Japan-based company is poised for its moon-landing attempt

Title: Here's what to expect during today's moon-landing attempt
Content:
Resilience, a spacecraft built by Tokyo-based Ispace that could redeem the company after a failed moon-landing attempt in 2023, is ready to make its final descent to the lunar surface.
Ispace has broken down its mission in to series of 10 goals or anticipated 'successes.' Resilience has already notched through the first eight of those steps.
All that's left is the landing sequence and the harrowing moment of touchdown.
Here are the key moments to watch out for:
• During the touchdown attempt, Ispace will confirm it has started the 'lunar landing sequence' — the final steps the Resilience lander will need to tick through in the moments before the vehicle leaves it circular orbit around the moon and begins its touchdown attempt.
• There a several critical phases within the sequence. The vehicle will begin to change its orientation and start the braking process, aiming to slow down Resilience's speed.
• Resilience's targeted touchdown time is 3:17 p.m. ET. The lander is aiming for a spot within Mare Frigoris — or the 'Sea of Cold' — which lies in the moon's far northern reaches.
• If all goes according to plan, Ispace should confirm the vehicle is safely on the surface within a minute or so after touchdown, the company's CEO, Takeshi Hakamada, told CNN.
• Ground controllers will then conduct a series of health checks to make sure the lander, its science instruments and all other components are functioning as intended.
• The first image from the lander is expected within the first 12 hours after the spacecraft reaches the surface, perhaps sooner. (Take note: Every lunar landing mission has to deal with limited bandwidth to beam data back to Earth. Sometimes, visuals are not the highest priority.)

Fujitsu to Develop 10,000-Qubit Quantum System by 2030 With Japan's Strategic Support

As we reported last week, Japan is expanding its push into quantum computing with a $335 million investment aimed at building domestic capacity. The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry will fund more than 10 companies, including Fujitsu (FJTSY) and KDDI (KDDIY). The focus spans both hardware and software, with support for superconducting and optical quantum systems. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Now, the latest news suggests Fujitsu plans to build a superconducting quantum computer with over 10,000 physical qubits and 250 logical qubits by fiscal 2030. The project is part of Japan's post- 5G R&D program, which runs through 2027 under the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). Fujitsu will lead this effort in partnership with research institutions, including RIKEN and AIST. Shares of Fujitsu are up 10% over the past five trading days. Japan-Backed Quantum Plan Supports Fujitsu's Growth Path The upcoming machine will use Fujitsu's STAR architecture, an early-stage fault-tolerant design first announced in 2024. According to the company, this approach is well-suited for materials science and energy modeling, two early use cases with strong computational needs. In 2025, Fujitsu launched a 256-qubit superconducting system, developed under the RIKEN collaboration that began in 2021. The company now plans to install a 1,000-qubit machine at its new facility in 2026, as a stepping stone toward the larger 10,000-qubit target. In parallel, Fujitsu is working on diamond spin-based qubits in collaboration with Delft University of Technology and QuTech. The company expects to integrate these with superconducting chips by fiscal 2035 to build a 1,000 logical qubit system. Fujitsu is also developing its next-generation high-performance computing platform, powered by the FUJITSU-MONAKA processor line, which will support both classical and quantum workloads. Japan's broader quantum strategy calls for 10 million domestic users by 2030 and aims to create over $320 billion in new market value. Regional innovation hubs and a new research center, G-QuAT, will support talent development and commercial use. While quantum computing remains a long-term play, Fujitsu's government-backed roadmap signals continued investment in high-tech infrastructure across Japan. Fujitsu's Technical Indicators Fujitsu's short-term technical indicators are mixed, with a Sell signal on momentum but a Strong Buy based on moving averages, supported by a share price above both the 20-day and 50-day trend lines.

(NYSE:HMC) released its June 2025 production and sales report on July 30, 2025, highlighting both strategic shifts and obstacles. In June 2025, the company's total worldwide output came to 287,783 units, a tiny 0.6% year-over-year (YOY) decrease led by a 2.4% decline in production outside of Japan. However, Japan experienced a robust recovery, with 60,804 units produced, an 8.5% year-over-year increase. Japan's production increased by 9.7%, contributing to the overall trend. The Japanese market also experienced difficulties, with sales falling 16.9% year over year to 49,263 units, the third consecutive month of declining sales. Sales of mini-vehicles fell 8.3% year over year, continuing their poor performance. Despite a robust 190.7% year-over-year growth in June shipments, which came to 12,012 units, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) faced difficulties with its export operations. The 472.4% increase in shipments to the USA, which made a substantial contribution to the overall export rise, was a noteworthy highlight. Despite these conflicting figures, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) is steadfast in its commitment to sustainable technologies, emphasizing environmentally friendly options. Notably, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (NYSE:HMC) revealed a new plan on June 30, 2025, for the production of fuel cell modules in Moka City, Japan. The strategy aims to maintain the company's long-term commitment to hydrogen technology while reducing initial manufacturing capacity. Meanwhile, Macquarie downgraded Honda from 'Outperform' to 'Neutral' on June 25, 2025, indicating a more cautious stance in the face of global manufacturing challenges. Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake won't have an upgrade or cross save on Switch 2, making the JRPG's game-key card your only physical option

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Square Enix has confirmed that there won't be an option to upgrade Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake on Nintendo Switch to a Switch 2 edition. Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake was recently confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 alongside the announcement of its October release date alongside the PC, Xbox, PS5, and Switch, which Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake released on last year. While the remake of Dragon Quest 3 was only 7.7GB, Square Enix confirmed that the 1 & 2 remake will be on a game-key card, but there's even worse news for Switch 2 players who want a physical copy. In a FAQ on the Dragon Quest website Square Enix confirms that the Switch 2 and Switch versions of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake won't be cross-compatible. If you wanted to buy a physical Switch copy of the game to play on your Switch 2, you can play it, but "it will perform as it would on a Nintendo Switch," so if you wanted to play it with the Switch 2 performance improvements you're out of luck. Square says that there won't be an upgrade path available for Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake from Switch to Switch 2, meaning you'll need to buy the Switch 2 version if you want to play that version. Not only that, but there won't be cross-save between both versions either. This, mixed with the fact there's no actual physical release of Dragon Quest 1 & 2 on Switch 2, instead being a game-key card, makes it a complete bummer for Switch 2 owners. Our GamesRadar+ preview of the remake said "these lovingly made refreshes are shaping up to be a wonderfully accessible way to experience a crucial piece of gaming history," so it sounds like a worthy remake, it's just a shame there's no good way to get a Switch 2 version physically. Chrono Trigger and Xenogears writer "actually hated" video games before discovering Dragon Quest: "That concept really stunned me."
