While the opening wasn't huge, Metro... In Dino is captivating audiences with its heartfelt storytelling, emotional narrative, stellar ensemble cast and soul-stirring music.
Anurag Basu's romantic drama Metro… In Dino continues to resonate with moviegoers, gradually building momentum at the box office. Despite a modest opening, the film has found its audience, earning Rs 41.40 crore in 12 days, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. While the opening wasn't huge, the film captivated audiences with its heartfelt storytelling, emotional narrative, stellar ensemble cast and soul-stirring music.
The film was released on July 4 with collections of Rs 3.5 crore on day one. Collections grew slightly, adding Rs 6 crore on its second day. Though the weekend saw only a slow rise, the film closed its first week with Rs 26.85 crore. In its second week, however, Metro… In Dino experienced a significant drop in collections, earning approximately Rs 1.65 crore on July 15.
Still, the film's urban, slice-of-life storytelling and emotional depth have kept the theatres awash with audiences, leading to an average Hindi occupancy of 26.15 per cent on Tuesday. While morning shows drew 11.06 per cent, viewership gradually improved throughout the day, peaking with 37.79 per cent occupancy for night shows.
Now let's talk about its budget. Though early reports speculated a high production budget of Rs 85 crore, sources close to the project have clarified that the film was made on a modest budget of Rs 47 crore. 'Metro… In Dino was made on a fairly small scale with Rs 40 crore for production and Rs 7 crore for marketing and promotion, contrary to what many might assume," a source revealed, adding that the film was never about scale but substance.
Metro… In Dino is a modern-day anthology exploring themes of love, loss and resilience across four bustling Indian metros—Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. A spiritual successor to the 2007 hit Life in a… Metro, the film shows how couples navigate through their relationships, resilience and rediscovering love amidst the chaos of urban life.
The ensemble cast boasts stellar performances by Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Neena Gupta, and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
The film's music, composed by Pritam in collaboration with Basu, has also struck a chord with audiences. Songs like Zaamana Lage, Qayde Se and Aur Mohabbat Kitni Karoon have become chartbusters, adding to the urban tales.
Moreover, the film is all set to expand its reach digitally and connect with a wider audience globally. The makers have already secured the OTT rights of Netflix, ensuring the film's emotional storytelling reaches viewers beyond the theatrical window.
