Adair County: Convicted felon is charged with possession of drugs, gun

Apr. 30—Melissa M. Vazques, 29, of Council Bluffs, was taken into custody 8:46 a.m. April 20, in Adair on an Adair County warrant for the charge of contempt — violation of no contact/protective order.
According to an Adair Police report, Vazques sent text messages to the other party in a no contact order that were not directly related to any of the exceptions for contact that the order allows.
Vazquez was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from on her own recognizance on a promise to appear and then to the custody of Polk County for pending charges there.

Sherrece P. Kilgore, 40, of Bridgewater, was taken into custody 10:30 a.m. April 21, in Dallas County on an Adair County warrant for the charge of violation of probation.
According to an Iowa Department of Correctional Services report, Kilgore was convicted of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, sentenced March 7, 2022, and granted a deferred judgement with three years probation.
Kilgore violated the terms of her probation on Feb. 19 when she was charged in Cass County with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense, driving while suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also charged April 20 by Waukee Police Department for providing false identification information.
Kilgore was directed by her probation officer to enroll in a payment plan, provide proof of enrollment and to make consistent payments on court ordered financial obligations. Kilgore failed to provide proof of enrollment and her payments were sporadic throughout probation, with the last payment being made in January.
Kilgore was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after pleading guilty and serving her seven day sentence.

Shaun M. Cleary, 45, of Yorkville, Illinois, was taken into custody 8:41 p.m. April 21, at mile marker 76 of Interstate 80, on the charges of dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon and possession of a controlled substance — marijuana, first offense.
According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 6:31 p.m. a 2021 Honda Accord was stopped for illegal window tint. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Cleary and two passengers, including Cleary's wife. Troopers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the Honda.
When asked about the odor, Cleary admitted to having marijuana in the car and said it was for personal use. Cleary also stated there was a firearm in the car, which belonged to his wife who legally could possess a firearm. Cleary is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.
A probable cause search of the Honda was conducted. A large quantity of marijuana and products containing marijuana were found throughout the vehicle. In the trunk of the Honda, a Springfield Armory 9mm handgun was found in a backpack containing Cleary's personal property. Cleary later admitted he and his wife share the backpack, and he had prior knowledge of the handgun being in the backpack.
Clearly was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $5,000 cash or surety bond.
