Three Real Madrid Stars Nominated for 2025 Ballon d'Or

The shortlist for the 2025 Ballon d'Or has officially been unveiled by France Football, and three Real Madrid players have made the cut: Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, and Jude Bellingham. All three are being recognized for their campaigns in what was otherwise an underwhelming year for Los Blancos. This year's list features a mix of youth, experience, and standout performances across Europe's top clubs. From Paris Saint-Germain, a staggering nine players have been nominated, including Ousmane Dembélé and Achraf Hakimi, on the back of PSG's treble-winning season. Notably absent from the list is Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d'Or but missed much of the recent season through injury. Dani Carvajal, one of the best players in the world last year, also had to drop out because of a devastating ACL injury. Other major nominees include Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, Cole Palmer, Mohamed Salah, and Lautaro Martínez. The 2025 Ballon d'Or winner will be crowned on September 22 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Here is the full list: Ousmane Dembélé (PSG)Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG)Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid)Désiré Doué (PSG)Denzel Dumfries (Inter)Erling Haaland (Manchester City)Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund)Viktor Gyokeres (Arsenal)Harry Kane (Bayern)Achraf Hakimi (PSG)Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG)Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona)Robert Lewandowski (FC Barcelona)Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool)Lautaro Martínez (Inter)Scott McTominay (Naples)Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid)Nuno Mendes (PSG)Joao Neves (PSG)Pedri (FC Barcelona)Cole Palmer (Chelsea)Michael Olise (Bayern)Raphinha (FC Barcelona)Declan Rice (Arsenal)Fabian Ruiz (PSG)Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid)Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)Florian Wirtz (Liverpool)Vitinha (PSG)

NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander receives key to hometown of Hamilton, Ontario

HAMILTON, Ontario (AP) — NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received the key to the city of Hamilton from Mayor Andrea Horwath at a public rally Thursday at Hamilton Stadium. Horwath also announced the Oklahoma City star will have a street named after him after capping an epic season by leading Thunder to the NBA title. 'Growing up as I traveled across the world, to countless states, cities and countries people always asked where I was from,' Gilgeous-Alexander told a raucous gathering in the north end zone after hoisting the NBA championship trophy over his head. 'I took pride in letting everyone know I was from Hamilton. 'Hamilton is different from every other city in Ontario, Hamiltonians carry a different sense of grit, determination, pride and energy than the rest of the province and honestly, I couldn't shy away from that. I carry that with me every day and everywhere I go so you guys can only imagine how (much) overwhelming joy there was when I found out I was getting a key to the city I love and a street named after me.' Gilgeous-Alexander returned to the Stadium on Thursday night. He was honored to start the second quarter of the CFL game between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the B.C. Lions. ___ AP NBA:
