ED attaches assets worth Rs 2.83 crore in transnational cyber fraud case

Patna: The Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Patna Zonal Office, has provisionally attached movable and immovable assets worth approximately Rs 2.83 crore in connection with a transnational cyber fraud case involving fake call centres operated by Sagar Yadav and his Kolkata-based firms M/s Scrapix Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd and M/s Casanovus Reality Pvt Ltd, a statement from the probe agency said on Friday.
The attached properties consist of land parcels, flats, fixed deposits etc. The action was taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
ED initiated an investigation into the case based on information of cyber fraud committed on Ms Carmel Fox, an Irish National, received from the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ireland, forwarded by the CBI.
Patna Zonal Office of ED initiated an investigation by recording an ECIR into this matter as the case was covered under the category of offence of 'Cross-border implication', since the offence was committed in a foreign country and later the Proceeds of Crime (POC) were transferred to India.
ED investigation revealed that a group of individuals was committing acts of cyber fraud on foreign nationals by establishing fake call centres and the POC generated through such acts of cyber fraud was brought into India via Western Union/Moneygram, Rewire, Remitly as well as cryptocurrencies and then used to launder via apps such as Lenden Club, Lendbox, Liquiloans etc.
So far, the ED has arrested seven individuals, including kingpin Sagar Yadav, and has filed one charge sheet and two supplementary charge sheets against him, his firms, and associates.
According to ED, further investigation revealed that two immovable properties were purchased in the names of M/s Scrapix Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd and M/s Casanovus Reality Pvt, with sale consideration paid using the POC.
These immovable properties, amounting to Rs 2.67 crore (approx) have been placed under provisional attachment. Movable properties, valued at Rs 15.75 Lakh (approx), in the form of Fixed Deposits (FDs) have also been placed under provisional attachment.
Further investigation is in progress.

The ATS revealed that Rajesh's wife Sangeeta is connected to a Rs 16 crore property deal in Pune, which is under investigation for potential links to hawala transactions and conversion activities. Earlier, the ED had conducted raids on Rajesh's properties in Lucknow. Additionally, probes revealed the Chhangur gang filed lawsuits against opponents, with Rajesh's involvement in these cases coming under scrutiny. Probe also revealed that Rajesh also assisted other accused in advancing their cases in the court. The ATS and ED were probing Chhangur's illegal transactions and properties when they discovered the Pune land deal, leading to Sangeeta's involvement. Subsequent transactions in Rajesh's accounts prompted further investigation by the agencies. Originally from Varanasi, Rajesh owns a lavish bungalow in Lucknow and was living in a rented house in Balrampur.

Lucknow: The Yogi govt is set to launch a major initiative under its zero poverty campaign (ZPC) in UP. As part of it, members of families identified through the campaign will receive guaranteed skill training, along with stable livelihood opportunities that will ensure a steady income and a better quality of life. Chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's ZPC, aimed at empowering the poor, will also promote social harmony. "It can become a model for the entire country, where govt and industries work together to fight poverty," he said. Singh said that under this campaign, the head of each identified poor family will be enrolled in a guaranteed skill training program. In the first phase, heads of 300 families will receive skill training, followed by all identified families across the state. The training will be provided by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission, with support from around 1,000 training partners. The training will focus on practical, job-oriented skills in areas where employment opportunities are high. Shravasti: Police have registered a case against six people, including five named suspects, for allegedly luring a minor girl from Nainital (Uttarakhand) into a "love trap," forcing her religious conversion, and sexually assaulting her. Four police personnel, including a station officer and three constables, have been suspended for allegedly taking bribes to release the accused. According to police reports, Abdul Rahman, a resident of Laxmanpur Kothi, brought the minor girl from Nainital in Feb by deceiving her and began keeping her as his wife. When the girl became pregnant, Rahman took her to a local doctor, along with his father Naseer, to get an abortion. The victim was then hidden at the house of Rahman's brother-in-law Maiku, who also sexually assaulted her. Rahman subsequently married another girl. The minor was later kept at the house of another brother-in-law, Asraafil, a resident of Bahraich, who also sexually assaulted her. Police showed the minor girl as a vagrant and sent her from a One Stop Centre with an alleged cousin named Priyanshu Arya. Following complaints from local residents, SP Ghanshyam Chaurasiya took cognisance of the matter. Cases were registered against Abdul Rahman, his father Naseer, brothers-in-law Maiku and Israafil, Alimul, and one unknown person under various sections including kidnapping, wrongful confinement, sexual assault, and forced abortion. SP Chaurasiya said the investigation revealed negligence by Sonwa SHO Gannath Prasad, who has been attached to police lines. Sonwa police inspector Atul Yadav and constable Girish Sharma, along with Malhipur police station constables Vijay Yadav and Dinesh Shukla, have been suspended.
