Zohran Mamdani visiting democrats in Washington, D.C., sources say
Sources tell CBS News New York that Mamdani is in the nation's capital to seek the support of democrats and meet with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed him in the primary.
At the time, Ocasio-Cortez said the democratic socialist had "demonstrated a real ability to put together a coalition of working-class New Yorkers that is strongest to lead the pack." Sen. Bernie Sanders followed suit and came forward to endorse Mamdani in the primary, as well.
Mandani went on to win the Democratic primary in a stunning victory over former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and nine other candidates.
Cuomo officially relaunched his candidacy this week and asked the other independent candidates to drop out if they are not in the lead come September.
"I don't want to be part of a suicide mission," Cuomo told CBS News New York's political reporter Marcia Kramer in an interview Tuesday. "If Adams is a stronger candidate, I'm not going to be a spoiler and I'll defer. I'm not going to be a reason that this assemblyman became mayor of the city of New York."
A spokesperson for incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is also running as an independent, brushed off the comments, saying he has no interest in stepping aside.
The general election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 4, when Mamdani, Cuomo and Adams will face Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa and independent candidate Jim Walden. Marcia Kramer

No, Instagram didn't suspend Zohran Mamdani's account for being ‘too socialist'
In a story published earlier this week, a site called 'NYC Journals' claimed to have a bombshell: that Instagram had suspended the account of New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani for being 'too socialist.' The story claimed that Mamdani's account was down for three hours; it also cited a 'leaked memo' from inside Instagram that said his content went against US national interests. The article is surprisingly detailed — it includes quotes attributed to Mamdani himself, as well as a 'political communications expert' lamenting the control tech platforms have over political discourse. It would be a huge story in a race that's already been surprising and contentious. The problem, of course, is that it's not true. The article has been posted to social media platforms like Bluesky, Reddit, Mastodon, and X, racking up reposts, likes, and comments. But Meta spokesperson Ryan Daniels confirmed that there's no such memo or restrictions on Mamdani's account. Mamdani campaign spokesperson Dora Pekec confirmed to The Verge that the article, the statement attributed to Mamdani, and the account suspension are all fake. NYC Journals' website doesn't have many details about the outlet, and the fake story is attributed to a general 'NYC Journals Staff' byline. Elsewhere on the site it claims that its information is 'corroborated with a myriad of sources and fact checked thoroughly.' It's not clear where or how the story began to spread, but it's been picked up by a handful of other fly-by-night websites that pop up suddenly and disappear just as fast. NYC Journals did not list a way to contact the site for comment. Though Mamdani is running in a local election, his candidacy has drawn national attention. After Mamdani became the presumptive Democratic nominee in June, Donald Trump seemed to endorse false claims that Mamdani was in the US 'illegally.' Other Republicans have called for Mamdani to be deported. Mamdani is a naturalized US citizen. This isn't the first false story that's circulated during the race for mayor — and likely won't be the last. Posts from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Fox News ‘Antisemitism Exposed' Newsletter: Is Columbia finally getting it?
Fox News' "Antisemitism Exposed" newsletter brings you stories on the rising anti-Jewish prejudice across the U.S. and the world. IN TODAY'S NEWSLETTER: - Columbia University disciplines 70 students more than a year after violent library takeover- AOC campaign office vandalized with anti-Israel message- House resolution aims to condemn phrase that's created firestorm for Zohran Mamdani TOP STORY: Columbia University on Monday finally disciplined more than 70 students for their involvement in unruly pro-Palestine demonstrations that took place on campus several months ago, sources revealed to Fox News Tuesday. The "disruptions," which Columbia also referred to as "high-volume events," included the May 7 riots at Butler Library, an encampment during Alumni Weekend in spring 2024, and three other chaotic events in spring 2024. Disciplinary actions included probation, suspensions (ranging from one year to three years), degree revocations and expulsions. VIDEO: Squad leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., opened up about her breakfast with mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and ICE activity in her district. WATCH HERE: UNLIKELY TARGET: Police in New York City responded after a campaign office for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was vandalized with a painted anti-Israel slogan this weekend. The incident came just days after Ocasio-Cortez voted against legislation from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., that would have cut funding for the Israeli Defense Forces. THE PHRASE THAT SLAYS: A bipartisan House duo is teaming up for a resolution to urge elected leaders in the U.S. to condemn the phrase "globalize the intifada." The legislation, being led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., and Rudy Yakym, R-Ind., would condemn the phrase "as a call to violence against Israeli and Jewish people across the world." GUEST EDITORIAL: Jonathan Harounoff, Israel's international spokesperson at the UN, writes that Iran's Jews are caught in the crossfire of the regime's propaganda war. Following the 12-day war, regime forces detained dozens of Jews in Tehran and Shiraz. "This was not just a crackdown, but a calculated move to isolate and intimidate an already vulnerable community," writes Harounoff. QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "Condemning it should be common sense, but some would rather play politics than tell the truth. The violence and hatred directed at Jewish and Israeli people is reprehensible." U.S. Rep. Rudy Yakym, R-Ind., on the anti-Semitic phrase "Globalize the intifada." - Looking for more on this topic? Prediction markets forecast socialist landslide for NYC mayor race
Gambling content 21+. The New York Post may receive an affiliate commission if you sign up through our links. Read our editorial standards for more information. Don't look now, but it appears the controversial candidate is separating himself in the New York City mayoral race. Democratic primary winner Zohran Mamdani is a massive favorite to triumph in the November election, being given a 72 percent chance at victory, according to prediction market Kalshi. Kalshi, a CFTC-licensed derivative market that takes wagers on real-life events, is taking money on this election, with $12,917,756 already wagered on the market as of Thursday morning. Mamdani, while favored, has seen his lead dwindle a bit. He got as high as 94.8 percent in April, so there is some potential that a different candidate could close the gap. 5 Mayor Eric Adams potentially could be replaced in the upcoming election. James Messerschmidt Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo — whom Mamdani defeated in the democratic primary — has a growing chance, according to the money market. He is at 15 percent, significantly higher than the less than two percent chance he had in May. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams has remained steady with a nine percent chance of victory come November. 5 The Post's front page from July 16, 2025. rfaraino 5 NYC Mayor Race Winner market shown on Kalshi. Kzlshi Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa is an afterthought, with his odds coming in at just three percent. There had been rumors that Silwa would drop out of the race and one of Cuomo or Adams would take over the republican bid to be the NYC Mayor, but that hasn't happened as the election nears. 5 Democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani, who won the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. A $10 bet on Cuomo would pay out $67 ($57 profit) if he can overcome Mamdani, while a $10 bet on the favorite would pay out just $14.
