The Dart May Return to Haunt Dodge Thanks to New NHTSA Investigation

Bet you'd forgotten about the Dodge Dart, hadn't you? It holds more than a few dubious automotive honors, and while the revived quasi-successor to the compact Neon was never a true enthusiast darling, believe it or not, Dodge managed to sell a few hundred thousand of them during its short revival in the early-mid 2010s. And perhaps more to the point, Dodge had to recall most of them back in 2019 because their automatic transmissions kept chewing through shifter cables, leaving Darts rolling around all willy-nilly even when they were parked.
Stellantis blamed the problem on excess heat and humidity wearing the bushings that held the shifter cables to the transmission. As they degraded, they could become loose, making it difficult to select gears. Eventually, they could fail entirely, and sometimes this even happened while the cars were sitting parked. And these weren't uncommon occurrences. While no serious incidents were reported, Dodge said the number of documented cases swelled into the thousands.
Well, according to NHTSA, it's happening again. And to make matters worse, the issue is reappearing in cars that were ostensibly 'fixed' the first time around. Dozens of customers have already come forward, and there are likely many more out there.
'NHTSA has received forty-four (44) consumer complaints (VOQs) alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and shifter cable detachments after the 19V-293 recall remedy was completed,' the agency said in its announcement.
'The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to review the effectiveness of the original recall remedy, understand the root cause of the bushing failures, and identify any other possible root cause that may affect the performance of the shifter cable,' the agency's announcement continued.
If NTHSA determines that additional action needs to be taken on Dodge's part, it could pressure the manufacturer into recalling them all over again— all of them. The good news is, even here in the Motor City bubble, these things are virtually non-existent. Of the 299,000 supposedly still out there, there might be six or seven that aren't rotting away in somebody's alleyway.

Feds Issue Urgent Warning To Volvo Owners With Hybrids And EVs From 2020-2026

Feds Issue Urgent Warning To Volvo Owners With Hybrids And EVs From 2020-2026 originally appeared on Autoblog. Electrified Volvos Don't Stop As They Should Safety issues stemming from recalls are not uncommon, and even the company that invented the seatbelt occasionally has to improve on things that it didn't get right, like the common rearview camera issue plaguing many. Thanks to over-the-air software updates, many of these issues can often be resolved without a trip to the dealership. But there's only so much one can do when the owners themselves don't take advantage, and that's why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is issuing an urgent warning to Volvo owners after the majority of them impacted by a recall last month have still not availed themselves of the fix. If you have a hybrid or all-electric Volvo and haven't already done so, please stop driving until you've downloaded the update. Complete Loss Of Braking Could Occur The NHTSA says that Volvo issued recall 25V-392 on June 12, with the goal of addressing a regenerative braking issue that, left unchecked, could cause an affected vehicle to "completely lose its ability to brake while going downhill." Volvo advised owners to turn off regenerative braking and avoid driving their cars until the recall was downloaded, but of the 11,469 vehicles impacted by this recall, approximately 1,000 still hadn't performed the update by July 15. The affected vehicles, including some of the latest 2026 models, are listed below: 2023 C40 BEV 2025 EC40 BEV 2025-2026 EX40 PHEV 2023-2025 S60 PHEV 2025 S90 PHEV 2024-2025 V60 PHEV 2023-2024 XC40 BEV 2022-2026 XC60 PHEV 2020-2026 XC90 PHEV One Incident Captured On Video Reveals The Danger To highlight just how important this recall is, the NHTSA has uploaded a dashcam clip of an owner experiencing the issue, which nearly resulted in a severe crash. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but had this happened after dark or in another place, or with cyclists or pedestrians nearby, things could have been a lot worse, especially given the weight of cars with charging ports. Unfortunately for Volvo, alongside the rearview camera issue mentioned at the outset, owner reports of glitches in other areas have some buyers reconsidering. Worse still, the automaker has been forced to drastically cut its U.S. lineup because of the impact of tariffs. Stellantis names new North American dealer strategy leader

This story was originally published on Automotive Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Automotive Dive newsletter. Stellantis appointed Jason Stoicevich to lead dealer strategy and performance in North America, a company spokesperson confirmed in an email to Automotive Dive. Stoicevich will report directly to Tim Kuniskis, who recently was named to head the automaker's American brands and the revival of the company's SRT performance division, the spokesperson said. In a LinkedIn post, Stoicevich said he rejoined the company as SVP, dealer strategy and performance. Prior to rejoining Stellantis, Stoicevich had been working as VP of sales at Sierra Automotive Group since July 2024, per his LinkedIn profile. Stoicevich spent several years with Stellantis and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Between January 2018 and January 2021, he was director of the California Business Center for FCA. Stoicevich also served as chairman, president and CEO of Stellantis Canada between February 2023 and February 2024. His appointment follows a string of high-profile leadership changes at Stellantis over the past year as part of an effort to turnaround the struggling automaker. In December, former CEO Carlos Tavares resigned amid falling revenue and shrinking market share in North America. In February, the automaker named a new CEO for its Jeep brand. The company in May named former Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa as its global CEO who the automaker said has a track record of growing vehicle sales and strengthening its U.S. operations. Filosa began his tenure as Stellantis CEO on June 23 and announced a new leadership team on the same day. Recommended Reading Stellantis taps Ram CEO as new head of its American brands
