The revival of the Ceuta and Melilla Liberation Committee reaches the Spanish Parliament
Vox parliamentarians are calling on the central government to present a detailed «report» on the situation in Ceuta and Melilla, citing what they describe as «annexation threats from Morocco».
Both parliamentary groups argue that «relations with Morocco are at a historic low». Vox denounces what it calls the «unilateral» closure of customs in Ceuta and Melilla, and the Committee's alleged «intention to invade Perejil islet», framing these developments as «an economic blockade on one hand, and a sovereignty threat on the other». In response, the party is demanding that the government ensure the «protection of Spanish sovereign territories, including Perejil, Alhucemas, Vélez de la Gomera, Chafarinas, Ceuta, and Melilla».
Meanwhile, the latest voter intention survey by the state-run Center for Sociological Research (CIS), published last week, places Vox in third place with 18.9% support, behind the PSOE at 27% and the People's Party at 26.5%.

South Africa : Will Zuma's party succeed in ousting the Polisario's main ally ?
As Jacob Zuma, the founder of the UMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, visits Morocco, his party has issued a call for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to resign. Last Wednesday, the MK party gave the current head of state and leader of the African National Congress (ANC) a two-day ultimatum to step down. On Friday, July 18, the MK staged a protest outside the presidential palace in Pretoria, demanding Ramaphosa's ouster. They criticized what they termed as the ANC president's «negative record» since he assumed office on February 14, 2018. This development unfolds amid escalating tensions between the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA). The latest chapter in this political showdown between the country's two leading parties occurred on Friday, July 18. In a statement, Ramaphosa's party voiced its «concerns over the disinformation campaign led by Democratic Alliance MP Emma Powell against South Africa, and her apparent attempts to undermine the South African government's response to the new U.S. tariff regime». These events echo the turbulent weeks preceding the ousting of Pedro Castillo, a former Polisario ally in Peru, in December 2022. A few months after his arrest, the new Peruvian president rescinded in September 2023 her recognition of the «SADR». In Morocco, Jacob Zuma reiterated from Rabat his support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and advocated for establishing an economic and diplomatic partnership between South Africa and the kingdom. The MK stands as the third-largest political force in South Africa.

CNDH: Morocco, Palestine Unite for Joint Human Rights Initiatives and Capacity Building
Rabat — The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the Human Rights and Civil Society Department of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) concluded a weeklong training program in Rabat today, culminating in the signing of a cooperation protocol between the two sides. The Palestinian delegation, which included human rights and political representatives from the PLO, has been on an official visit to Morocco to strengthen ties and exchange expertise in the field of human rights. The closing session was chaired by Amina Bouayach , president of the CNDH, and Ahmad Said Al-Tamimi, head of the PLO's Human Rights and Civil Society Department. During the ceremony, the two officials formalized their commitment to continued collaboration by signing an agreement to deepen cooperation and develop joint mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights. The protocol outlines a framework for practical programs designed to build capacities, share experiences and best practices, engage with the international human rights system, and enhance documentation, monitoring, advocacy, and reporting on violations. Speaking at the event, Bouayach described the protocol as more than just a formal document, calling it 'a sincere expression of a collective will to establish sustainable cooperation and a firm commitment to advancing human rights causes.' She also acknowledged the serious challenges facing Palestinian human rights institutions, including mounting restrictions on civic space and persistent targeting of human rights defenders. These circumstances, she said, reveal the need for stronger cooperation and joint advocacy to support justice and fairness. The agreement outlines several areas of collaboration, including capacity building, exchange of information and knowledge, dialogue, and monitoring of relevant UN processes and jurisprudence. This initiative marks the first training of its kind between the Moroccan council and the Palestinian delegation and highlights Morocco's ongoing engagement with regional human rights issues, with the Palestinian cause remaining central to its human rights agenda. A US think tank credits Algeria with a role in resolving the Sahara issue
An American think tank with close ties to Israel is lobbying in favor of Algeria's interests under the Trump administration. The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, founded in 1985, stated in a recent report that «Algeria can serve as a key U.S. security partner in an increasingly volatile region». In January, Algiers and Washington even signed a military memorandum of understanding. The think tank encourages U.S. officials to «capitalize on Algeria» eagerness to restore its global image as a capable peace broker on the continent. However, that «eagerness» has been met with rejection by Sahel countries. Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger—united since September 2023 under the Alliance of Sahel States—have strongly denounced what they described as «Algerian interference in their internal affairs». Beyond the instability in the Sahel, the think tank also acknowledges Algeria's «crucial role» in resolving the Western Sahara conflict. «Boosting Algeria's self-perception as a valued partner will be critical given the unprecedented Western alignment behind Morocco's plan to negotiate a resolution to the Western Sahara conflict at the UN Security Council, and what appears to be an irreversible U.S. position of recognizing Moroccan sovereignty over the territory». The report suggests that «Algiers might even conceivably play a role in persuading the Polisario to accept a negotiated model of self-governance, with the Moroccan autonomy plan as the starting framework. But this unlikely development would have to be premised on U.S. respect for Algeria». Despite claiming only «observer status» similar to Mauritania, Algeria has officially rejected the most recent UN Security Council resolutions calling for the resumption of the Round Table process, which has been stalled since March 2019. On Thursday, Algeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its support for a resolution allowing the Sahrawi people «to exercise their inalienable and imprescriptible right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of international legality emanating from the General Assembly or the Security Council». For the record, Algeria hired U.S. lobbying firm BGR Group in September 2024 to defend its interests in Washington. The firm is known for its strong ties to Israel. Notable figures such as John Bolton, a staunch supporter of both the Polisario Front and Israel, the late Republican Senator James Inhofe (who passed away on July 9, 2024), and former UN envoy for Western Sahara James Baker, all voiced support for Algeria's position. In December 2020, all three welcomed the resumption of diplomatic relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv but simultaneously condemned President Donald Trump's recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
