Global tour for Korean ‘K-Comics' launches in Cairo with ‘Hellbound' exhibition
Held throughout July at the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo, the exhibition spotlights the hit webtoon , which was co-created by writer Choi Gyu-seok and director Yeon Sang-ho, and later adapted into a globally successful Netflix original series. Choi attended the opening ceremony and met with local audiences, sharing insights into the story's creative themes of human belief, fear, and justice amid supernatural judgment.
Webtoons, Korea's original digital comic format, are known for their vertical scroll structure, cinematic visuals, and gripping narratives. The exhibition offers visitors a comprehensive introduction to the phenomenon, featuring selected scenes from , interactive displays, a photo zone, a stamp rally, and other content.
The exhibition in Egypt is the first of five planned global stops, with upcoming editions scheduled for Canada, China, Hungary, and Japan later this year. Its launch in Cairo highlights the expanding global reach of Hallyu, or the Korean Wave, and Korea's growing cultural exchange with Egypt.
As part of the exhibition's programme, the cultural centre also hosted a special workshop with Choi, who discussed the production process of , his creative philosophy, and the current state of the Korean webtoon industry.
The K-Comics World exhibition is open to the public from 1 July to 31 July 2025, daily from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Korean Cultural Center in the Dokki district of Cairo.

Korea Culture Week 2025 Draws Great Turnout
Yara Sameh - Ali Abo Deshish The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Egypt brought the curtain down on Korea Culture Week 2025 with a spectacular closing ceremony held at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC). It amis to enhance cultural and civilizational exchange between Egypt and South Korea. The annual event provided a unique platform that combined elements of Korean heritage and contemporary arts. The highlight of the evening was the Egyptian Preliminary Round of the renowned K-Pop World Festival, where rising talents competed for a chance to represent Egypt at the global finals in Changwon, South Korea. Egyptian performers captivated the audience with their dynamic, high-energy dance routines, expressing their deep admiration and passion for K-Pop idols. Out of 5 performance groups, the winners of the competition 1st Place The Groove, 2nd Place Hams Mohamed and 3rd Place Angster earned top honors and will be qualified for participation in the global finals, co-hosted in October by Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). The ceremony opened with captivating performances by graduates of the K-Pop and Gugak (traditional Korean music) academies, which were held earlier last month at the Academy of Arts. Their performances reflected the growing cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Egypt and Korea. Throughout the week, the KCC organized a rich program of events, including traditional and contemporary Korean music performances, a vibrant hanbok (traditional Korean attire) exhibition, hands-on workshops, and an engaging display of traditional Korean musical instruments. Visitors of all ages enjoyed hanbok try-on experiences and captured memorable moments in photos while wearing the colorful garments. The exhibition was curated by renowned Korean designer Kim Ji-Eun, who also led a popular workshop on hanbok accessory design that welcomed around 300 participants. Audiences also explored the 'Korean Culture Boxes' – a traveling showcase featuring miniature exhibits of Korean life, including traditional housing, hangeul (the Korean alphabet), and various cultural artifacts, offering an interactive cultural experience. Meanwhile, the KCC launched the K-Comics World Exhibition, marking Egypt as the first international stop. The exhibition features the globally acclaimed webtoon Hellbound, ahead of its next destinations in Canada, China, Hungary, and Japan. The exhibition will remain open to the public at the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo until the end of July. "Assassin's Creed" Live-Action Series in Works
Yara Sameh The long-gestating 'Assassin's Creed' live-action series adaptation is moving forward at Netflix. The news comes nearly five years after it was first reported that the streaming giant was developing a series version of the global hit video game franchise under a deal with game publisher Ubisoft. The project has gone through multiple creative teams in that time, with Roberto Patino and David Wiener now set as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. In addition to Wiener and Patino, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin and Austin Dill of Ubisoft Film & Television serve as executive producers, as does Matt O'Toole. The first 'Assassin's Creed' game debuted in 2007 and became an instant hit, with over 230 million copies of the various titles in the franchise having been sold to date. There have been 14 installments in the main franchise so far, with the most recent being 'Assassin's Creed: Shadows,' released in 2025. A film adaptation starring Michael Fassbender was released in 2016. The official logline for the show states that it is 'centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind's future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity's destiny.' The 'Assassin's Creed' games explore the war between the rival secret orders of the Assassins and the Templars as they use advanced machines to access the genetic memories of Assassins in different periods of the past to track down powerful artifacts called Pieces of Eden. This will be the first live-action series produced under the Netflix-Ubisoft deal. Previously, the two companies partnered on the animated show 'Rabbids Invasion' as well as 'Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix.'
