'That result blows the FA Cup wide open'
Former Fulham defender Stephen Kelly has said that the side's FA Cup win over Manchester United has blown the competition "wide open".With the game locked in a 1-1 stalemate after extra time, Bernd Leno produced two saves in the penalty shootout to send the Whites through to the quarter-finals.Kelly told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Breakfast Club: "Going to Manchester United these days is not the same scalp as when I used to go there - and I never got one - but it is still a massive win."That result blows the FA Cup wide open, particularly with Newcastle now out of it as well. "Manchester City is the big one, and Aston Villa, but then you think there is a real chance for these other clubs to get to a final and pick up some silverware."

Crystal Palace release TWENTY players including star man Ebere Eze's brother as they anxiously await European fate
CRYSTAL PALACE have released 20 players following the 2024-25 season. The Eagles enjoyed a successful campaign this term, winning the FA Cup and qualifying for Europa League football. 3 But they will now bid farewell to several players as they prepare for the upcoming season. As previously announced, Joel Ward is leaving Selhurst Park after 13 years. The 35-year-old made 364 appearances for Crystal Palace after joining from Portsmouth. But a calf issue hampered his final year at the club, limiting him to just three outings. Jeffrey Schlupp is also confirmed to be leaving after eight-and-a-half years. The 32-year-old spent the second half of the season with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. Among the other players listed as free transfers, as per the official Premier League website, are; Cormac Austin, Chris Francis, Roshaun Mathurin, Louie Moulden, Kurainashe Musanhi, David Obou, Killian Phillips, Luke Plange, Jadan Raymond, Joe Sheridan and Jack Wells-Morrison. Chimaechi Eze, the brother of star man Eberechi Eze, has also been listed as a free transfer. The players released by Palace are; Freddie Cowin, William Eastwood, Joseph Khoshaba, Enruque Lameiras, Finley Marjoram and Caleb Redhead. Despite qualifing for next season's Europa League, the Eagles are currently at risk of being kicked out of the competition. Crystal Palace could be KICKED OUT of Europa League before a ball is even kicked John Textor has a stake in both Crystal Palace and Lyon, who have also qualified. Uefa rules on multi-club ownership prevent any two clubs controlled by the same person or group from competing in the same competition. A decision is expected to be made on Palace's participation by the end of this month. 3

Abramovich breaks silence on Chelsea sale with return hint in rare statement
Former Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich wishes for a return to the club but has vowed never to own a football club again. The Russian oligarch was in situ for the most successful period in the Blues' history. Having completed a takeover of the West London side in 2003, he oversaw five Premier League successes, five FA Cup wins and three League Cups wins. He also helped Chelsea end their long wait for a European crown in 2012, before adding a second Champions League title in 2021. But Abramovich was forced to pull out of the club a year later having been sanctioned by the UK government following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Todd Boehly and Clearlake's consortium then sealed a £4.25bn takeover. And speaking out on his exit, Abramovich has claimed he wants to return to Chelsea to bid farewell to the club having drawn a line under football ownership entirely. Speaking in a new book titled Sanctioned: The Inside Story of the Sale of Chelsea FC, he said: 'Perhaps one day there would be a situation where I could attend a match and say a proper goodbye, but nothing more than that," the Daily Mail report. 'I don't have any interest in any role in a football club, certainly not a professional role. There might be something where I could help with academies and youngsters, giving greater opportunities to people from difficult backgrounds, if there were an initiative that could make a difference. But as for ownership or a professional role at a club, I am done with that in this lifetime.' Chelsea in race against time to beat FIFA Club World Cup deadline and seal TWO transfers 'I wore Chelsea's No. 9 before Liam Delap – friends and family laughed when I got it' Following his sale of Chelsea, Abramovich was ordered to send £2.5bn of the proceeds to aid Ukraine. But as it stands, that amount remains in a UK bank account, with the government now threatening to sue the 58-year-old. A joint statement from Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Foreign Secretary David Lammy read: "The government is determined to see the proceeds from the sale of Chelsea Football Club reach humanitarian causes in Ukraine, following Russia's illegal full-scale invasion. "We are deeply frustrated that it has not been possible to reach agreement on this with Mr Abramovich so far. While the door for negotiations will remain open, we are fully prepared to pursue this through the courts if required, to ensure people suffering in Ukraine can benefit from these proceeds as soon as possible." What is a success for Chelsea next season? Share your thoughts in the comments below Abramovich commented on those accusations, giving them short shrift. 'There is an old Russian saying, 'The dogs bark but the caravan keeps moving,' and that fits here,' he also told the book's author, Nick Purewal. 'Whatever I do, people will always accuse me of some kind of agenda. In the end, I have done what I have done simply to try to help.' Ex-Chelsea star John Obi Mikel recently revealed that Abramovich still harbours frustration over the circumstances of Chelsea's sale. Mikel said: 'It's just unfortunate what happened: he lost the football club. I still speak to people close to him and it still pains him. He's still angry about what happened. 'He's not happy that he lost his 'baby' because Chelsea Football Club was his football club. He really cared about the football club, not just the players but the fans.' Celtic to make it four princes south of the King's Road as Callum Osmand joins £70m of transfer ingenuity
There is no fool-proof formula to signing players but the Premiership champions appear to have cracked it when it comes to arrivals from West London Signing football players can be an inexact science but if clubs find a formula that works then it can cause a signing explosion. Premiership kingpins Celtic boast an array of transfer hits in the modern era with half of Liverpool's new-look defence starring in green and white in Virgil van Dijk and Jeremie Frimpong turning heads in Glasgow before earning money-spinning exits. Southampton once viewed the Bhoys in green and white as a sage investment with the aforementioned van Dijk, Fraser Forster, Victor Wanyama and Stuart Armstrong all heading to St Mary's. And Celtic themselves have struck gold on their own personal favoured destination and appear primed to once again turn to a star in the making reared in the famed Fulham academy. Enter Callum Osmand; the 19-year-old standout is on the brink of signing for the Premiership champions and he certainly has some recent success stories to prove it's a move worth making. The Welsh youth international is primed to compete in Brendan Rodgers' first team and the Irishman's first trophy-laden era was set off by a star signing from the Cottagers. Moussa Dembele was a step ahead of Osmand with regular game time in the Fulham first team and he backed that up when he arrived in Glasgow. Seriously, Celtic have landed a hat-trick of their most exciting talents from a finishing school which also honed the skills of two modern favourites among the Parkhead fanbase. Managers, academy directors and scouts change, however, players honed in Fulham who arrive at Celtic appear to be a winning combination. Patrick Roberts spent two-and-a-half years on loan from Manchester City after he was signed from Fulham and Matt O'Riley – a snip at £1.5million from Russell Martin's then MK Dons in 2022 – was another who made the grade at Craven Cottage. In total, including transfers, signing-on fees and bumper wages, Celtic have enjoyed the benefits from a trio of talents in Dembele, O'Riley and Roberts which has soared beyond £70m. And the move for Osmand has sparked as much resentment down by the Thames as it has excitement in Glasgow. Fulham fans, and this isn't a feeling consigned to only them, are pig sick that another academy talent is exiting with palpable concerns that first-team success shouldn't be to the detriment to the obvious talent they are churning out. Celtic themselves are no strangers to losing their best young talent with Daniel Cummings – potentially an option for the role earmarked for Osmand – after he secured his move to West Ham. And the incoming forward appears a player of status with his 10 goals in EPL2 last season. Osmand specialises in playing on the last defender and appears suited to the way Rodgers wants his strikers to operate. Now the youngster aims to continue a tradition which appears to always pay off for Celtic.
