Michigan football has surprising transfer portal entry in RB Benjamin Hall
Just days after meeting with the Michigan football media to discuss his role in spring ball and the upcoming season, one player is on the move -- perhaps surprisingly.
Though he wasn't expected to be one of the starters, Georgia-native Ben Hall -- who starred in the spring game two years ago as a true freshman running back -- was anticipated to be a big part of the Wolverines' plans as the third back to see the field behind Alabama transfer Justice Haynes and sophomore Jordan Marshall. Hall started in the ReliaQuest Bowl against the Crimson Tide but mustered only 28 yards on 16 carries. And it appears that he's on his way out the door as he was announced to be entering the transfer portal when it opens this week.
Hall will have three years of eligibility as he redshirted his freshman year. Without him, the Wolverines are getting a little thin at the position, but can expect either second-year tailback Micah Ka'apana or freshmen Donovan Johnson (who is early enrolled) or Japser Parker to pick up some of the load left behind by Hall's departure.
The Wolverines lost both running back starters from a year ago in Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards, who have both exhausted their eligibility. They also lost backup Tavierre Dunlap, who transferred to Eastern Michigan, and Cole Cabana, who transferred to Western Michigan after originally committing to Minnesota.
Fans will get to see Haynes, Marshall, Ka'apana, and Johnson on Saturday in the annual spring game held at The Big House.
