Devotees offer sarees and prayers at Kanaka Durga Temple during Ashada Saare festival

Vijayawada: A sea of devotees thronged the Sri Kanaka Durga Temple atop Indrakeeladri on Sunday as part of the annual Ashada Saare offering. Thousands of women, in colourful groups and processions, reached the temple with traditional offerings — silk sarees, bangles, flowers, fruits, and pongal — symbolically treating Goddess Kanaka Durga as their daughter.
The temple premises were packed from early morning, and special arrangements were made to handle the heavy influx of devotees. Temple authorities cancelled VIP and Special Entry Darshans, ensuring only Lagu Darshan (fast-track darshan) was available for the public. Around eight special counters were set up across various locations to collect the saree offerings from devotees.
Executive officer (EO) Seena Nayak personally oversaw arrangements, managing queues and directing volunteers across key areas.
The EO also inspected the offerings of vegetables and fruits made by devotees ahead of the upcoming Shakambari festival, scheduled from July 8 to 10. He encouraged devotees to donate fresh produce for the decoration of the deity during the three-day celebration.
To ensure smooth flow, the temple administration deployed staff along the lift routes, queue lines, and Ghat Road, which witnessed massive footfall. EO Nayak confirmed that protocol darshans were suspended from 11:30 a.m.

A Full-Scale Emergency Mock Drill was successfully conducted at Pune Airport on Saturday in alignment with the Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP) as per the guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The exercise was aimed at evaluating the preparedness, response coordination, and operational efficiency of all stakeholders in handling a real-time aviation emergency scenario. The simulated situation involved detection of smoke in the cockpit of a dummy incoming aircraft. Upon receipt of this information, the Airport Emergency Plan was immediately activated, and alerts were disseminated to all relevant stakeholders. Multiple emergency centres were established swiftly to manage the incident, including the Emergency Control Centre (ECC), Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Emergency Control Room (ECR), Survivors Reception Centre (SRC), Crew Reception Centre (CRC), Friends and Relatives Reception Centre (FRRC), Reunion Area (RA), Rendezvous Point (RP), and a dedicated Media Centre. The overall response was prompt, organized, and effective, reflecting the high level of preparedness and synergy among all involved agencies. During the post-drill debriefing, observations and recommendations were shared by independent evaluators with the participating teams, highlighting both strengths and areas for improvement. The Airport Director appreciated the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders.

Siddhant Chaturvedi: Siddhant, a former Under-13 state champion, won team gold at Western Asian 23-24. This year, representing St Anselm's School, Mansarover, he won CBSE West Zone Individual Board Prize and team silver to represent CBSE West Zone in the Under-17 age category. He won state in his age category and then stood in the prize list of rating category at Delhi GM. Siddhant won gold medal in District RBSE and then bronze in the state. G. Kiyana Parihar: One more Under-9 girl who has won bronze in World and Asian events. H.
