The new Snoopy MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold hides a neat secret on the dial
Swatch is once again reaching for the stars – and the Earth – with its latest MoonSwatch release. The Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold isn't just another colourful collab with Snoopy on the dial, it's a watch with something hidden beneath the surface, quite literally. At first glance, this is classic MoonSwatch fare: a 42mm case made from navy Bioceramic, a matching rubber strap with Velcro closure, and all the usual branding (note, that's the upgraded strap) – Omega x Swatch, Speedmaster logo, and the MoonSwatch name loud and proud. It even includes the now-signature 'S' etched into the centre of the biosourced glass, to help differentiate it from fakes. But the real magic lies in the new complications. First up is Swatch's 'Earth phase' display – a clever spin on the traditional moon phase that shows how Earth would look from the Moon. Just like its lunar counterpart, it follows a 29.5-day cycle, only in reverse. The Earth is shown at the 10 o'clock subdial, complete with oceans that glow blue under UV light. Look a little closer, and you'll spot Snoopy and Woodstock, dressed in full astronaut gear, standing on the Moon and marvelling at Earth. Shine a UV torch at the dial, and a hidden phrase appears in the form of a speech bubble saying, 'I beat everybody…' This is Snoopy proudly proclaiming his victory in a race to the moon. A secret detail that adds a layer of charm and celebrates the spirit of curiosity and exploration. Over at the 2 o'clock subdial, you'll find a dual moon phase display. Both moons are coated in Omega's proprietary Moonshine Gold. One is styled in Snoopy's cartoonish aesthetic, while the other features a net-like design as a nod to the full Sturgeon Moon, which arrives in August – the inspiration for the launch date. Around back, there's an Earth-themed battery cover to complete the package. The Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold will be available exclusively on 9 August 2025, in selected Swatch stores worldwide (not online, like other MoonSwatch models) – the same night as that full Sturgeon Moon. AVI-8 and Peanuts team up for the Snoopy Flying Ace watch collection, and I want all five
AVI-8 is taking flight with an unlikely co-pilot – Snoopy. In a first-time collaboration with the legendary Peanuts comic strip, the aviation-inspired watchmaker has unveiled the Snoopy Flying Ace Capsule Collection, a limited-edition run of five characterful watches. This quirky collection is a loving tribute to Snoopy's iconic alter ego, the Flying Ace – a daydreaming beagle who duels the Red Baron from the roof of his doghouse. AVI-8 has channelled its aviation design language into these comic-inspired timepieces, blending horological details with playful touches straight from Charles M. Schulz's beloved panels. The watches themselves are no gimmicks. AVI-8's watches are always super solid, and use Japanese movements – both quartz and automatic, depending on the model. If you like the MoonSwatch x Snoopy model, but are put off by the plastic case, then these are an excellent alternative. Whether it's the Ace Black chronograph with a stealthy matte black finish or the Beagle Blue with a sunray dial and sapphire lens, each piece offers distinct features and styling. And if you've ever wanted a watch with Woodstock on the bezel, you're covered. Hidden details are where the collection really shines. Flash the included UV light on the dial and you'll discover surprise comic artwork, Snoopy silhouettes, pawprints and more, all carefully embedded into the design. Some models even hide an entire comic strip under the surface. Flip them over and you'll find custom casebacks – ranging from Flying Ace graphics to mini engraved comic panels. Even the straps feature subtle nods to the Peanuts gang, with leather finishes in brown, blue, green and black tones depending on the model. I've been wearing the Camel Brown model for a week now, and it's honestly been a joy. It's just a really fun watch to have on your wrist—full of character without feeling like a novelty. The 40mm case is spot on for everyday wear, and it's slim enough to sit comfortably without catching on sleeves. The brown leather strap is soft straight out of the box, and the whole thing wears really well. Sure, it's not the most precise or legible watch (Snoopy's arms do the pointing, which can be a bit vague), but for something this playful, that's a trade-off I'm happy to make. Now, on to prices and availability. At the affordable end, the Doghouse Green and Camel Brown watches feature Meca-Quartz movements and are priced at US$210 / £210. On the other end, the Beagle Blue Spitfire Automatic tips US$330 / £330 with upgraded specs like a sapphire lens and automatic movement. The Biplane Brown and Ace Black models sit in between. This might just be the most charming crossover in watchmaking this year. Whether you're a die-hard AVI-8 fan or just have a soft spot for Snoopy and his doghouse dogfights, this capsule collection offers something refreshingly fun. Each of the five watches is capped at just 250 units globally, meaning only 1250 people will ever get to wear one. Every model comes individually numbered, complete with a certificate of authenticity and presented in a charming doghouse-shaped box (it might be the best watch box I've ever seen). The Snoopy Flying Ace Capsule Collection will be available to purchase from the 25th of July at AVI-8's website, and, as mentioned before, these watches are strictly limited and won't be reissued. These Focal Diva Mezza Utopia speakers take streaming hi-fi to a whole new level
In the lingo of musical instruction, 'mezza' means to play softly or at half volume, but there are absolutely no half measures when it comes to these Focal Diva Mezza Utopia speakers. Following on from last year's Diva Utopia, which would set you back a hefty £29,999, the Mezza require even deeper pockets at £55,000 per pair. So what do you get for your gigantic pile of cash? Standing slightly taller than an Emperor penguin at 50in, each speaker has a frankly ludicrous 500W of total amplification inside, with 90W going to the tweeter, 130W to the 6.5in mid driver, and 280W shared between the four 8in bass drivers (two on either side of each speaker). Never mind bothering the neighbours, there'll be flightless birds in Antarctica who'll be annoyed with you if you crank these right up. You can feed them (the speakers, not the penguins) wirelessly using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and if you've got a hi-res source the ultra-wide band connection between them allows for playback at up to 96kHz/24-bit without needing to use a cable. Tether them together using ethernet and that jumps to studio-level 192kHz/24-bit. As we said at the start: no half measures. There's a companion app you can use to control music playback, but the Focal Diva Mezza Utopia also support various Wi-Fi standards, including AirPlay 2, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect. With so much sonic power on offer the speakers need a little taming, so you can also run sound tests via the app that will calibrate them to the acoustics of your room. If you'd rather hook up your kit the old-fashioned way you also get a good array of physical connections on the primary speaker too, including optical, RCA, HDMI eARC and USB. The Focal Diva Mezza Utopia aren't the kind of speakers you can just order on Amazon, so if you're interested in a pair you'll need to head to Focal's website to find a dealer near you. And don't forget to warn your credit card of what's to come.
