Jaipur: In a landmark achievement, both Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater (JMC-G) and Heritage (JMC-H) have secured positions among the top 20 cleanest cities in India in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25, marking a significant turnaround for the Pink City.
In the category of cities with populations over 10 lakh, JMC-G ranked 16th and JMC-H secured the 20th spot, a major leap from their previous rankings of 173 and 171, respectively.
The results were announced Thursday at a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu presented awards to the winning cities. The event was attended by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Rajasthan's UDH minister Jhabar Singh Kharra, JMC-G mayor Somya Gurjar, and JMC-H mayor Kusum Yadav, who received the honours.
Both corporations were awarded 3-star ratings for their overall performance. JMC-G scored 91% in door-to-door garbage collection, 89% in waste segregation, and 75% in waste processing, earning full marks for cleanliness in both residential and commercial zones. JMC-H recorded 91% in waste collection, 50% in segregation, 86% in processing, and a remarkable 100% in overall cleanliness.
Mayor Somya Gurjar said, "This award belongs to our sanitation warriors, municipal teams, and the citizens of Jaipur.

China's exports of rare earth magnets to the U.S. skyrocket in June

China's exports of rare earth magnets to the United States in June soared by more than six times from May, a sharp recovery in the flow of critical minerals key to electric vehicles and wind turbines after a Sino-US trade deal. Outbound shipments to the United States from the world's largest producer of rare earth magnets surged to 353 metric tons in June, up 660% from May, data from the General Administration of Customs showed on Sunday. The subsequent sharp falls in shipments in April and May, due to the lengthy times required to secure export licences had rattled global suppliers, forcing some automakers outside China to halt partial production due to shortage of rare earths. Live Events In total, China exported 3,188 tons of rare earth permanent magnets last month, up 157.5% from 1,238 tons in May, although the June volume was still 38.1% lower than the corresponding month in 2024. Shipments of magnets are likely to recover further in July as more exporters obtained licences in June, analysts said. During the first half of 2025, exports of rare earth magnets fell 18.9% on the year to 22,319 tons.

New Income Tax Bill, 2025: Parliamentary panel report to be tabled in Lok Sabha on Monday

A report of the parliamentary committee set up to scrutinise the new Income Tax Bill, 2025, which would replace the six-decade old Income Tax Act, is scheduled to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The 31-member Select Committee, chaired by BJP leader Baijayant Panda , was appointed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to scrutinise The new Income Tax Bill, 2025, which was introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 13 in the Lok Sabha. The new bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha, has a word count of 2.6 lakh, lower than 5.12 lakh in the I-T Act. The number of sections is 536, as against 819 effective sections in the existing law. Live Events The number of chapters has also been halved to 23 from 47, according to the FAQs (frequently asked questions) issued by the I-T department. The Income Tax Bill 2025 has 57 tables, compared to 18 in the existing Act and removed 1,200 provisos and 900 explanations. Provisions relating to exemptions and TDS/TCS have been made crispier in the Bill by putting them in a tabular format, while the chapter for not-for-profit organisations has been made comprehensive with use of plain language. As a result of this, the word count has come down by 34,547. In a taxpayer-friendly move, the Bill replaces the term 'previous year' as mentioned in the Income Tax Act, 1961 with 'tax year'. Also, the concept of assessment year has been done away with. Currently, for income earned in the previous year (say 2023-24), tax is paid in assessment year (say 2024-25). This previous year and assessment year (AY) concept has been removed and only tax year under the simplified bill has been brought in. While introducing the Bill in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman had said that "substantial changes" have been made in the Bill. The number of words have been halved from 5.12 lakh, and sections reduced from 819 to 236. Following introduction, the Bill was referred to the select committee of the Lok Sabha and the committee was mandated to submit its report by the first day of next session. The Monsoon session of Parliament is scheduled to sit from July 21 to August 21, 2025.
