Albanian PM proposes AI-run ministry for better governance

The Suna day ago
BERAT (Albania): Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has proposed the idea of an artificial intelligence (AI)-run government ministry to improve governance efficiency and eliminate corruption risks. Speaking at a tech and innovation event in Berat, Rama highlighted AI's potential to transform public administration.
'Very soon, artificial intelligence could become the most efficient member of the government,' Rama said. 'One day, we might even have a ministry entirely run by AI. That way, there would be no nepotism or conflicts of interest.'
While no concrete plans have been announced, Rama emphasised the need to explore AI's role in governance. The proposal aligns with global trends where governments are increasingly adopting AI for decision-making and administrative tasks. - Bernama-Anadolu

PERDA Remains Committed To Engaging Rural Communities Via #PERDADiHati Outreach Initiative

GENERAL TASEK GELUGOR, July 20 (Bernama) — The Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) remains committed to engaging directly with rural communities through its ongoing PERDA Santuni Komuniti MADANI #PERDADiHati outreach initiative. PERDA chairman Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin said the programme, which began in 2023, has so far held 11 editions across Penang and continues this year in five areas under its jurisdiction, targeting the participation of 10,000 people. 'This is our third year, and Pokok Machang in the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary constituency was chosen as the first location this year. 'We will continue in four more areas, including on the island, until October,' he told reporters after officiating the programme at the Pokok Machang public field earlier today. Also present was PERDA general manager Datuk Mohd Asri Baharum. He explained that the programme is part of PERDA's strategic efforts to uplift and support rural communities to ensure they have access to the latest information and benefit from various government initiatives and services on par with urban communities. He added that the active participation of various agencies and departments ensures the delivery of services in a more comprehensive, inclusive, and people-centric manner, aligned with the MADANI aspiration of social justice and shared prosperity. Meanwhile, Mohd Asri said the programme enables PERDA to gather feedback from rural communities, which will be used to refine and improve its strategic planning. PERDA also conducts engagement sessions with its entrepreneurs and stall operators to provide information and guidance on the management of PERDA-owned rented premises. Earlier, the event featured a wide range of community-focused activities, such as motivational and parenting talks, Agro MADANI sales in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), as well as the distribution of economic empowerment aid and Rahmah food baskets.

Trump Urges Senate To Cancel August Recess To Speed Up Nominee Confirmations

ISTANBUL, July 20 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- US President Donald Trump urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Saturday to cancel the Senate's traditional August recess, asking lawmakers to expedite confirmations of his executive and judicial nominees, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported. 'Hopefully, the very talented John Thune, fresh off our many victories over the past two weeks and, indeed, 6 months, will cancel August recess (and long weekends!), in order to get my incredible nominees confirmed. We need them badly!!' Trump wrote on Truth Social. bootstrap slideshow The Senate is currently slated to confirm six Trump nominees on Monday and advance his candidate to lead the Drug Enforcement Agency. The nominations include Emil Bove, a Justice Department lawyer nominated to a federal appeals court judgeship, and Jeanine Pirro, a former Fox News host, nominated for US attorney for the District of Columbia. Bove faces opposition from Democrats following a whistleblower complaint alleging he advised the Justice Department to defy court orders on migrant deportations, a claim he denies. Additionally, Trump's recent nominees for the National Labour Relations Board aim to restore a quorum to the panel, which has been nonfunctional since January after Trump dismissed its Democratic member. -- BERNAMA-ANADOLU
