Scarlett Johansson CRIED After Reading This Script: 'It Almost Never Happens'

Scarlett Johansson is stepping behind the camera as she takes on the role of director for the upcoming drama.
Scarlett Johansson was moved to tears by the script for 'Eleanor The Great'. The 40-year-old actress is stepping behind the camera as she takes on the role of director for the upcoming drama – which follows a year-old Floridian woman (June Squibb ) as she forms an unlikely friendship with a 19-year-old student (Erin Kellyman) in New York City – and could see a 'great possibility" in the emotional screenplay that reminded her of films made in decades gone by.
She told Deadline: 'When I read it, I cried, and that almost never happens. 'Sometimes you'll read a script that's really moving. When I read 'Jojo Rabbit', I cried. Sometimes a script will move you like that, which is extraordinary.
'I could see there was a great possibility in it," she continues. 'I thought, 'Oh, actually, I think I could tell this story.' It reminded me so much of independent film from the mid to late '90s. I was a kid of the '90s. I was working in independent film at that time, and I watched a lot of movies in that period of time that were throughout the '90s into the early aughts, like 'Crossing Delancey' and movies like that I loved as a kid. Richard LaGravenese made a great movie called Living Out Loud, and then certain Woody Allen movies from that period of time, too, that are films that I gravitate toward as just a fan."
The 'Black Widow' star then recalled that she had been put on such a tight schedule to get the film made but felt 'so lucky" when two major production compies got involved.
She said: 'I got the script in August, and I was like, 'We have to make it this winter.' That was very stressful, like crazy, crazy stressful. It fell apart a thousand different times. 'I don't want to say I'm a film snob, but I love Sony Pictures Classics. The idea of working with TriStar was amazing, it was perfect."
'I couldn't have asked for better partners than Sony Pictures Classics and TriStar. Nicole Brown, our executive at TriStar, is incredible, a dream executive. I was lucky."

‘Very Alive And Twinkly': Scarlett Johansson On Jurassic World Co-Star Jonathan Bailey

Last Updated: Scarlett Johansson will soon be seen in Jurassic World Rebirth, alongside Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali. Scarlett Johansson has nothing but praise for her Jurassic World Rebirth co-star Jonathan Bailey. She credited him for providing the energy she needed on set during the shoot. In a recent interview, Bailey spoke about his upcoming projects, including the much-anticipated Jurassic World Rebirth. Alongside discussing his experience working in the iconic franchise, he hinted at the possibility of a reunion with Jeff Goldblum's Dr Ian Malcolm. He also revealed what Scarlett Johansson thought of working with him. Speaking to British GQ, Bailey said Johansson found him 'very alive" on set. 'He's so twinkly. He's very alive in the moment. I think sometimes when you say that somebody has a positive outlook, it can seem to diminish the fact that they're also deep, because it can appear superficial. But he's a deep thinker and also incredibly compassionate," she was quoted as saying. Talking about his role in the franchise, Bailey added, 'There's a lot to be in awe of. The moment you wake up and you're like, 'Ugh,' I think you have to get a big ol' slap on the old botty bott bott." He also shared his hopes about a future crossover with Jeff Goldblum's character. 'We'll see how it goes, but there might be a few films down the line where I and he can appear in Jurassic together. Dr Ian Malcolm and Dr Henry Loomis on a night out," he joked. Scarlett Johansson stars as covert operations expert Zora Bennett, while Jonathan Bailey plays Dr Henry Loomis, a palaeontologist. Two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali also joins the cast as Duncan Kincaid. The latest trailer was recently released, offering a glimpse of the chaos that follows when humans attempt to play god with dinosaurs. Set on an island, the film shows a battle for survival against 'the worst of the worst dinosaurs." Jurassic World Rebirth is set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion. A team of dinosaur experts leads the mission. According to the official synopsis: 'Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet's ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea, and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind." Jurassic World Rebirth hits cinemas on 4 July 2025. First Published:

Ballet Dramedy Etoile Will No Longer Have A Second Season

Last Updated: As per reports, the decision to cancel the second season comes in the wake of performance vs cost disputes. In disappointing news for Etoile fans, Prime Video has confirmed that the ballet dramedy will not be returning for a second season. Created by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel duo Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, the show had initially been granted a two-season commitment. However, despite debuting in late April to positive reviews from both critics and viewers, the series has now been shelved. At the time, all eight episodes were dropped simultaneously on Prime Video. It is worth mentioning that in the Palladinos' follow-up to the critical and commercial hit, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, they received an initial order for two seasons in 2023. While most multi-season orders result in multiple runs, there have also been exceptions, as there is still an evaluation process after series receive approval with contingencies built in. According to a Deadline report, the decision came largely due to disputes over 'performance versus cost." On the other hand, it could also be attributed to the recent internal restructuring at Amazon with the former studio head's exit and Mike Hopkins taking over. What Is Etoile About? Said to be a passion project for Sherman-Palladino, Etoile is a story of dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies in New York and Paris. They will be seen embarking on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions by swapping their most talented stars. The show came as a deterrent for many casual viewers beyond their loyal fan base who have been following her from the iconic Gilmore Girls to Bunheads and the Emmy-winning Mrs Maisel. While the show is currently not returning for a second season, fans can stream the first part on Prime Video. First Published:

Étoile Cancelled After Season 1 at Prime Video Despite 2-Part Deal, Details Inside

Fans hoping for an encore of Étoile will be disappointed — Prime Video has decided not to move forward with a second season of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino's ballet-centered dramedy, Deadline reports. The decision comes despite the show's original two-season order and positive critical reception. Originally greenlit in 2023 with a rare two-season commitment, Étoile followed the success of Sherman-Palladino's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. However, like all multi-season deals at the streamer, renewal beyond the first season required a fresh green light — which ultimately wasn't granted. Sources say the cancellation was driven by a performance-versus-cost analysis rather than internal studio leadership changes. Though Étoile boasted an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score, it failed to crack Nielsen's Top 10 and quickly fell off Prime Video's own trending charts after a brief stint behind Reacher. The series, a passion project for Sherman-Palladino, was an ambitious and costly production, filmed in both New York and Paris with elaborate sets and dance sequences. It depicted two ballet companies uniting to save their legacies — a concept that may have struggled to attract casual viewers outside the creator's loyal fanbase. Despite its artistry and timely message about supporting the performing arts post-pandemic, Étoile didn't generate the social buzz or universal acclaim of Maisel. Still, its cancellation leaves multiple storylines unresolved, including a cliffhanger romance teased between characters Jack (Luke Kirby) and Cheyenne (Lou de Laâge). The ensemble cast included Kirby, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Gideon Glick, David Alvarez, Ivan du Pontavice, and several Gilmore Girls and Maisel alums. The series was produced by Amazon MGM Studios with Sherman-Palladino, Palladino, and Dhana Rivera Gilbert as executive producers. While Étoile may have taken its final bow, its impact on the conversation around the future of performing arts endures. For now, fans can savor its singular season — a love letter to ballet and creativity — and hope the story someday returns to the stage.
