'The Odyssey' tickets go on sale a year before release: Where to see it in 70mm IMAX

USA Today2 days ago
Christopher Nolan's next movie hasn't even finished filming yet, but you can already buy a ticket.
IMAX tickets for "The Odyssey," the highly anticipated new film from the Oscar-winning "Oppenheimer" director, went up for sale on Thursday, July 17 – exactly one year before it hits theaters.
It's highly unusual for movie tickets to be made available so far in advance. They are typically not sold until a few weeks before a film's release.
Like "Oppenheimer," Nolan's "The Odyssey" will be screening in 70mm, a type of high quality film that's bigger than the standard 35mm, in select locations across the country.
According to IMAX's website, 16 theaters in the United States are selling tickets for "The Odyssey" in IMAX 70mm, though a seat may be hard to come by. As of the morning of July 17, Fandango's website showed that many screenings were already sold out.
One year from 'The Odyssey': What we know so far about Christopher Nolan's next movie
Based on the epic poem by Homer, "The Odyssey" will be led by Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside a star-studded cast that includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron and more A-listers.
'Oppenheimer': Christopher Nolan's new movie about nukes is 'the stuff of cinematic drama'
The first trailer for the film debuted in front of screenings of "Jurassic World Rebirth" on July 2. But in keeping with Nolan's advocacy for the theatrical experience, the teaser has not been released online and can still only be watched in theaters. The footage is also playing before showings of "Superman."
For Nolan, "The Odyssey" will come after one of the biggest success stories of the director's career. His movie "Oppenheimer" grossed nearly $1 billion at the global box office in 2023, an unheard of haul for a talky drama, and became his first film to win the Academy Award for best picture. Nolan also won best director, and stars Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. won best actor and best supporting actor, respectively.
Nolan has also directed acclaimed blockbusters like "Inception" and the "Dark Knight" Batman trilogy.

Here's the Clip When Dean Cain's Superman Gets Busted for Being Illegal Alien

Dean Cain's showbiz career hasn't leapt over tall buildings in a single bound since the end of Lois & Clark, the Superman TV show that made him a star. These days, you're more likely to find him on Fox News or TMZ, sounding off on cultural and political issues. With the recent Superman movie in the news, Cain thrust himself back into the limelight, criticizing director James Gunn for saying that his Superman was an immigrant story. An immigrant? Not on Cain's watch. 'How woke is Hollywood going to make this character?' Cain wondered aloud to TMZ. While America has traditionally welcomed immigrants, 'there have to be limits, because we can't have everybody in the United States. We can't have everybody, society will fail.' 'I think that was a mistake by James Gunn to say it's an immigrant thing, and I think it's going to hurt the numbers on the movie,' Cain continued. 'I'm rooting for it to be a success, but I don't like that last political comment.' There were only three little problems with Cain's diatribe. 1 Cain Hadn't Seen the Movie 'Changing beloved characters I don't think is a great idea,' Cain griped. 'If you want to create a new character, go ahead and do that.' How much did Gunn change Superman? Cain would have a hard time saying, considering he spouted off before actually watching the movie. 2 Superman Was Boffo at the Box Office Cain warned that Gunn's comments about the Superman character would 'hurt the numbers.' Oops. Superman flew past Warner Bros.' estimates and took in $217 million in its opening weekend, the biggest start ever for the franchise. The opening was especially impressive during a time of superhero fatigue, with other DC and Marvel movies failing to live up to expectations. 'I'm incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days,' Gunn said while watching the cash pour in. 3 Cain's Superman Was Just As Woke The biggest laugh about Cain's dismay over Superman's immigrant status? That's this clip from Lois and Clark, with Cain's hero being accosted by a number of government officials. An agent from the IRS wants Superman's Social Security number. 'I don't have one,' Cain as Superman responded. That must be why the agency can't find his tax returns. Superman is a tax dodger! Then, a woman from Immigration and Naturalization gets in his grill, demanding to see his green card. Again, Superman doesn't have one. 'You are an alien, are you not?' That's just what Cain's Woke Superman is — and without a green card, he's an illegal alien at that. Get more Cracked directly to your inbox. "Arthur" TikTok Goes Viral After Trump's PBS Funding Cuts

Everyone's inner child is heartbroken after the Trump administration received approval to reportedly cut all federal funding for public broadcasting, leaving programs like PBS in limbo. PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger said the cuts "go against the will of the American people," in a written statement. "The Senate just approved a rescissions package that goes against the will of the American people, the vast majority of whom trust PBS and believe we provide excellent value to their communities. These cuts will significantly impact all of our stations, but will be especially devastating to smaller stations and those serving large rural areas. Many of our stations, which provide access to free, unique local programming and emergency alerts, will now be forced to make hard decisions in the weeks and months ahead. There is nothing more American than PBS. Despite today's setback, we are determined to keep fighting to preserve the essential services we provide to the American public," Kerger said. The PBS channel has been home to many popular educational children's TV shows, including the Emmy-winning animated series Arthur, a show about an 8-year-old aardvark who explores real-life issues through the lens of a child and promotes healthy problem-solving and social skills for young kids. Well, the official Arthur TikTok page recently posted a video in response to the news of budget cuts, with the caption: "PBS has been defunded. This isn't goodbye yet." In the clip, the character Sue from Arthur is seen writing in her journal. "I never wanna go through another fire. But I also never wanna lose this feeling. That each day is special; that my friends are the best friends in the world; and that if we stick together, we can make it through just about anything." The TikTok has received over 350,000 views in less than 24 hours, and thousands of comments have expressed their heartbreak over Trump's PBS cuts. "You guys raised multiple generations and that won't be forgotten ever," one person wrote. "I can't believe these vile politicians defunded you. Fuck them," another person wrote. "Trump is trying to defund education. They know education means they have less power and voter base. Don't let them win. Continue to educate yourself," another person wrote. Others shared what the show Arthur has meant to their lives. "This channel was my everything. I learned how to speak English watching PBS." "I came to the U.S. when I was 4. I went into school knowing 0 English thanks to PBS kids I learned English by the 3rd grade fluently. I'm now about to be in 12th." "from a foster child that had no structure or love growing up. thank you for helping raise me into who I am." One person even shared that "Arthur's Reading Race" helped them start reading as an autistic kid. And this teacher said that PBS reinforced the "ethics" taught to them at home and helped them as a student. According to @arthursPBS, donating to your local PBS station is one way to help. Elizabeth Tulloch Regrets Missing Krypto on Superman & Lois: ‘I Was So Bummed!' (Watch Interview)

With James Gunn's Superman flying into theaters this weekend, the world is being introduced to a new Clark Kent (David Corenswet), Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). And we'd be lying if we said we weren't getting a little nostalgic. After all, wasn't it just seven months ago that we watched this trio's story play out on the small screen via The CW's Superman & Lois? Heck, it was less than one month ago that TVLine gave the show a 'Best Series Finale' honor at our inaugural Best in Broadcast Awards. My, how time… flies. Fortunately, Elizabeth Tulloch (aka The CW's Lois) has partnered with Milk-Bone in support of its limited-edition Superman-themed dog biscuits — including hosting a dog-friendly screening of the new movie this week in Los Angeles — giving us one more opportunity to discuss all things Superman. And Lois, of course. For starters, Tulloch is excited to see Krypto, the Man of Steel's iconic four-legged friend, on the big screen for the first time in live-action form. The dog lover also admits that she's disappointed she didn't get to play with Krypto in the Superman & Lois series finale. (Clark did eventually get a dog by that name, but it wasn't until after — spoiler alert! — Lois passed away.) 'I was so bummed, I love dogs!' Tulloch tells TVLine in the video interview above, before segueing into an adorable story about this particular canine's performance in the finale. Let's just say it involves Tyler Hoechlin and a lot of slobbering. Hit PLAY on the video above to watch an excerpt of our interview with Tulloch, then drop a comment with your own thoughts below.
