class 12 board exams, he had to drop out of college to prepare for the NEET exams. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that the boy worked at a medical store, which inspired him to pursue a career in medicine. 'I used to work all day selling phone covers and study till 3 am. Then again, I would wake up at 7 AM and go back to work," he told Alakh Pandey in one of the videos.
Internet users instantly flooded the comment section with praise and words of appreciation. One wrote, 'You make us proud," while another added, 'This is the real inspiration."

Australian court fines Qantas US$59 million for illegal layoffs

An Australian court fined Qantas Aus$90 million (US$59 million) on Monday for illegally laying off 1,800 ground staff during the Covid-19 pandemic, ending a five-year legal battle over the workers' rights. Federal Court Justice Michael Lee said he wanted the penalty to be a "real deterrence" to firms that might be tempted by the financial rewards of breaching employment law. Qantas decided to sack the workers and outsource their jobs in August 2020, a period of lockdowns and border closures when no Covid-19 vaccine existed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sleep Apnea Ruined My Life – Then I Found This Simple Trick Health Insight Undo Australia's Federal Court subsequently found that Qantas had acted illegally despite its stated "commercial imperatives" and later dismissed an appeal by the airline. It said the carrier had prevented staff from accessing their rights to collectively bargain or take industrial action. Live Events Long-dubbed the "Spirit of Australia", 104-year-old Qantas has been on a mission to repair its reputation, which was hit in recent years by the illegal sackings, soaring ticket prices, claims of sloppy service, and the selling of seats on already-cancelled flights. Qantas chief executive Vanessa Hudson took over in 2023, promising to improve customer satisfaction. She replaced Alan Joyce, who stepped down earlier than planned as Qantas endured heavy criticism over its treatment of workers and passengers, despite delivering bumper profits for shareholders. 'Move on' Qantas' fine is to be paid in two parts, the court said, with Aus$50 million going to the Transport Workers Union and Aus$40 million being held for future payments to the former workers. The penalty is in addition to a compensation payment of Aus$120 million for affected former employees that Qantas agreed to last year. "It has been five long years. Today is a victory, not just for our colleagues but for all Australian workers," said Anne Guirguis, who worked at Qantas for 27 years cleaning aircraft before being laid off. "We can close this chapter and move on now," Guirguis told reporters outside court. Transport Workers' Union National Secretary Michael Kaine described Monday's decision as a "final win" for the Qantas workers. "Qantas was not sorry to workers when it illegally outsourced these workers, many finding out they'd lost their jobs over a loudspeaker in the lunch room," Kaine said. "Qantas is only sorry now that it has to pay the largest penalty fine of any employer in Australian corporate history."

ITC places bet on premium aromatherapy

ITC Limited MUMBAI: For young working Indians juggling deadlines and responsibilities, mental wellness is becoming a priority. They are willing to spend on soothing experiences-for instance, something as accessible as fragrances. This is the market opportunity that ITC is betting on. The company has quietly forayed into the aromatherapy (home aromas) space with the launch of a new brand, Pranah, which will offer consumers a range of premium incense sticks, cones and scented candles. The home aromas market in India (with mass players such as Odonil, Ambi Pur) is pegged at some Rs 5,500 crore, but ITC is playing at the still-emerging premium end, where a few digital-first brands currently operate. The premium aromatherapy market is currently worth about Rs 500 crore but could touch Rs 5,000 crore in a decade given its rapid growth, Gaurav Tayal, divisional chief executive, matches and agarbatti business at ITC told TOI. "Post Covid, there has been a surge in consumer demand for wellness choices. The new generation is all about experiences," Tayal said. The market opportunity also lies in the fact that there are no big players in the space as of now and the products on shelves are not backed by science, Tayal explained. For now, Pranah has been launched on a pilot mode in Delhi and Bengaluru through quick commerce channels.
