Pakistani man charged with sodomy, sexual assault in Shah Alam
Muhammad Hassan pleaded not guilty to all charges, which were read out in Urdu before Judge Norazlin Othman.
The accused faces two counts of unnatural sex under Section 377C of the Penal Code, involving a 19-year-old and a 15-year-old boy.
The alleged incidents occurred on June 26 and May 18 near Section 27 in Shah Alam.
If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison and caning.
Additionally, Hassan was charged with robbing a 19-year-old of RM230 under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years, a fine, or whipping.
In the same proceedings, he was accused of sexually assaulting two boys, aged eight and 13, in May and June.
These charges fall under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and whipping.
Deputy public prosecutors Nurul Sofea Jaysal and Ruthra Raj Selvarajoo handled the case, while the accused remained unrepresented.
Hassan, through an interpreter, requested court-appointed legal aid, citing no family or contacts in Malaysia.
The court scheduled the next hearing for September 23 to finalise document submissions and legal representation. – Bernama

'He was our world': Wife mourns husband killed in the line of duty
ALOR STAR: The wife of Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham, 35, fought back tears today as she remembered him as a devoted husband, loving father, and committed family man. Nur Azhanis Mohd Yusoff, 36, spoke haltingly through her grief, paying tribute to her husband who was tragically killed in the line of duty on Wednesday. Hafizul was responding to a robbery report during a break-in in Taman Golf when he was run over by a vehicle driven by a gang of suspects. The four suspects were all detained within an hour of the incident. "He loved to help his family, his in-laws, everyone. He was a good man," she said to reporters at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital Forensics Department. Hafizul, who was from Setiu in Terengganu, leaves behind three children aged four, nine and 11. With more than 15 years in the police force, Hafizul was a dedicated policeman who spent his entire career in Kedah. Azhanis, who began working at a private company just last month, said their final conversation was the day before the incident. Hafizul had returned home late and was still asleep when she left for the office the following morning. "Yesterday, before it happened, he went to pick up our child from school. He always did that, even when he was busy with work. His children adored him. They still don't quite understand what's happened," she said. She added that there had been nothing in his behaviour to suggest those would be their final days together. "Recently, he mentioned feeling a bit uneasy with his new duties. He used to be with the motorcycle patrol unit, but had recently been transferred to the criminal investigation department. But he said, 'What to do? That's work,'" she recalled. Azhanis said they had been married for 12 years. Hafizul had served with the police force for 15 years. He is expected to be laid to rest in his hometown of Setiu, Terengganu. Kedah police chief Commissioner Datuk Adzli Abu Shah described Hafizul's passing as a significant loss to the force, particularly in Kedah. Investigations are ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 457 for housebreaking.

Cop dies after robbers ram him with SUV during house break-in escape in Alor Setar
ALOR SETAR, Aug 8 — A police corporal was killed after he was rammed by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by robbers who were fleeing midway of robbing a house at Taman Golf, near here, yesterday. Kedah police chief CP Adzli Abu Shah said Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, died at the scene after he was struck by a Lexus SUV with four suspects on board. 'At 3.30pm yesterday, police received a tip-off regarding a suspected house burglary. A team of five officers and personnel from the Kedah police contingent's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was dispatched to the location in two vehicles. 'Upon arrival, the victim, who had just stepped out of the car, was rammed by the suspects who were attempting to flee. He sustained severe head and body injuries and died at the scene,' he told reporters when met at the location yesterday. A suspect was arrested at the scene, while three others fled in the same vehicle but were later apprehended in Kepala Batas, near here after they hijacked an elderly couple's vehicle at a hotel. 'They forcibly removed the male driver and took off with his wife, who was seated in the front passenger seat. 'The vehicle was later involved in an accident in Kepala Batas, where police successfully apprehended all remaining suspects in the surrounding area,' he said, adding that the suspects, aged 24 to 26, will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and Section 457 of the same Code for housebreaking. The suspected ringleader, 26, has 77 prior criminal records, involving burglary, car theft, and drug offences, while the other three suspects, believed to be from the southern region, also have prior criminal records. 'We will apply for a remand order tomorrow and continue our investigations,' he said. RANAU: A contractor was fined RM15,000 or 12 months' jail for installing solar lights near the 11kV high-voltage power line installation owned by Sabah Electricity (SE) without permit, which resulted in a fatal electrical accident causing the death of three workers. E. Royston Tan pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to the charge against him, Thursday. Advertisement Tan was the person in charge of the installation of solar lights carried out by Wong Yee Ming, 61, and two others. He did not notify SE which resulted in the accident that cost the lives of his workers, namely, Wong, Salih Laurel, 35 and Jimal, 25. The offence took place at 10.44am on Dec 13, 2024 at the Ranau Public Works Department. Tan had committed the offence under Section 55(1) of the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 which carries a fine of up to RM300,000, or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on conviction. Advertisement During mitigation, Tan who was not represented, asked for leniency saying that it was his first offence and was remorseful, adding that he needs to support his siblings, mother and grandmother. He told the court that he had paid compensation to all the victims' families as well as gave cooperation to all parties involved in the case. However, Prosecuting Officer Andryeno Thomas from Energy Commission of Sabah, urged the court to impose a heavy sentence as retribution for this negligence and as a deterrent to others, affirming that electrical safety laws must be obeyed. Andryeno further submitted that it was a serious offence in which Tan had conducted works near the electrical installations without lawful authority which ended with the fatal electrical accident to the three workers. He added that Tan, as a registered electrical contractor and holder of Form Q, had a legal duty to ensure that all works near power lines was carried out safely, including seeking approval from authorities such as SE and ECOS. 'This case is not merely about statistics. It involves lives lost due to their employer's negligence. Justice must not only be done, but also seen to be done. 'However, Andryeno failed to apply for any permit, submit work notification, de-energise the power lines despite being only half a meter away and provide safety training to workers. 'The workers were unqualified and worked under unsafe conditions, such as wearing slippers on metal scaffolding near live electrical lines as well as no supervision was provided,' Andryeno said. The court heard that Royz Enterprise, under Tan's name, was the contractor which was appointed to carry out the installation works at the said place. At about 10.35am, the 11kV high voltage main power line had tripped due to earth fault and was re-energised at 10.40am. At that time, Salih and Jimal were at the scaffolding to install the solar panel. The panel came into contact with the 11kV overhead line, resulting in an electric shock and sparks. Both victims fell and Wong, who tried to help Salih, was also electrocuted. The trio died at the scene. Investigation revealed that the distance between the solar lamp and the high voltage main power line was only 1.3m which was 3.45m less than what was required in the Electricity Supply Enactment.
