Trump's Epstein birthday letter read out spells trouble for US President
Demands are mounting today for the US President to step down as fresh revelations about his ties with the deceased Wall Street mogul, supposedly gathered in a leather-bound collection by Ghislaine Maxwell, keep surfacing. He's weathering yet another political tempest after the Wall Street Journal revealed bombshell allegations that he sent a birthday message to Prince Andrew's associate Epstein, complete with a sketch of an unclothed woman, suggesting to his former mate they had "certain things in common".
The President has triggered infighting amongst his previously devoted followers who are rejecting his assertion that a "client list" of the deceased paedophile doesn't exist. The controversy erupted following the Department of Justice's announcement that no additional Epstein-linked prosecutions would proceed.
This ruling emerged mere weeks after Elon Musk, previously a staunch supporter of the US commander-in-chief, revealed Trump featured in the Epstein files.
The Journal states the correspondence was uncovered by US Justice Department officials investigating Epstein's closest associates. The paper, supposedly dating from 2003 and penned for Epstein's 50th birthday celebration, was purportedly typed and bordered by the silhouette of an unclothed woman, sketched in indelible ink, with Trump's name placed below her midriff, mimicking body hair, reports the Mirror.
"A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday - and may every day be another wonderful secret," the letter reportedly concludes. The president allegedly penned a mysterious message to Epstein in the note, stating: "We have certain things in common, Jeffrey."
Trump vehemently refuted the claims, branding it a complete fabrication and vowing to take legal action against the publication. "This is not me. This is a fake thing. It's a fake Wall Street Journal story," he declared. "I never wrote a picture in my life. I don't draw pictures of women. It's not my language. It's not my words. I'm going to sue the Wall Street Journal just like I sued everyone else," he further asserted.
Later on Thursday night, the president unleashed his fury on his Truth Social platform, lambasting the newspaper as a "disgusting and filthy rag". "The press has to learn to be truthful, and not rely on sources that probably don't even exist," he posted.
"(The Wall Street Journal) has truly turned out to be a 'disgusting and filthy rag' and, writing defamatory lies like this, shows their desperation to remain relevant."
Many took to social media to call for Trump's resignation. A Twitter user posted: "Trump went from claiming it's 'all just a hoax' to demanding Epstein's 'grand jury rape testimony,' PROVING TRUMP LIED THAT IT'S ALL A HOAX. Trump is relegated to lying and manufacturing a cover-up. RESIGN."
Another chimed in: "I don't believe a damn thing coming out of this administration. They have lied too much and they have no credibility. Release the Epstein files and resign Trump". Inside a 1992 party with Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein talking. (Image: Internet Unknown)
The controversy has reportedly caused a rift between Trump and his long-standing media supporter Rupert Murdoch, with Murdoch's Wall Street Journal and New York Post recently taking a more critical stance towards the president. Senior Republicans suggest that the publication of the Epstein letter story could mark a permanent split between the two.
"The timing, the content, the tone, this is Murdoch finally breaking the glass," a strategist confided to the Mirror.
In response, Trump called for the release of grand jury evidence linked to the Epstein case. "Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney-General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval. This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!" he declared on social media.
Bondi immediately replied: "President Trump - we are ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts."
However, critics have contended that what Trump is proposing Bondi disclose represents merely a fraction of the documentation they presumably possess regarding Epstein's offences. The Journal has not publicly disclosed the correspondence or the accompanying artwork, sparking doubt from Trump supporters and right-wing personalities.
JD Vance, the US vice president, was amongst those who hurried to defend the president, branding the report "complete and utter bulls***". "The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it," he posted.
"Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?".
The Justice Department and FBI have refused to verify whether the correspondence was examined during their recent internal probe, which determined that Epstein did not keep a "client list" and that no additional papers would be made public. In a briefing earlier this month, the Trump administration restated that Epstein had taken his own life in his Manhattan prison cell - a conclusion that has enraged Trump's MAGA supporters, many of whom suspect Epstein was eliminated to shield influential individuals.
In an unusual criticism of his own supporters, he berated those calling for transparency. "It's all been a big hoax. It's perpetrated by the Democrats and some stupid Republicans and foolish Republicans fall into the net, and so they try and do the Democrats' work," he declared on Wednesday.
The president has long been haunted by his connections to Epstein, with whom he was familiar for over a decade until their friendship reportedly ended over a 2004 property dispute. In a notorious 2002 New York magazine profile, Trump was quoted as saying: "I've known Jeff [Epstein] for 15 years. Terrific guy. He's a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he liked beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."
Senior Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and even Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, have joined calls for the release of all files related to Epstein. "Transparency is essential," she stated in a Fox News interview yesterday.
Epstein took his own life in August 2019 while being held in jail ahead of child sex trafficking charges.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy offers Russia more peace talks next week
Ukraine 's president Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Saturday that Kyiv has sent Moscow an offer to hold another round of peace talks next week, and that he wanted to speed up negotiations for a ceasefire. Ukraine and Russia have held two rounds of talks in Istanbul over the past five months. They have agreed to swap prisoners but made no breakthroughs in ending almost 3½ years of conflict that started with Russia's 2022 invasion. 'Everything should be done to achieve a ceasefire,' Zelenskiy said in his evening address to the nation. 'The Russian side should stop hiding from decisions,' he added. The president said Rustem Umerov, who headed the Ukrainian delegation at both talks in Istanbul, had sent the Russian side the offer to hold the meeting next week, but gave no more details. READ MORE Umerov, a former defence minister, was appointed last week as the head of the National Security and Defence Council and tasked with adding more momentum to the negotiations. Russia has been pressing a grinding offensive along the eastern front in Ukraine's Donetsk region. It has repeatedly said it is ready for a new round of talks but has not backed down from what Kyiv and its allies describe as its maximalist war aims. [ Lara Marlowe: Trump's threats against Russia are a charade meant to buy Putin time Opens in new window ] US president Donald Trump, who has sharpened his tone against Russia in recent weeks amid worsening air strikes on Ukrainian cities, threatened harsher sanctions on Russia earlier this month if a peace deal was not reached within 50 days. - Reuters
