FTX Limited Series a Go at Netflix With Julia Garner, Anthony Boyle Starring

Netflix has greenlit a series about the rise and fall of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and the two central figures involved — Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison.
The streamer has formally ordered The Altruists, which will chronicle how Bankman-Fried and Ellison 'two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye — and then seduced, coaxed, and teased each other into stealing $8 billion.' Julia Garner, who had been in talks to star in the drama, and Anthony Boyle will play Ellison and Bankman-Fried, respectively.

Graham Moore (The Imitation Game, The Outfit) and Jacqueline Hoyt (The Leftovers, The Underground Railroad) will serve as co-showrunners on the series. James Ponsoldt (Shrinking) is set to direct. The Altruists comes from Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground Productions, which has an overall deal at Netflix.
'For nearly three years now, Sam and Caroline's story has been my daily obsession,' said Moore. 'I'm so grateful to my friends at Netflix and Higher Ground for loving this story not only as much as I do, but in the same way that I do. And we can't wait to show all of you why.'
FTX went under in late 2022 after a run on customer withdrawals at the crypto exchange brought to light an $8 billion imbalance in its books. Bankman-Fried was convicted in November 2023 on seven charges of fraud and conspiracy; Ellison, who was co-CEO of a related hedge fund, Alameda Research — and Bankman-Fried's former girlfriend — testified against him after pleading guilty to other charges.
The Altruists brings Garner back to Netflix, where she won three Emmys for her role on Ozark and also was nominated for Inventing Anna. She'll next be seen in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, where she plays the Silver Surfer, when the Marvel movie hits theaters in July.
Boyle's credits include FX's Say Nothing and Apple's Masters of the Air and Manhunt.
Moore, Hoyt and Ponsoldt will executive produce the series with Vinnie Malhotra and Jessie Dicovitsky for Higher Ground, Scoop Wasserstein for New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios, Tonia Davis, Lauren Morelli and Garner.
The Altruists is one of several TV and film projects delving into Bankman-Fried and FTX. Lena Dunham is writing a feature film for Apple and A24, and Amazon's Prime Video ordered a limited series from Joe and Anthony Russo's AGBO and writer David Weil shortly after FTX imploded. On the nonfiction side, Mark Wahlberg's Unrealistic Ideas and Fortune magazine are teaming on a documentary, and Bloomberg has also produced a doc about the company's collapse.

Paramount-Skydance Merger Is Complete! CEO Ellison Outlines Future Roadmap

Paramount Global and Skydance Media have finally completed their $8 billion merger, putting an end to decades of legacy at the media giant. The PARA ticker was delisted from Nasdaq yesterday. The combined entity is now called Paramount, a Skydance Corporation, and has started trading under the new ticker symbol 'PSKY' on the Nasdaq. The merged company will transition from a traditional media giant into a 'tech-forward company.' Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Skydance's founder and CEO, David Ellison, has taken over as CEO of the new company. He faces a challenging path ahead to streamline operations and restore Paramount's former glory. On the occasion of the merger, Ellison shared his plans for the new company in an open letter to shareholders. He wrote, 'Today marks Day One of a new Paramount,' and, together with our leadership team, our board, and colleagues worldwide, 'we embark on the exciting next chapter of this legendary company.' Ellison Shares Paramount's Roadmap Ahead Ellison stated that, going forward, Paramount, a Skydance Corporation, will be split into three separate units: studios, direct-to-consumer (DTC), and TV media. He noted that this restructuring will help boost the company's efficiency and enable it to achieve its planned $2 billion in savings. This will also help the company reduce technology spending, which combined with other measures, will lead to cost efficiencies in labor, real estate, procurement, and workflow. Moreover, Ellison stated that, beginning next year, Paramount Plus and Pluto TV will move to 'a unified technology stack' to improve performance and cut operational costs. This integration, he said, will enhance the company's services and user experience by improving recommendations and speeding up delivery. It will also help Pluto TV attract new customers to Paramount Plus. The new company will deliver more movies, TV series, sports, news, and games to global audiences. Ellison plans to integrate advanced technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to boost innovation, localize shows to new language markets overnight, and build a proprietary ad-tech system to maximize yield across streaming and linear platforms. To conclude, Ellison hopes to restore Paramount's legacy and position it as a leader in the future of entertainment by leveraging the company's strengths and embracing change. After 1.7 billion hours, Netflix's new no.1 show is no surprise – season 2 is set to be even bigger

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. It was on Wednesday just gone that, most aptly, Netflix's most popular series of all time, Wednesday, returned for its season 2 airing. Well, the first four episodes wrapped into a part one release, with the second parcel of episodes due on 3 September. Can you believe that season one was streamed for more than 1.7 billion hours? Considering the season was only eight episodes long, that's an almost unfathomable viewership of 252 million people. You can see why Netflix is one of the best streaming services on that basis alone. I've been looking forward to Wednesday's season 2 release all week, but have thus far held out to catch the show's latest. I'm half disappointed that Netflix has taken the two-pronged release scheduled, as I've been finding other streamers' weekly drops a more enticing old-school cliffhanger way to watch. Wednesday S2 trailer What's Wednesday about? Wednesday is ultimately a spin-off of The Addams Family – originally a cartoon published by Charles Addams for decades since the 1930s, but made popular in the 1990s by Tim Burton's cinematic movie adaptation. Its legacy has endured – as Burton is still attached to the Wednesday series. Perhaps that's part of the reason for its cult-like status, as Burton's other menagerie of movies includes Mars Attacks!, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (2005), Sweeney Todd, Alice In Wonderland (2010), and Beetlejuice (both the 1988 original and its 2024 sequel), among others. Wednesday, however, is about the Addams' daughter, the titular Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, who is reluctantly sent to school at Nevermore Academy. She quickly gets wrapped up in all kinds of events, however, trying to solve a mystery that has roots deeper than they first appear. While Wednesday embraces the style of both the Addams originals and Burton's gothic twist, it also manages to squeeze a little light-heartedness and comedy in among the darkness. It's not one for kids, but it's not Stranger Things levels of horror. Why's it Netflix's no.1 show ever? Image 1 of 7 Image 2 of 7 Image 3 of 7 Image 4 of 7 Image 5 of 7 Image 6 of 7 Image 7 of 7 Speaking of Stranger Things, the fourth season of that hit show is actually the one to accumulate the most hours watched on Netflix, with 1.8 billion in total. However, that's from more than double the runtime in the season compared to Wednesday's first season, with 140 million viewers catching the spooky show by comparison. Interestingly, the critical acclaim for Wednesday varied. The score aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, cites the critics' rating as just 73% for the first season – good, but not the best we've ever seen. Season 2, however, is already set to be a bigger deal – netting 82% thus far (which could change with part 2's release in September). I think it's really the fans that have adored the show, however, with higher scores – 86% and 85% in respective first and second seasons – showing the love for Ortega's take on Wednesday as a character. The wonderfully integrated special effects of walking hand, Thing, always adds to the amusement levels too. So if you've not seen Wednesday yet then, well, you might be one of the few. I can thoroughly recommend it as one of Burton's better outings of recent years. Season 2 looks as though it's off to a stellar start, with more to come – so it's no surprise it's Netflix's new no.1 this week, in what could turn out to be an even bigger hit in the latest season.

Triple H's Response To Tiffany Stratton's Off-Script Dig About Charlotte Flair's Divorces Revealed

How did Triple H handle Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair going off-script on SmackDown during the road to WrestleMania 41? There was much speculation online surrounding the backstage reaction to Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair going off-script on one another on an episode of SmackDown weeks before their WWE Women's Title match at WrestleMania 41. The highly anticipated documentary series WWE: Unreal released today on Netflix. Giving fans unprecedented access to the behind-the-scenes workings of the company. One of the things that was revealed was a behind-the-scenes conversation between Triple H and WWE SVP of Creative Writing, Ed Koskey, that revealed how Hunter handled the infamous SmackDown segment. 'Apparently, it was the divorce line that sent her over the edge,' Ed Koskey said. 'She's upset. It obviously wasn't written in the promo.' 'So I need Tiffany to understand that's obviously not how we do this, right? So she needs to go to Charlotte and apologize, and they need to get on the same page,' Triple H said in response.
