Paul Pierce walked 20 miles to work after Celtics prediction goes horribly wrong
Former Boston Celtics great Paul Pierce learned a valuable lesson Wednesday: If you make an outlandish prediction on live television, you better be ready to follow through. Pierce paid for that decision Thursday, as he walked 20 miles to the FS1 studio after his Celtics prediction backfired in horrific fashion.
Pierce got himself into trouble during an appearance on FS1 on Wednesday. While discussing the Celtics' playoff series vs. the New York Knicks, Pierce made a bold proclamation.
"If the Celtics lose Game 2 at home, I promise you, I'm walking here tomorrow. I'm walking here. I'm walking here 15 miles. I'm walking here. In my robe. No shoes on. Barefeet. If the Celtics lose [Wednesday]."
Well, the Celtics lost Wednesday and Pierce suddenly found himself in a tough spot. Should he risk scorn and ridicule from the rest of the FS1 crew and a horde of people on social media? Or should he actually wake up at 3 a.m. and walk to the FS1 studio?
On Wednesday evening, Pierce seemed to indicate he was willing to make the trek.

Pierce's screenshot showed the walk from his house to the FS1 studio was actually 20 miles. During Wednesday's television appearance, he mistakenly said it was a 15-mile walk.
To Pierce's credit, he actually followed through. Pierce started documenting the experience on his Instagram story. While he didn't get up at 3 a.m., Pierce captured video of himself leaving his house at roughly 5 a.m. PT. He told fans he would check in with them later, and, yes, he was wearing a robe.
Pierce then followed up with fans multiple times as he walked to the studio.

Around 1 p.m. PT, Pierce said on his Instagram that he'd made it to the studio, and he certainly looked sweaty enough to prove it. "I'm never doing this again," he said. Though he added, "I feel like I accomplished something great."
"Hoping this can inspire my Celtics and we can get back in this series and pull this series out," Pierce said.

With their loss Wednesday, the Celtics fell behind 2-0 in the series with the Knicks. While Celtics players likely woke up frustrated Thursday, at least they know there's someone out there having a much worse morning as a result of the loss.

It lost Game 6, 131-92, in Boston as the Celtics claimed their 17th championship, and although the Celtics were ahead by a wide margin down the stretch, head coach Doc Rivers could still feel the fear that Bryant always put in the minds and hearts of opponents. Celtics defensive coordinator Tom Thibodeau wanted Rivers to take his starters out midway through the fourth quarter, but Rivers refused because he feared that Bryant could get L.A. back in the game. Via Fox Sports: 'Game 6 was terrific,' Rivers said. 'That's a moment that I remember in 2008. The funniest moment, Kobe knows this, but we were up 1,000 [points] in Game 6 and the guy who you would least expect walks over to me during the game -- Tom Thibodeau -- and he asks me, 'Are you going to sub out? There's six minutes and we're up 42 points.' 'Of all the guys to say that, it's Tom Thibodeau. And I looked over there at the Lakers and Kobe was still on the floor, and I actually said, 'When Phil [Jackson] takes that guy out, I take my guys out.' And Thibs said, 'You're safe.' And I said, 'Not with that guy on the floor.' 'I was dead serious. I had obviously lost my mind because it was a 42-point lead. But he put that fear in you, man. He could run off threes. The type of deficit the Lakers faced in the fourth quarter of that game was one even Bryant couldn't overcome. The embarrassment they suffered bonded the team together, and coming into next season, it was clearly on a mission. It won the 2009 NBA title, but it defeated the Orlando Magic and not the Celtics. The Lakers finally got another shot at the men in green in the 2010 finals, and this time, they won it all, as they overcame a 13-point deficit in the third quarter of Game 7. Bryant shot 6-of-24 from the field in that seventh game, but he played very well for most of the second half and especially in the fourth quarter, as he found ways to be efficient offensively while also contributing in other areas. From Braids to Bows, These Dads Love Doing Their Daughters' Hair
Strider Patton says there's one moment that makes all the hours of perfecting braids and bows and high ponies worth it. "Someone leans down to my daughter and says, 'Wow, your hair looks great today! Did your mommy do it?'" Patton, who teaches fathers how to style kids' hair on his popular @ Instagram account, tells His daughter Imogen was 2 years old at the time. "She turns around and points at me. She says, 'Dad braids.' And I was like, 'Yes! That's it!'" In the three years since that moment, Patton's hair styling skills have improved dramatically. Now he can do lace braids, bubble braids and even a double French high pony. And he has brought almost 250,000 followers on Instagram along for the ride. Patton is one of the many fathers who are taking on hairstyling duties and loving every brushstroke. The growing number of dads who do their daughters' hair with pride speaks to a change in the way fathers view their roles in the family, he says. He doesn't aim for perfection. He aims for presence. "It doesn't matter how bad your hair (styling) is," Patton says. "Your daughter's just going to love that you're there with her." When he was first struggling with his Imogen's hair, Patton searched for hair tutorials online but most featured moms doing their daughters' hair. They sailed too quickly through the basic steps that Patton still needed to learn. So Patton started an Instagram account for dads who didn't know where to begin. He set up a camera and shared videos of him doing Imogen's hair every morning. As a professional artist, he had a more flexible schedule than his wife, who owns a children's theater. "It's just so fun to not be an expert and just be like, 'Hey, I'm just a dad trying to learn how to do this, just like you guys.'" Patton certainly isn't alone on his journey. chatted with several dads who have surpassed their wives' hairstyling skills. And they're not just tooting their own horn — their wives volunteered them for interviews. Shounak Shah, who says his daughter Arya is "6 going on 15," shares that if he lets Arya choose a parent to style her hair, "she would pick me, 100 percent." He jokes, "Mommy is not the styling type." Shah, a physical therapist, will call out to Arya, "It's salon time!" and she sits at a little desk and watches a show while Shah adds product and styles her hair. Dad Jon Studham plays 'Baby Alive' for his 5-year-old while he styles her hair every morning. "I was terrible at first, but she didn't care," he says. "It isn't about getting every strand in place. It's about showing up, being part of her rhythm, building the moments in life that matter and showing she can count on me." He continues, 'One day, she won't need or want me to do her hair. But until then, I'll be there — with a brush, a bow, and all the time she needs.' "I love finding ways to bond with my kids in so many different ways, and doing hair was just one of those creative outlets," says Scott Wormser, who heads up the marketing department at a print shop. He is so adept at doing his 10-year-old daughter Marni's hair that he's even in charge of her styles for dance competitions, which are often difficult and specific ... and must stay intact throughout an energetic routine. "My wife would always try to do a braid on my daughter's hair, and she just wouldn't get it as tight as I could." Wormser laughs, "And I definitely have much more patience than my wife." Patton points out that the sheer number of dads who have taken on hair duty suggests a change in our outlook on modern fatherhood. "For quarter of a million dads out there, it's saying that I care enough to try something new," he says. "It's hard, but it's fun, and it means something. And it gives me a moment, every day, with my girl." Patton sums it up by adding, "At the heart of this, it's really simple: dads want to connect with their daughters, but a lot of us don't always know how.
