Happy Raksha Bandhan 2025: 50+ Rakhi wishes, WhatsApp messages, and quotes to share with your brother or sister

Raksha Bandhan 2025: The Raksha Bandhan festival, also known as Rakhi, is celebrated across India. This year it will be celebrated on 9 August 2025. The joyful festival celebrates the bond between sisters and brothers. On this occasion, a sister ties a string bracelet or amulet, usually made from red or yellow thread, called a Rakhi, on the right wrist of her brother, and the siblings exchange sweets and wishes. The Rakhi symbolises the bond (bandhana) of mutual protection (raksha) between brothers and sisters, with a particular emphasis on the brother's role in protecting the sister. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival takes place on the full-moon day (purnima) of the month of Shravana, which usually occurs in August in the Gregorian calendar. The practice of tying protective threads has a long history. The ancient Atharvaveda mentions tying the pratisara, a protective thread used in rituals. Demand for fancy rakhis soars, markets abuzz with festive spirit

Ranchi: As Raksha Bandhan approaches, Ranchi markets are brimming with energy and colour, with a remarkable surge in the demand for designer rakhis and curated gift hampers. From street stalls to premium showrooms, retailers are witnessing enthusiastic spending despite the rising prices. Traditional thread rakhis priced between Rs 10 and Rs 30 are popular, but this year's highlight is the fancy rakhis, which are cartoon-themed, LED-lit, beaded, and even satin-tied. Prices for these items range from Rs 30 to Rs 60. Bracelets and 'lumbas' paired with rakhis are also trending, with the price going up to Rs 250 depending on the design. For buyers looking for something exclusive, silver and gold rakhis are making a bold comeback. Ankit, a jewellery shop manager, said, "Our silver rakhi collection starts at Rs 800 and goes up to Rs 1,000. People are increasingly choosing silver as a keepsake." At another premium jewellery shop in Lalpur, the festive rush has already cleared the shelves. "In the last 10 days, I sold more than 30 silver rakhis — they're elegant and meaningful," said Deepak Lal, the store's sales executive. Vivek Kumar of another jewellery store shared that both gold and silver rakhis were attracting customers. "We have gold rakhis starting from Rs 7,000 and silver ones from Rs 800. This year, even siblings are pooling in to buy a single, lasting gift," he added. Alongside the rakhi rush, gifting trends in Ranchi have also taken a creative turn this year, with utility and aesthetics blending in festive offerings. Curated hampers are no longer limited to sweets or chocolates as they now include a mix of artisanal products, healthy snacks, grooming kits and personalised items. Many buyers are opting for theme-based hampers such as 'Grooming Essentials for Bhai' or 'Self-Care for Sister' that come packed in eco-friendly boxes or handcrafted baskets. These gifts often include herbal teas, organic skincare products, scented candles, protein bars and even pocket notebooks, reflecting a thoughtful and practical approach. Megha Agarwal, a shop owner, said their bestsellers this season include dry fruit platters in intricate packaging, mini nutrition hampers for kids, and festive snack boxes with baked items and no-refined-sugar treats. Chocolate bouquets made with assorted candies, premium bars, or even sugar-free options are also a major hit this year, especially among younger siblings. "People want to gift things that feel premium and mindful. We've also customised hampers with name tags and messages," she added.
