The latest place to capture the hearts of London's thrift-conscious, Americana-loving booze hounds is this poky joint opened by the same people as vegan Sichuanese restaurant Facing Heaven. Also found on Hackney's Mare Street – Hackney Central is London's answer to the Lower East Side at this point – Easy 8 is replete with classic 'dive bar' signifiers; think fairy lights, wood-panelled walls, a confusing array of wall decor encompassing both a Scully and Mulder poster and a framed Sacred Heart of Jesus picture, liberally tagged loos and eerie red lighting reminiscent of a David Lynch movie.

The menu is short and sweet, featuring seven (more or less) classic cocktails for £10-11 a pop, cans of PBR and bottles of Modelo, plus the obligatory dive bar classics of a beer and shot combo for £8, and picklebacks for £6. Don't leave without trying the michelada, a dangerously drinkable concoction featuring Clamato juice, several dashes of Tajin hot sauce, a good glug of soy sauce and a Modelo beer served half-poured into the glass. Just the right balance of zing, saltiness and umami, you'd be hard pressed to find a better one in Downtown LA.

Go on a Thursday. Easy 8 has been around since 2023, but only started making waves recently, due in part to its Thursday night taco pop-up, where patrons can line their stomachs with LA-style tacos for £2, before taking advantage of a 2 for 1 drinks offer. It doesn't get more cheap and cheerful in this part of town.

Then in 2000, Bubka landed a job with talkSPORT, bringing his iconic New York tones to the UK sport radio station. And his standing in golf saw him respected and revered by all. That included two of the greatest golfers of all time - Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Nicklaus was made an honourary citizen of St Andrews in 2022 and personally invited his dear friend Bubka to be there. And even the notoriously private Woods went out of his way to greet Bubka at The Open that year, seeking him out after a press conference after the iconic broadcaster travelled to the event despite poor health. Rubert Bell of talkSPORT paid an emotional tribute to his great friend and colleague. Bell said: 'Radio is about voice. There is no doubt when you heard Bob Bubka speak, it just grabbed you. 'Unmistakable, iconic, coupled with a wonderful, unique style. For over 25 years, his distinctive American tones enthralled and entertained talkSPORT listeners. 'His love for the game of golf shone through, coupled with a cheeky, almost rebellious element which made him not only a delight to listen to - but in my case - to work with. Baffled Rory McIlroy hits TWO balls with ONE shot in incredible never-seen-before incident at The Open 'Bob was unashamedly biased when it came to Tiger Woods - in awe of his achievements - particularly as he had been brought up in the Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer era. It was a testament to Bob that Tiger always seemed to reach out and say hello. 'In later years, Bob's health made it difficult to travel and his last Open in situ was at St Andrews in 2022. 'He loved being there - and the relish in which he drove his motorised wheelchair around the city was fantastic. 'But what he also loved was the interaction with talkSPORT listeners - and I know in the end, being part of the talkSPORT family was so important to him as he struggled with ill health. 'Even when physically frail, that voice never faltered. Covering the majors will never be the same without that delicious voice drawing us into the magnificent sport of golf.' Others in the golfing world took to social media to post their messages and memories. Mike Parry said: "I'm really saddened to hear of the death of my great pal and legendary golf commentator Bob Bubka. "He was THE best with an incomparably silky voice and unparalleled knowledge of the game. I worked six Opens with him. Joyous professional days... RIP Big Man." Jonathan Norman added: "After marvelling at his voice and broadcasting style for a decade, it was one of my career highs to work with Bob at the 2014 Ryder Cup. "He will be missed greatly. "I have a feeling he's in for a very rude awakening, and I feel for his family as well, because nobody wants to see one of your loved ones go through this." Her empathetic message came before she found out that Lauren was dumped from the villa as well following the introduction of a new bombshell in yet another twist. Love Island's most savage game returns as bitter rivalries explode - and Toni breaks down in tears Leslie had previously been critical of Toni and Harrison's relationship, especially after the pair reunited after movie night last week, and a clip shown to the villa proved Toni still had feelings for Harrison. If I had my way, I would hire one of those little planes that has the banner at the back and have it fly over the villa and that banner would say 'leave Harrison alone. Harrison leave Toni alone.'' American in UK blown away after trying sticking toffee pudding for first time
When it comes to desserts, there's a number of British classics and sticky toffee pudding is one of them. An American man who relocated to the UK has shared his first time trying it Sticky toffee pudding is a traditional British dessert made up of a moist sponge cake soaked in a rich toffee sauce and is often served with vanilla custard. The cake is typically filled with dates that add sweetness and moisture to the pudding. This famous English dessert can be found throughout the UK but it is particularly popular in the Lake District and the village of Cartmel, where it is thought to have been created. Russell, a man from Chicago, United States, who moved to the UK, shares travel, culture and food reviews on TikTok. He recently posted a video on the platform about his first time trying sticky toffee pudding. The American expat headed to Heavenly Desserts in Liverpool, which he observed to be a sit down restaurant just for desserts. Russell was 'very excited to see what they have.' He walked into the upmarket dessert cafe with branches across the UK and took a look at the menu. The food reviewer spotted the 'very tasty looking drinks' and opted for a cherry blossom and lychee seltzer and a passion fruit mojito. He firstly took a sip of the seltzer and found it 'so good' but he enjoyed the mojito even more. Russell said: 'The passion fruit mojito absolutely finessed my taste buds. It was so hot today, perfect refresher.' After cooling down with the beverages, he moved onto dessert and had his first ever sticky toffee pudding. He got it with custard, realising that 'this seems to be the British way.' The foodie doused the pudding in custard and then had his first spoonful. Russell exclaimed: 'Woah! It's like a sticky brownie. This is such a unique flavour.' He added: 'Also, I am officially in love with drowning anything I eat in custard. At this point I'm just eating spoonfuls of custard.' The American expat's TikTok video has garnered 154,000 views, 14,500 likes and more than 200 comments, at the time of writing. One user said: 'I love sticky toffee pudding, but I'm not a fan of custard. I'd rather have ice cream or cream.' Another fan of the classic British dessert shared: 'Sticky toffee pudding is one of my all time favourite desserts.' A third declared: 'Sticky toffee pudding is THE BEST dessert EVER!' Someone else suggested not to go to 'upscale places' if you want to try 'real British food' and go somewhere that has a more comfortable, homely atmosphere instead. Sticky toffee is a warm, comfort food that can be found at pubs, restaurants, hotels and some cafes. It can also be made at home by following recipes from celebrity chefs, including Gordon Ramsay, James Martin and Mary Berry, as well as the food writer and TV cook Nigella Lawson.
