Theegala misses cut at Portrush, but happy to be back from injury

Portrush (N Ireland), Jul 19 (PTI) Golfer Sahith Theegala may have missed the cut at the British Open but he is happy to be back in action after a two-month layoff due to injuries.
Theegala (75-74), who made an early exit at Royal Portrush, had suffered injuries earlier this year that saw him play indifferently and miss a few cuts.
He withdrew from the Truist Championship and took a two-month rest to allow his body to recover.
'It felt good playing once again. Getting healthy after the 'oblique' pain and the neck injury was the top priority. After a good 2024, there were high (hopes), but injuries were frustrating," said Theegala, on a day when Indo-British golfer Aaron Rai (69-72) and fellow Indian-American Akshay Bhatia (73-68) made the cut in T-26th place.
For Rai, it was a fall from T-10 in the first round, while Bhatia, who had a great start in the second round with three starting birdies, shot 68 despite a series of late bogeys.
Despite that, Bhatia moved up from T-70 to T-26 for his maiden cut at the Open.
Rai, who has made all four cuts this year, made his seventh Major cut in a row. He had a best of T-19 in 2021, and interestingly his best at the US Open is also T-19 in 2024.
Theegala said he will play a lot of events in the Fall season to get his form back.
He also hopes to tee up at Tiger Woods' event, the Hero World Challenge.
'I have an exemption into next year because of making the Tour Championship, but I also hope to get back my rhythm and see if I can get to some early Signature events. A few good results or even a win, maybe," he said.
He also hoped that Akshay Bhatia and Aaron Rai do well over the weekend at Portrush. PTI Cor AM AM AM

Trouble mounts for Team India as Akash Deep, Arshdeep injured ahead of fourth Test; Anshul Kamboj added to squad
New Delhi [India], July 20 (ANI): India's build-up to the crucial fourth Test against England at Old Trafford has been dented by injuries to two of their seamers, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh. With both bowlers likely to miss the Manchester Test starting July 23, the selectors have drafted in Haryana's promising fast bowler Anshul Kamboj as cover for the final two matches of the five-Test series, as per ESPNcricinfo. Arshdeep, who is yet to make his Test debut, hurt his bowling hand during a training session in Beckenham on Thursday. He was seen having his hand taped after what looked like a follow-through injury. Earlier in the session, the left-arm quick said, "I'll bowl a lot today, cover all the work of a week, and then go and shop," as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. Later, he walked off, clearly in discomfort. It's unclear whether the injury required stitches. Meanwhile, Akash Deep is nursing a groin niggle, compounding India's concerns. The right-arm seamer was instrumental in India squaring the series in Birmingham with a 10-wicket match haul. However, in the Lord's Test, he looked off-colour, managing just one wicket and even walking off on Day 4 for treatment, though the exact nature of that issue wasn't confirmed then. India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate acknowledged Arshdeep's injury would affect team planning, and the latest setback with Akash Deep only adds to the headache. With the series on the line and England leading 2-1, all eyes now turn to Jasprit Bumrah's availability. Ten Doeschate had earlier hinted that India would be "leaning towards" playing Bumrah in Manchester, though that would depend on factors like the weather and overall bowling fitness. Sulakshan Kulkarni Named Deputy Head Coach Of Oman Men's Cricket Team

Former Mumbai wicketkeeper Sulakshan Kulkarni has been appointed as the deputy head coach of the Oman men's national cricket team.
