Ed Sheeran's swimming trunks go under the hammer

Yahoo01-06-2025
Ed Sheeran fans from around the globe will have the chance to get their hands on more than 200 of the singer's personal belongings when they go up for auction.
The Shape of You songwriter has donated the items to St Elizabeth Hospice through Bishop & Miller Auctioneers, which is accepting online bids until 15 June.
Everything from a Star Wars Christmas jumper, guitar, bathrobe and a even a pair of swimming trunks will go under the hammer.
"We're really excited to have this auction and it's a really eclectic collection of pieces for all purse strings," said Oliver Miller, from Bishop & Miller Auctioneers.
"We get bin bags of stuff and we can confirm stains have been spotted, but that's the bizarre thing, you want the stains because it means he might have worn the items, " Mr Miller said.
This will be the fourth auction Sheeran has supported in aid of the charity, which supports people with life-limiting illnesses in Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.
The previous events have generated hundreds of thousands of pounds with bids be made from around the world.
With items expected to reach anywhere between £25 to more than £1,000, the auction is predicted to generate at least £10,000.
Judie Newman is the chief executive at St Elizabeth Hospice, for which Sheeran's mother used to make bracelets that were sold in the charity's Framlingham shop.
"Ed could have chosen any international or national charity, so we are so honoured and thrilled he chose a local charity that he has had a connection with for years," she said.
"Everyone will find something in this auction that they will love to have - it's a wonderful mix.
"We need to raise over £12m every year to run the hospice and we have to raise 70% of that ourselves through the community, so an event like this an absolutely wonderful opportunity."
The online auction officially launched on Saturday, with the charity giving fans the chance to look and touch the lots at its Martlesham Retail Centre, in Suffolk.
The event attracted more than 600 people, which is nearly double its normal footfall for a Saturday.
Keri-Ann Plaskett, whose parents were given "a really good quality of life" by the hospice before their deaths, attended the event with her children.
She told the BBC: "I think it is really kind of Ed and when he has done it before it has raised lots of money.
"I brought my children to see the items and I told them it would be cheaper than going to his concert at Portman Road.
"You wouldn't be able to see or touch his clothes otherwise, so I thought it was nice for them - it's a treat."

Port Ellen's Oldest Scotch Whisky Could Fetch $400,000 At Auction

The Port Ellen Prism decanter, designed by artist Wilfried Grootens, captures swirling layers of smoke in glass to reflect the whisky's depth and character. Diageo We are still waiting patiently for the new whisky from the Port Ellen Distillery, but until then they are keeping us enthralled with some exceptional releases from the depths of the Port Ellen warehouses. The latest edition is the Port Ellen Prism, estimated at $190,000 to $400,000 (£150,000 to £300,000), and is the oldest whisky released by the distillery. It has been created especially for the Distiller's One of One Auction with Sotheby's. Proceeds from the auction will go to the charity Youth Action Fund, which supports disadvantaged young people in Scotland. Port Ellen Prism is a 46 year old whisky that was distilled in 1978 and just one 1.5litre decanter has been created. This exceptional whisky will be part of the third Distiller's One of One auction, which is known for presenting some incredible whiskies, all of which are limited editions of just one. For this release Port Ellen has worked with award-winning artist Wilfried Grootens. 'With delicate brush strokes I paint or draw on single panes that, layered, trimmed and polished, seemingly float in the glass creating three dimensional shapes, visualising the smoke within and exploring its depth of flavour,' Grootens explained in the official press release. The effect is a striking visual representation of smoke that, like its inspiration, shifts as you observe it. The press release explains that the intention was to create a 'visual representation of the multi-layered depth of character.' Prism follows Port Ellen Gemini, another exceptionally designed, premium release from the reborn distillery. With Prism I feel that Diageo's intentions with Port Ellen are becoming more clearly defined. We haven't seen any regular releases from Port Ellen since the annual releases were discontinued but what we have seen have been uniformly high-end, premium releases with impeccable design and story-telling. From the Atlas of Smoke to the limited distillery tours/experiences, everything around the new Port Ellen feels pitched toward the luxury consumer. According to the official press release we have another Port Ellen release to look forward to later this year, and I am honestly excited to see it. Bidding for the Distiller's One of One auction opens September 15th online, but the main event will be the live auction at Hopetoun House, near Edinburgh on Friday October 10th. As well as the Port Ellen Prism collectors of rare whisky will be able to bid on an exceptional selection of one off whiskies from the likes of Laphroaig to Old Pulteney.

Man who ran 14 marathons in 14 days raises thousands for new born baby charity

A Buckinghamshire man has raised much-needed funds for Stoke Mandeville Hospital by running 14 marathons in 14 days. Andrew Springford, who lives in Downley, decided to put on his running boots on August 4 this year, and trekked to the Aylesbury-based hospital every day for two consecutive weeks. This is in aid of BURPS – Baby Unit, Relatives & Parent Support charity. Andrew has been running since 2015 (Image: Harriet Springford) Explaining why he decided to embark on this running adventure, he said: 'My wife Hattie and I welcomed Pip into the world five weeks earlier than expected. 'We were greatly supported by the resources provided by BURPS at the time. 'Yours truly even christened a new sofa bed when we got to spend a few nights rooming in with Pip before we brought her home. 'Three years later, we welcomed our second little girl, Penny, at the expected time, but she still had to spend a brief stint in the NICU [Neonatal Intensive Care Unit], for monitoring of a potential breathing issue. 'My daily journey will be to mark each day the girls had to spend at Stoke Mandeville - 13 days for Pip, and one for Penny. 'But this time, the journeys will not be with the luxury of a car, but by relentless concrete pounding.' During his charity event, he managed to run just under 400 miles (Image: Harriet Springford) Incredibly, Andrew set a goal of £2,500, but this was shattered during the course of his daily runs, as he managed to rack in £4,153 and counting. The money raised from his exploits will go towards getting state-of-the-art equipment for the unit, help fund improvements to facilities for families whilst in the unit, and help the charity to provide information, comfort items and other support to families. Over £4,000 has been raised for the charity (Image: Harriet Springford) Overall, his daily run of 28 miles per day (14 to Aylesbury and 14 to Downley), saw the father-of-two run an incredible 392 miles during those two weeks. A Movie Car Museum Is Moving—And It's Selling Off Some Amazing Vehicles

A Colorado movie car museum is auctioning off more than 60 vehicles from its collection as the owner seeks to build a new location. That means you have the chance to purchase a range of cool cars from Hollywood history, with most items offered at no reserve. The collection for sale includes a range of vehicles, from screen-used cars like the Flintstones' Rubble Racer to a recreation of the Sheep Dog van from Dumb and Dumber . You can also buy the Ecto-1 from the 2016 Ghostbusters film, one of four 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood hearses built for the film, the 1974 Ford Gran Torino from the 2004 Starsky and Hutch remake, several Fast and Furious cars, and more. As The Drive notes, the museum is also auctioning around 400 other items, including movie memorabilia, vintage signs, gas pumps, and other bits of automotive culture and history. You'll find a replica British telephone booth, an old dental chair, and a screen-used electric chair from American Horror Story: Asylum. Rodz and Bodz began operating in 2017, founded by Zack Loffert, as a prop rental business that rents vehicles out for weddings, entertainment, and more. Over the years, he added enough cars to his collection to open a museum. While the museum will close ahead of the location's planned redevelopment, Rodz and Bodz will continue to operate its rental business. 6 Source: Kraft Auctions Before closing on August 3, the museum had over 80 cars on display out of a collection of more than 180. The new location will have a 'immersive museum experience," Loffert told the Englewood Herald . "When you walk in, you're essentially walking into movie sets. It'll literally feel like you're in Hollywood." The auction begins on Friday, and there are two listings available over two days that you can view here and here .
