2026 Recruit says UNC basketball program amongst five schools with most interest
The North Carolina Tar Heels continue making waves on the basketball recruiting trail this offseason, as top class of 2026 prospects are either setting visits – or including UNC amongst their final schools.
North Carolina native Cole Cloer, who'll play his final season of high school basketball at IMG Academy, recently narrowed down his recruiting to include UNC in his final eight. Point guard Deron Rippey Jr., a Top-20 recruit, will visit Chapel Hill over Labor Day weekend.
According to Tar Heel Times, North Carolina has 17 outstanding offers in its 2026 class. One of those 17 recruits, who would fill a massive need to UNC during the 2026-2027 college basketball season, recently gave some insight into his recruiting process.
Cameron Holmes, a 5-star small forward from Millennium High School in Goodyear, Ariz., told 247Sports that North Carolina is amongst the top five schools recruiting him the hardest. Joining the Tar Heels on this list are Arizona, Gonzaga, Oregon and Texas.
Holmes previously received an offer from UNC in September 2024.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Holmes is the class of 2026's 16th-ranked recruit nationally, fifth-ranked small forward, and third-ranked player from Arizona.
With Luka Bogavac the only official wing listed on the Tar Heels' roster, there's another major future need at this position in Chapel Hill. Bogavac is 21, which is much older than the typical college freshman, but there are years of international pro experience under Bogavac's belt.
Holmes is one of seven class of 2026 small forwards to hold a UNC offer. The others are Cloer, Qayden Samuels, Anthony Thompson, Tajh Ariza, Tyran Stokes and Bryson Howard.

While his half-season rental status will cap Arizona's potential return, the number of interested teams could create a bidding war. He has never played first base during his major league career. The expectation is that Suárez will be traded by the July 31 deadline, with the Yankees and Tigers now viewed as favorites to land him. Phoenix Suns add Valley Suns head coach to Jordan Ott's coaching staff
First-year Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott will have John Little on his staff as an assistant coach, league sources have informed The Arizona Republic. Little served as head coach of their G League team, the Valley Suns, during their inaugural season in 2024-25. The Valley Suns reached the 2025 G League playoffs under Little and advanced to the conference semifinals before losing to the eventual G League champion Stockton Kings. Stockton is the Sacramento Kings' G League team. Little has been in Las Vegas working as an assistant for the Suns' summer league team. Phoenix plays its final summer league game Saturday, July 19, against the Portland Trail Blazers at Cox Pavilion (6:30 p.m., NBA TV). The Suns have Jesse Mermuys, DeMarre Carroll, Brian Randle, Chaisson Allen and Little on Ott's coaching staff with Mateen Cleaves serving as a player development coach. Carroll has been the team's summer league head coach with Allen and Little on his staff. Ott, Randle and Mermuys have been in attendance, watching the games courtside. A 2006 Northern Iowa graduate, Little played overseas for eight years as a guard. He returned to Northern Iowa and worked as a video coordinator for two years (2017-19). He was on the Wisconsin Herd's coaching staff for four seasons (2019-23). The Herd are the Milwaukee Bucks' G League team. Little was an assistant there under Allen from 2021-23. Little then joined the Maine Celtics as an assistant for one season (2023-24), helping the Boston Celtics' G League team earn the No. 2 seed and reach the 2024 G League finals. Texas A&M HC Mike Elko is 'blessed' to have four talented running backs
Texas A&M's 2025 running back room will be headlined by the return of senior back Le'Veon Moss, who, outside of dealing with a minor legal brushup this summer, is reportedly "100%" healthy after sustaining his season-ending lower body injury halfway through the 2024 season. However, Moss will be aided by one of the deepest running back rotations in the country with the return of Reuben Owens, Amari Daniels, and EJ Smith. During Thursday's SEC media days appearance, head coach Mike Elko was asked about his 2025 running back room, first praising Le'Veon Moss's 2024 performance before his injury, where he led the SEC in rushing with 765 yards, ten touchdowns, and 6.3 yards per carry. Moss's injury significantly altered A&M's offense, placing additional pressure on starting quarterback Marcel Reed to produce through the air, which was challenging given the team's limited reliable receiving options. It's also important to note that sophomore RB Reuben Owens was also lost for the season, and despite his brief return against Texas and USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, the former five-star was not himself after tearing his ACL during fall practice. How OC Collin Klein will use Owens, who could become a hybrid receiver in certain packages, will determine just how successful the Aggie rushing attack will be. "There's a lot of quality in that group. It starts with Le'Veon Moss, who was on his way to being the leading rusher in the conference and was one of the leading rushers in the nation when he got injured." "We're blessed with four really talented backs, and you need them because, in this conference, they come and go really fast." If Moss can pick up where he left off, Texas A&M is in great shape, while Owens is determined to show the nation that he remains an elite back with first-round NFL draft potential. However, Elko also noted EJ Smith is healthy and back to form, which is good news for those who remember his elite play and versatility during the bulk of his career at Stanford.
