A woman fell to her death while on a hike with her family in Sutton, Mass., on Wednesday, April 23, per a Sutton Police Department (SPD) news release.
Carolyn 'Carrie' Sanger, 49, was on a hike with three of her four children and additional family members when she fell approximately 50-75 feet into the Purgatory Chasm State Reserve. Authorities received a call around 1:45 p.m. local time, reporting a woman had fallen into the Chasm, which is around a quarter of a mile within granite bedrock walls, and features caves and cliffs.
'There were multiple medical professionals in the area hiking the Chasm at the same time, and were able to provide medical attention right away,' SPD said. But Sanger succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after.
The fall appears accidental; however, an investigation into the incident is ongoing, per the SPD.

Several of her friends shared their condolences with her family, including Tim and Brooke Paoli. Brooke created a GoFundMe page to help the Sanger family 'navigate these uncertain financial times.'
'She was a bright light; a wonderful, selfless mother who has raised four incredible, respectful, responsible kids,' Brooke wrote. 'She was a friend to all and her smile and kind spirit will be greatly missed. She passed too early- but she left the earth doing what she loved, with the ones she loved. ❤️.'
Brooke's husband, Tim, told Boston 25 News that they learned of Carolyn's death when her husband, Mike, called him while Tim was watching the local news. 'I answered the phone by saying, 'Mike, do you know who they're talking about (from Topsfield)?' ' Tim said. ''Yeah, Tim, they're talking about Carrie.' And we lost it.'
'We believe it was simply a loss of footing and a trip,' Tim told the outlet. 'That particular part of the trail, my understanding is it's a scarier part of the trail. We don't believe she was on her phone or anything like that.'

"She was an amazing light to the world, really," Mo Levasseur said, per Boston 25 News. Levasseur knew Sanger through work. Sanger had recently left her job as an oncology nurse to pursue alternative therapies. She became a licensed massage therapist and a Reiki practitioner, and ran her own studio, Balanced Body, in Topsfield, Mass.
'We're quite shocked today to have lost her, but we're also blessed that she was in our path during the past year and a half,' Levasseur said.

'She could show up in a room, light up a room and give you a hug and you felt that warmth. She was a safe place, you could talk to her about anything," Jamie Belsito said of her 'dear friend.'
"You do the best you can. And you try to raise strong, healthy, wonderful children like she did. And her husband, Mike, will continue to do that," Belsito continued. "And we'll be here as a community to take care of them.'

Oak Creek man pleads guilty in drunk driving homicide of St. Francis teacher

An Oak Creek man has pleaded guilty to homicide by driving intoxicated in connection with a crash in Cudahy that killed a local teacher. Troy Vaillancourt, 28, was facing the felony charge for allegedly driving drunk and causing an accident that took the life of St. Francis teacher Michelle Engman on Dec. 6, 2024. Vaillancourt changed his plea to guilty June 9 as part of a plea agreement, according to online court records. He initially pleaded not guilty in December 2024. The court found him guilty and Vaillancourt was remanded into Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department custody. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 22. Following the crash, a GoFundMe was launched to help support Engman's family. As of June 9 it had raised $31,777 ― well above its $19,000 goal. According to the complaint: Cudahy police were dispatched to East Van Norman and South Lipton avenues for a two-car crash at 3 p.m. Dec. 6, 2024. Authorities found a Honda Civic and Chevrolet Trailblazer with severe damage and determined the crash occurred in the middle of the intersection. Engman, who was driving the Civic, was unconscious with no pulse. Officers attempted lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived and took her to the hospital. She died Dec. 8 from injuries received in the crash, according to the autopsy. Vaillancourt told police he was the driver of the Trailblazer and said he'd just finished work and was traveling south on South Lipton Avenue when the crash happened. Traffic southbound on Lipton has a stop sign while traffic on Van Norman Avenue has no stop sign. 'I'm 90% sure I blew the stop sign then hit her,' Vaillancourt told an officer, adding that he 'probably was speeding.' Officers observed Vaillancourt exhibited signs of intoxication though he denied drinking before the crash. He did admit to drinking the night before, including the early morning hours of Dec. 6. Vaillancourt took a breathalyzer which indicated his blood alcohol level was 0.169%. The legal limit in Wisconsin is 0.08%, but since Vaillancourt had two prior OWI convictions he must maintain a BAC under 0.02%. Contact Erik S. Body Found in Wooded Area amid Search for Navy Sailor Who Disappeared from Barracks

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) has confirmed to PEOPLE that a body was 'found in an off-base wooded area" in Norfolk, Va., on Monday, June 9 The body was found during the search for 21-year-old Angelina Petra Resendiz, who was reported missing on Thursday, May 29 An NCIS spokesperson said the Norfolk Medical Examiner's Office is "conducting an autopsy and working to positively identify the victim" as the family speaks outA family is speaking out after a body has been found in the search for a missing Navy sailor in Virginia. On Monday, June 9, a body was 'found in an off-base wooded area in Norfolk,' the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) confirmed to PEOPLE. The body was located in the Broad Creek area of the city, according to NBC affiliate WAVY-TV and CBS affiliate WTKR. The discovery comes as authorities search for 21-year-old Angelina Petra Resendiz, who was last seen 'at her barracks in Miller Hall at Naval Station Norfolk' on Thursday, May 29, the Virginia State Police previously announced. The Norfolk Medical Examiner's Office is now 'conducting an autopsy and working to positively identify the victim,' a spokesperson for NCIS tells PEOPLE. In a statement shared with WTKR and posted to Instagram by KMK Productions on Monday, the Resendiz family said they 'are awaiting the results of DNA testing to determine whether recently discovered remains are those of Angelina.' 'The family of Seaman Angelina Resendiz is heartbroken and deeply concerned over her sudden and unexplained disappearance,' they continued. 'Angelina is a loving, compassionate, and devoted individual who has always prioritized the well-being of her family and those around her. The Resendiz family said Angelina's disappearance 'has caused immense grief for all who know and love her,' adding, 'We remain prayerful and hopeful for clarity and resolution.' 'We urge anyone with information about Angelina's whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance to come forward,' they said. 'Your help could be crucial in bringing her home and providing answers.' They also thanked law enforcement and investigators for their 'ongoing efforts,' as well as 'everyone who has offered support, shared prayers, and stood with us in the search for Angelina.' KMK Productions did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. Angelina 'was working on the USS James E. Williams at the time of her disappearance,' according to a GoFundMe campaign started to support her mother, Esmerelda Castle, in her search for her daughter. Castle said friends told her Angelina was with another sailor around the time she disappeared, NBC affiliate KCEN-TV reported. She previously told ABC affiliate WVEC that her daughter was regularly in contact with friends and family before her disappearance, but suddenly stopped responding on May 29. She also said that her daughter had 'spent no money' and 'made no calls' since she disappeared. While speaking to WTKR, Castle said that a fan at her daughter's barrack's 'was still on' and other personal items, like food and a yoga mat, were 'untouched.' "I love her. And she doesn't deserve to just be a missing person,' Castle said, per KCEN-TV. She added, 'Angie belongs to everyone. These kids, these mothers, these sons, these daughters, they're all of ours." 'No arrests have been made and no charges have been filed at this time,' the NCIS spokesperson tells PEOPLE. Read the original article on People
