) leak it detected in
Falcon-9
, and a new date for the launch of the
Axiom-4 mission
is expected to be finalised after a meeting scheduled post midday here (late in India).
At the time of going to press, no formal announcement about a new date was made by SpaceX. But, sources who were part of the two meetings held on June 11 told TOI the final decision would be taken after a test scheduled for June 12. "The test is expected to take a couple of hours and they expect to complete it at least by 2 pm local time here. There will be a meeting soon after the test is complete," a source said around 7 pm IST.
"A final decision on the new launch date is expected to be taken there. As of now, SpaceX is looking at two options, June 13 and June 14, and the weather appears to look OK. However, the weather will also be monitored closely."
No final decision had been made at the time of filing this report. TOI had reported earlier that SpaceX had detected the LOX leak during a static test fire on Sunday (June 8) and made its discovery public late Monday, stating that the issue was being addressed.
Following that, the company said it was "standing down" from the previously decided June 11 launch, to "allow additional time for SpaceX teams to repair the LOX leak identified during post-static fire booster inspections". The final decision on the new launch date will also depend on range availability and weather.

Govt high school uses hydroponics to grow food for midday meals
1 2 Mangaluru: A govt high school in Badaga Yekkar, which has a space constraint to have its own kitchen garden for midday meals, found a new way to grow food through hydroponics technique. Hydroponics is a method of growing crops in water mixed with nutrients. On a trial basis, they started with amaranth and lady finger and are planning to add more crops based on the success. "The 15-year-old school with over 138 students faced land constraints. The total land is around 50 cents, and we have fully covered the available land, including a small kitchen garden, where produce is used for Akshara Dasoha (midday meal programme). However, the produce was insufficient to cater to our midday meal, and to increase the produce, we had no land. Therefore, I decided to try hydroponics to address the shortage," said Anith Kumar, a teacher at the school. The initiative was kicked off with help from the eco club led by Ramya K, a teacher at the school. In the available land at the school, they have grown curry leaves, spinach and black pepper. The yield supports the midday meal programme or Akshara Dasoha. Kumar told TOI: "We started the process a few days ago, and results so far are encouraging. It was launched as a part of World Environment Day celebrations. The advantage of this technique is that it requires less space and uses 80% less water. There are no diseases to the crop, unlike those grown in soil, and the product output is higher," said Kumar, adding that pesticides are not used to grow the crop. Currently, they have sowed amaranth crop in two trays and lady finger in one. Kumar said they are expecting the amaranth crop to be ready in another 45 days. He said as they are doing it for the first time, it will be a trial-and-error method. The technique requires major nutrients of potassium, calcium, nitrogen, phosphorus, magnesium, sulphur and other micronutrients. Tambdi Surla records presence of endemic moth orchid flowers
Keri: In the jungle of Tambdi Surla, wildlife researchers have recorded the presence of an endemic species of moth orchid. Ramesh Zarmekar, a wildlifer working in the region, sighted the flowering of Phalaenopsis – deliciosa, locally known as the moth orchid. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now During a survey of the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary in 2009, researchers collected this epiphytic species of the endemic orchid. In 2015, three researchers, Chhaburao Jadhav, Jeewan Singh Jalal and J Jayanthi, published the paper in the International Richardiana journal of orchids, highlighting the fact that it is the first report of the species in Goa, which extends its distribution further north in the Western Ghats. The majority of species are characterised by rather short, drooping inflorescences which display star-shaped, waxy flowers fairly close to the plant foliage. What is Zvezda module, Russian contribution to ISS further delaying Axiom-4 Mission
NASA and Axiom said in a statement they were postponing the launch so that, along with Roscosmos, the Russian Space Agency, they can get more time to understand the problem. The leak was detected in the Russian Zvezda module of the ISS and the three cosmonauts in the module are working to fix the issue. New Delhi: A leak detected near the rear of the International Space Station (ISS) has further delayed the launch of the Axiom-4 Mission carrying IAF Pilot Shubhanshu Shukla to space, NASA announced Friday morning. According to ISRO, the new launch date will be announced jointly by NASA and Axiom once the issue is resolved. The decision was made keeping in mind that Shukla and the three other crew members aboard Ax-4 Mission are expected to spend a minimum of two weeks living on the ISS, conducting research. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) also said it was 'working closely' with Axiom Space, NASA and SpaceX to 'responsibly address' the ISS module problem. The mission was initially set to launch on 29 May but was pushed to 8 June because of problems identified in the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. It provides life support systems, living quarters, communications systems and flight control systems to Russian cosmonauts aboard the station. According to the ISS blog, cosmonauts onboard the Zvezda module recently repaired the air leak in their module. However, NASA again discovered a change in air pressure inside the ISS, indicating a leak or anomaly. The cosmonauts have checked the interior walls of the Zvezda module for cracks and sealed the suspicious areas. While the pressure inside seems to be normal, NASA and Roscosmos are still looking for a longer-term solution. The ISS is made up of different modules attached by different space agencies—NASA, JAXA, CSA, ESA, and Roscosmos. While some modules like the Permanent Multipurpose Module by the ESA are used mainly for cargo storage, others like the Cupola by NASA are used for Earth observation and space walks. However, the Zvezda, like ESA's Tranquility Module and NASA's Unity Module, is one of three ISS modules that have life support systems for astronauts in space and provide living quarters. In the event of a new mission like Axiom-4 carrying a crew to space, it is vital for the station to be fully operational and intact to prevent potential problems during the docking of spacecraft or conducting research experiments.
