Reports suggest that a $20 million transfer for Jhon Arias has been completed. The Colombian will move from Fluminense to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
On Thursday night Arias waved farewell to fans in his last home game as a Fluminense player, after the Rio de Janeiro team was defeated 2-0 by new league leader Cruzeiro.
Jhon Arias Has International Pedigree
Jhon Arias shone for Fluminense, who defeated Inter Milan on the road to the FIFA 2025 Club World Cup semi final. Arias was voted in the team of the tournament and scored a wonderful free-kick in the group stages. It was one for the highlight reel and turned heads worldwide, but as ever his all-round play was the most impressive, helping him to earn this lucrative move.
Arias was also crucial when Fluminense won its first ever Copa Libertadores title in 2023, playing 13 games and providing five goal contributions during that continental campaign.

Since debuting for Colombia on June 5th 2022, Jhon Arias has appeared 29 times for the national team and been a key component in a squad enjoying it's best run of form for many years.
Alongside the likes of Luis Díaz of Liverpool and Richard Ríos of Palmeiras, Arias has and Colombia have enjoyed a two-year cycle of great success. Colombia has defeated Brazil and Argentina recently as well as making it to extra-time against Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final.

Now Arias has helped his nation to the verge of FIFA 2026 World Cup qualification. Just one game away from glory, Colombia can return to the biggest stage after missing out on the 2022 World Cup, and on current form Arias will be one of the first names on the team sheet.
A Deserved Move To The Premier League
Arias is a gifted footballer who usually operates on the right for Fluminense or Colombia but is capable of playing on either flank or in the midfield. His domination of the basics and 'soccer IQ' means Arias is a very adaptable player who is both dangerous in attack and reliable in defence.
Arias reminds me of Gini Wijnaldum at Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Wijnaldum played more centrally but the ability that stands out the most is the same. The capacity to keep hold of the ball under almost any circumstance.

The Colombian can have three or four men around him and still manage to wriggle out with possession. Whether it's darting down the wing to create a chance, or getting his team out of a tight situation at the back. He is a cool head in tense situations and knows when to speed up an attack or slow down the play.
Arias has already played 35 games of club football this calendar year and twice been on international trips with Colombia. He hasn't had a break since January, and now has a Premier League preseason and 10 months of football to contest with.

It will be a big physical test for the winger. Especially when you consider that this run culminates in the FIFA 2026 World Cup which is likely to be the proudest moment of Arias' career. Although the player will surely be excited at what is to come.
He has been an incredible servant to Fluminense and really deserves this move. Despite being technically gifted Arias is also one of the hardest workers on the team. With and without the ball Arias appears to cover every blade of grass, and on many recent occasions he has held this Fluminense team on his back.
Hopefully a strong South American contingent in the Wolves' squad, including ex-Fluminense teammate André, can make Jhon Arias feel at home. It will be interesting to see how quickly the Colombian can find his feet in the Premier League and start making an impact.

Brighton's Evan Ferguson traveling to Italy ahead of Roma loan

Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson is flying to Italy ahead of completing his loan move to Roma. The Athletic reported on July 9 that Roma were working on a deal to sign Ferguson. Ferguson, 20, spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at West Ham United, but he was limited to just eight appearances and failed to score for the east London side. He scored just once for Brighton during the first half of the campaign and fell down the pecking order under Fabian Hurzeler, prompting a January loan move which reunited him with Graham Potter, the coach who gave him his senior debut for Brighton in February 2022 as a 17-year-old. Ferguson joined Brighton in 2021 from Irish side Bohemians. He registered eight goals and assists in 19 Premier League games during a breakout 2022-23 season, but he endured an injury-disrupted campaign the following term and did not score for nearly a year between November 2023 and October 2024. Previously valued at around £100million by Brighton, Ferguson is contracted to the club until 2029, having signed a long-term deal in November 2023 after interest from a number of clubs, including Manchester United. Advertisement Ferguson earned his national team debut for the Republic of Ireland in November 2022 against Norway and has played 20 times at senior level, scoring five goals. Roma are in the market for a new striker after Tammy Abraham joined Besiktas on an initial season-long loan deal, which will be made permanent next summer if certain conditions are met. Analysis by Andy Naylor A temporary move abroad to a high-quality club is a logical next step to revive Ferguson's fortunes. A loan to Premier League rivals West Ham at the end of the winter transfer window in February seemed to make sense for the No 9. That reunited Ferguson with Potter, his first head coach at Brighton, but the switch designed to increase his game-time and restore confidence did not work out. Only one of Ferguson's eight goalless appearances for West Ham in the Premier League was as a starter. Ferguson has dropped down the pecking order of strikers at the Amex Stadium since bursting onto the scene with six goals and two assists in 19 league appearances in the 2022-23 season. A series of injuries and irregular game time have sapped that early promise. He has scored twice in his last 39 appearances for Brighton across all competitions since November 2023 and he has not started successive matches since December of that year. Competition for forward spots in Hurzeler's side for the coming season has increased in spite of Joao Pedro's departure to Chelsea, with the signings of Greek strikers Stefanos Tzimas in January and Charalampos Kostoulas this summer. Ferguson signed a six-year contract in 2023. Brighton have not given up hope that he will come good again, but his next step will be important to restore faith and value in a prospect talked about as a £90m player when he first served notice of his potential.

Former Barcelona star responds to Rashford signing with social media message

A one-time member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has provided his response to the news of the club's deal for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford. Rashford's name has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya's capital over the last 24 hours. This comes after the long-running saga linking the 27-year-old with a move to the Camp Nou was finally brought to a definitive end. After Deco and co. made the call to open official negotiations with their counterparts at Manchester United, a loan deal for the 2025/26 campaign was quickly put in place between the parties. Rashford's impending arrival has since been met with something of a mixed response across the Barcelona fanbase, with some enthused by the signing, and others largely underwhelmed. As alluded to above, though, one individual who certainly appears to be excited by the prospect of his fellow countryman lining out in Blaugrana colours is Gary Lineker. In the aftermath of Saturday's Rashford news coming to the fore online, one-time Barca striker Lineker quickly took to his official Instagram account, to unveil a new profile picture: Conor Laird – GSFN

Date: Sunday, July 20, 2014 Venue: Stadio Rodolfo Zandegiacomo, Auronzo di Cadore Fixture: Lazio – Indonesia U23 2-0, Pre-Season Friendly Two goals, a missed penalty and three posts against the Indonesian U23 In Memory: João Fantoni João Fantoni, in Brasil also known as Ninão or Juan, was part of a bunch of Brazilian 'oriundi' who in the early 1930s arrived in Italy looking for a team that would take them on. The 'oriundi' were those foreign players with Italian ancestry who could play in Italy as Italian nationals. Just as an example, for the World Cup of 1934, there were six oriundi in the Italian squad. Attilio Demaría and Luis Monti had even played in the 1930 World Cup for Argentina. Born in Belo Horizonte on July 24, 1905, João Fantoni joined Lazio with his cousin Octavio in early 1931 and they were the forerunners of a bunch of players who arrived the next season: defenders Armando Del Debbio, Pedro Rizzetti, Enzio Enrique Serafini and forwards José Castelli, Alejandro Demaria, Anfilogino Guarisi and André Emanuel Tedesco. There was even a player-manager, Barbuy Amilcar, who coached Lazio in the last few games of 1930-31 and the entire 1931-32 season. This was the period which many call 'Brasilazio' and many of the players stayed until 1935. The majority left because they were afraid they would be called to arms as Italy was at war with Ethiopia. The two Fantoni's were later joined by Leonidio, brother of João in 1932. Another brother, Orlando, played for Lazio in 1947. João Fantoni made 113 appearances with 39 goals. He was a very good forward. His five years in Rome will always be engraved in his family history as his first child was born in the eternal city and was named Romano Benito. The latter name was apparently in gratitude to Mussolini who had promised to cover all the hospital costs if Fantoni scored in the derby (he did score, even if Lazio lost 3-1). He died on July 19, 1982, in Belo Horizonte. Birthdays This Week Samir Handanovic, 14-7-1984, goalkeeper, Slovenia, 1 appearance (2006-07) Bruno Nicolini, 14-7-1904, goalkeeper, Italy, 24 appearances (1925-29) Marco Di Vaio, 15-7-1976, forward, Italy, 18 appearances, 6 goals (1993-95) Marius Stankevičius, 15-7-1981, defender, Lithuania, 16 appearances (2011-13) Jaap Stam, 17-7-1972, defender, Netherlands, 94 appearances, 4 goals (2001-04) Bob Lovati, 20-7-1927, goalkeeper, Italy, 147 appearances (1955-61, manager, assistant and many other things!!!)
