AI 171 crash: Aviation minister rebuts foreign media claims

PTI photo NEW DELHI: Union aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Sunday urged western media to avoid speculation and appreciated AAIB for decoding black box data in India. 'AAIB has made an appeal to all, especially western media houses, which may have a vested interest in the kind of articles they are trying to publish. I believe in AAIB. I believe in the work that they are doing. They have done a wonderful job in decoding the whole black box and getting the data out in India itself,' he said. He reiterated govt will await the final report before drawing any conclusions. Govt has been firefighting over the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau's (AAIB) slammed-by-most preliminary probe into the deadly June 12 Air India AI 171 crash. While the report did not reveal cockpit voice recorder (CVR) transcript of the critical seconds, the western media started giving out those alleged details regularly a full 44 hours before the AAIB report was released on July 12 — which are yet to be denied by AAIB. The western reports have blamed AI 171 captain for the crash. The solitary selective indirect CVR quote in AAIB report also has one pilot asking the other why he switched off the fuel supply to engines. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Global Indices Are on the Move — Time to Trade! ‘We Got A Lot Done': Trump Marks Six Months In White House With Bold Claims

Last Updated: US President Trump marked six months of his second term. He called it one of the most consequential periods for any President. US President Donald Trump completed six months in the oval office on Sunday. Marking the day, Trump wrote on Truth, 'Wow, time flies! Today is that Sixth Month Anniversary of my Second Term." Immigration, federal spending, tariffs and war have been key highlights of Trump's second term. 'Importantly, it's being hailed as one of the most consequential periods of any President," Trump said. Trump implemented several changes in the second tenure. 'We got a lot of good and great things done, including ending numerous wars of Countries not related to us other than through Trade and/or, in certain cases, friendship. Six months is not a long time to have totally revived a major Country," Trump wrote Sunday. He added, 'One year ago our Country was DEAD, with almost no hope of revival. Today the USA is the 'hottest' and most respected Country anywhere in the World. Happy Anniversary!!!" One of the major implementation was signing of the 'Big Beautiful Bill" into law, a massive spending and tax bill that Democrats attempted to shut down by halting its passage. It made permanent tax cuts from a 2017 law he passed in his first term. The legislation also reduced Medicaid funds and increased spending for border security and defense. Another highlight of Trump 2.0 has been the surged arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Trump called for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. The US administration aims to deport 1mn people a year. Tariff threats that affected the entire geopolitics are also a highlight of Trump's tenure. However, Trump has repeatedly delayed the implementation of his tariff threats, giving rise to the viral phrase 'Taco", or Trump always chickens out. J&K Cong netas detained as police block rally seeking statehood

PTI photo JAMMU: J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra and senior functionaries GA Mir, Lal Singh, Raman Bhalla, and Ravinder Sharma were detained Sunday as police blocked the party's planned 'statehood march' in Jammu. They were taken to the police lines and released later. Congress has ramped up its statehood campaign under the banner 'Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq', holding protests and rallies across the region. A heavy police contingent halted the protest as Congress functionaries and workers began marching toward Raj Bhawan to submit a memorandum to LG Manoj Sinha demanding the restoration of J&K's statehood, which was revoked following the abrogation of Article 370 in Aug 2019 and bifurcation of the region into Union territories, including Ladakh. Karra said the party would proceed with its 'Delhi Challo' programme Monday to gherao Parliament on the first day of the monsoon session, despite police crackdowns in Jammu and Srinagar. 'These harsh measures will only strengthen our resolve,' he said, adding that MPs from INDIA bloc support the demand for full statehood. Former JKPCC chief and ex-minister Mir said: 'We're not asking for anything special — this is a commitment made by the PM himself.'
