KUCHING (Aug 8): Sarawakians are fully capable and ready to assume the role of Prime Minister of Malaysia, said Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He expressed confidence in the leadership qualities and capabilities of Sarawakian leaders to take on the nation's highest political office.
Nanta specifically cited Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusuf as exemplary leaders who have demonstrated strong leadership and vision, making them well-suited to lead the country.
Nanta shared these remarks in a podcast interview with Sinar Harian, themed 'Perspektif Politik dari Bumi Kenyalang: Suara Timur Malaysia', aired recently.
'If there is any possibility, even now they can be (Prime Minister). Just look at the way they perform,' Nanta said.
Nanta, who is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Secretary-General, described Fadillah, the Petra Jaya MP, as possessing the leadership qualities required for national leadership, while also recognising Abang Johari for his visionary governance and commitment to economic transformation in Sarawak.
On the topic of recent political protests calling for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's resignation, Nanta urged the public to remain patient and allow the federal unity government to continue its reform agenda under the Madani concept.
'Give him the time and space to rebuild Malaysia. It is not apt to make the call for him to step down now,' he said, adding that the country has made notable improvements in economic resilience and investor confidence.
Nanta also acknowledged the Madani government's proactive role in facilitating Sarawak's long-standing demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including the successful handover of Bintulu Port and MASwings to the Sarawak government.
'These rights were either eroded or not practised previously, but thanks to the Madani government, many of these rights are now enjoyed by Sarawak,' he said.
'Thanks to the federal unity government, Sarawak is now recognised as a region as it should have been during the formative years of Malaysian federation.' alexander nanta linggi Prime Minister post Sarawakian leaders

Rukun Negara Remains A Pillar In Shaping A United, Harmonious Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Rukun Negara continues to be a key foundation in fostering unity and harmony in Malaysian society, especially among the youth who will lead the nation in the future, said National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) director-general Zulkifli Hashim. He said the five principles of Rukun Negara are not merely slogans or ceremonial phrases but essential elements for the country's stability and prosperity. "Rukun Negara remains highly relevant. To build a united and prosperous nation, we must have a common foundation, and that foundation is Rukun Negara. These principles should not just be recited but should be deeply understood and practiced by every Malaysian in their daily life," he said during Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara programme last night. Zulkifli noted that following the tragic May 13, 1969 incident, which deeply scarred the nation's history, Rukun Negara was created as a national consensus aimed at uniting the people and preventing racial divisions. He stressed the need to strengthen Rukun Negara's understanding among the youth through education, community programmes, and public campaigns. JPNIN has been actively promoting initiatives such as the Rukun Negara Club in schools and universities, the Rukun Negara School programme, and special curriculum modules to ensure a deeper understanding of the principles. "We don't want the youth to simply memorise the principles. They must understand that 'Loyalty to the King and Country' is not just about the royal institution. It is about a commitment to the nation, respecting the law, and rejecting anything that threatens the country's well-being," Zulkifli explained. He also pointed out that the principle of 'Courtesy and Morality' extends beyond politeness in conversation. It involves ethical behavior on social media, respecting differing views, and rejecting hate culture that undermines unity. Zulkifli reminded that the responsibility of upholding national unity does not solely lie with the government. It requires the support of all sectors of society, including the private sector, non-governmental organisations, community leaders, and social media influencers.

58th ASEAN Day: Malaysia's Proactive Diplomacy Underscored In Regional Celebration

By Samantha Tan Chiew Tieng CYBERJAYA, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia today joined fellow ASEAN member states in celebrating the 58th ASEAN Day, with strong emphasis on this year's theme "Towards Inclusivity and Sustainability ASEAN Future." Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to grace the national-level celebration and deliver a keynote address, reaffirming Malaysia's continued commitment to ASEAN's shared aspirations especially as the country holds the Chairmanship of ASEAN 2025. The celebration highlights Malaysia's leadership and achievements during its chairmanship, including efforts to enhance regional integration across ASEAN's three core pillars namely political-security, economic and socio-cultural. One of the standout moments of Malaysia's chairmanship has been the Prime Minister's proactive diplomatic efforts, notably in mediating the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia. The move is widely recognised as a testament to Malaysia's steady leadership and deep commitment to regional peace and stability. ASEAN Day also serves as a platform to reaffirm the bloc's dedication to the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, a comprehensive roadmap that envisions a resilient, dynamic, people-oriented and inclusive ASEAN prepared to navigate future challenges. As Malaysia continues to steer ASEAN through the remainder of its 2025 chairmanship, a series of high-level dialogues, ministerial meetings, and cultural exchanges are expected to further advance the goals of Vision 2045. ASEAN Day is celebrated annually on Aug 8 to commemorate the inception of ASEAN in 1967 when Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand signed the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration). More than just a date on the calendar, ASEAN Day symbolises the enduring commitment of Southeast Asian nations to peace, progress and unity. It also reflects the region's collective aspirations for economic and social development, deeper cooperation and a shared identity rooted in mutual respect and solidarity.
