Police Corporal Killed After Being Rammed By SUV Driven By Fleeing Robbers
Kedah police chief CP Adzli Abu Shah said Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, died at the scene after he was struck by a Lexus SUV with four suspects on board.
'At 3.30 pm today, police received a tip-off regarding a suspected house burglary. A team of five officers and personnel from the Kedah police contingent's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was dispatched to the location in two vehicles.
'Upon arrival, the victim, who had just stepped out of the car, was rammed by the suspects who were attempting to flee. He sustained severe head and body injuries and died at the scene,' he told reporters when met at the location today.
A suspect was arrested at the scene, while three others fled in the same vehicle but were later apprehended in Kepala Batas, near here after they hijacked an elderly couple's vehicle at a hotel.
'They forcibly removed the male driver and took off with his wife, who was seated in the front passenger seat.
'The vehicle was later involved in an accident in Kepala Batas, where police successfully apprehended all remaining suspects in the surrounding area,' he said, adding that the suspects, aged 24 to 26, will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and Section 457 of the same Code for housebreaking.
The suspected ringleader, 26, has 77 prior criminal records, involving burglary, car theft, and drug offences, while the other three suspects, believed to be from the southern region, also have prior criminal records.
'We will apply for a remand order tomorrow and continue our investigations,' he said.

'He was our world': Wife mourns husband killed in the line of duty
ALOR STAR: The wife of Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham, 35, fought back tears today as she remembered him as a devoted husband, loving father, and committed family man. Nur Azhanis Mohd Yusoff, 36, spoke haltingly through her grief, paying tribute to her husband who was tragically killed in the line of duty on Wednesday. Hafizul was responding to a robbery report during a break-in in Taman Golf when he was run over by a vehicle driven by a gang of suspects. The four suspects were all detained within an hour of the incident. "He loved to help his family, his in-laws, everyone. He was a good man," she said to reporters at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital Forensics Department. Hafizul, who was from Setiu in Terengganu, leaves behind three children aged four, nine and 11. With more than 15 years in the police force, Hafizul was a dedicated policeman who spent his entire career in Kedah. Azhanis, who began working at a private company just last month, said their final conversation was the day before the incident. Hafizul had returned home late and was still asleep when she left for the office the following morning. "Yesterday, before it happened, he went to pick up our child from school. He always did that, even when he was busy with work. His children adored him. They still don't quite understand what's happened," she said. She added that there had been nothing in his behaviour to suggest those would be their final days together. "Recently, he mentioned feeling a bit uneasy with his new duties. He used to be with the motorcycle patrol unit, but had recently been transferred to the criminal investigation department. But he said, 'What to do? That's work,'" she recalled. Azhanis said they had been married for 12 years. Hafizul had served with the police force for 15 years. He is expected to be laid to rest in his hometown of Setiu, Terengganu. Kedah police chief Commissioner Datuk Adzli Abu Shah described Hafizul's passing as a significant loss to the force, particularly in Kedah. Investigations are ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 457 for housebreaking.

Two held in Thai drug case, including singer Eda Ezrin, return home
Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the remaining four individuals are still in Thailand, pending passport activation before they can be repatriated. 08 Aug 2025 08:36am Eda Ezrin (left) with her mother Zahara Mamat, 47, after giving a statement to the police for over three hours at the Rantau Panjang Police Station yesterday. - Bernama photo PASIR MAS - Two out of six Malaysians previously detained by Thai authorities over drug-related offences, including dikir barat singer Eda Ezrin, returned to Malaysia yesterday. Eda Ezrin, whose real name is Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Wan, and Nur Aida Mamat, 33, are currently under the custody of the Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID). Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the remaining four individuals are still in Thailand, pending passport activation before they can be repatriated. "All six are assisting Thai authorities with further investigations,' he told Bernama. The four still held in Thailand have been identified as Eridieka Mohd Noor, 33; Zuhaira Nasrin; Eda Ezrin's husband, Mohd Affendi Ahmad, 35; and Mohamad Alif Deraman, 33. Meanwhile, Eda Ezrin's father, Wan Ismail Wan Yusuf, 52, expressed relief and gratitude following her return to Malaysia, when he was met outside the Rantau Panjang police station tonight. Earlier, Bernama observed family members gathered at the police station as Eda Ezrin was being questioned by narcotics investigators. She and five other Malaysians, including her husband, were released by the Narathiwat Prison Court about 11am (local time) after Thai prosecutors failed to present witnesses or evidence to support an appeal. The group had been detained since Nov 1 last year after being accused of possessing 6,059 Yaba pills. On Wednesday, the court dismissed the prosecution's sixth attempt to extend the appeal deadline. Eda Ezrin and Nur Aida Mamat were transported from Sungai Golok in an immigration van at 6 pm after completing documentation at the Thai immigration office. - BERNAMA More Like This
