PMX gets ‘grilled-to-perfection' after claiming his overseas travel is to represent Malaysia, ain't for leisure

Focus Malaysia5 days ago
IN HIS quest to defuse public rage over his rampant travel abroad which culminated in billions of unverified 'potential investments' Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has found himself being thrown deeper into the fire.
Brickbats – some funny, others derogatory – were seemingly hurled at him from all corners in these two related NST Online Facebook posts aptly headlined 'Anwar: I Travel Abroad to Represent Malaysia, Not for Leisure'.
Speaking about his recent 24-hour journey from Brazil at the launch of the Madani Rakyat Terengganu 2025 Programme in Kuala Terengganu yesterday (July 13), PMX claimed that he often faces gruelling schedules but remains committed to his duties.
'You think I enjoy flying abroad? I represent Malaysia whenever I travel — it's not for leisure,' he replied to the amusement of learned and very much informed Malaysians who have seemingly lost faith in him.
Instead of silencing his critics, little did PMX realise that 'silence is golden' would be the best policy for someone who is now living in a glass house.
One stinging comment would be that his only son (from six children) Mohammad Ihsan Anwar being spotted during his recent three-nation tour, particularly during his official trip to Rome.
'In couple of his trips, there were claims that his son tag along,' one witty commenter hit out. 'Can he (PMX) explain on what capacity? If it's personal, can he show the supporting payments, it. air ticket, hotels, meals, etc?
The commenter who is also a law practitioner further quantified that working 24×7 'doesn't make PMX a great guy or someone that we should appreciate'.
Elaborating on the participation of PMX's son on his overseas trips, former Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communication deputy director Datuk Eric See-To had on July 3 exposed that third child of PMX had also been spotted in PROTON's visit to Kazakhstan and even met with the country's PM.
'Before this, his face had appeared in several official visits of PMX or programmes involving Malaysian government delegations,' the opposition-slant (pro-Datuk Seri Najib Razak) influencer who also goes by the pseudonym Lim Sian See penned on his FB page.
'So, it's time for PMX to explain publicly what exactly is his son's official position? Does he work with PMX? Or with MITI (Investment, Trade ad Industry Ministry)? Or where?
'If PMX can twice announced the appointment of his daughter, Nurul Izzah, as an advisor to the PM and then advisor to Finance Minister (ie himself), why not be transparent about his son as well?'
By the way, some teasing comments on PMX defending his overseas travels to rid Monday blues: – July 14, 2025

Urgent need to boost SME competitiveness and diversify trade

AS MCA Vice President and Member of Parliament for Tanjung Piai, I urge the government to address the serious economic challenges our country is facing, particularly the potential ripple effects of the United States imposing high retaliatory tariffs on Malaysian exports. According to Dr Tamara, a Southeast Asia economist at Bloomberg, if the "triple whammy" effect of US tariffs persists, Malaysia's economic growth in 2025 could fall below 4%. Cancel anytime. Ad-free. Border Agency identifies data integration issue as cause of autogate systems disruption

PETALING JAYA: The disruption to the autogate system, which affected several main entry points into the country, was caused by a data integration issue, says the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS). The agency, in a statement on Saturday (July 19), said that the technical issue had impacted autogate systems across the main entry points since Friday (July 18). "This disruption has caused lines and congestion along several key locations, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal One and Two; the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (BSI CIQ) and the Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar in Johor. Preliminary investigations revealed that the issue originated from a disruption in data integration, causing delays in cross-checking on the MyIMMS system. Consequently, the autogate systems used by foreigners are currently unavailable. The agency added that steps to mitigate the issue have been taken, including the activation of all manual counters, with additional manpower being deployed to better manage the flow of visitors. It also said that the agency and the Immigration Department are working closely to investigate the root cause of the issue and to find a solution "as soon as possible," it said.

All manual counters opened, additional staff deployed to address autogate glitch

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) has taken immediate measures to address the congestion at the country's main entry points since yesterday. All manual counters have been fully activated, and additional personnel have been deployed to manage the flow of visitors and control the queues as efficiently as possible, the agency said in a statement today. This follows a technical disruption affecting the autogate system used by foreign visitors at the country's main entry points, which has led to congestion and long queues at several key locations, including Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminals 1 and 2, as well as the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complexes at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar (KSAB) in Johor. The agency said it was working closely with the Immigration Department to identify the root cause of the problem and to find a solution as quickly as possible. Preliminary investigations indicate that the issue stems from a data integration failure, which has slowed down the cross-verification process in the MyIMMS system. As a result, the autogate system for foreign visitors is currently non-operational. The agency said the autogate system for Malaysian passport holders remains unaffected and is operating as usual.
