CAIRO – 6 May 2025: Speaking at fourth edition of the 'Listen and Talk' Forum, organized by the Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism (AOCE), Mohamed El-Duwaini, Undersecretary of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, addressed the role of youth in defending the Palestinian cause.
He stressed that this cause must hold a central place in their hearts. He denounced Zionist propaganda as false and manipulative, asserting that the Zionist entity has no legitimate claim to Palestinian land.
Duwaini warned against Israeli attempts to minimize the conflict by turning it into a dispute between the Palestinians and the Israeli gang, and distancing it from its Islamic framework so that the youth are far from supporting Palestine and Jerusalem. This all is pure illusion. So, he urged youth to see through these efforts and to understand the true nature of the Zionist project: racist, expansionist, and colonialist.
He called on young people to counter these narratives through voluntary initiatives that expose Zionist atrocities and maintain the Palestinian cause as a top priority across the Arab and Islamic world. He praised the global popular solidarity with Palestine, expressed through peaceful demonstrations and public awareness campaigns in capitals worldwide.
'The persistent oppression, displacement, and land confiscation committed by the Zionist enemy,' he said, 'demand that young people take initiative and volunteer for Palestine.' He described this as a national, religious, historical, and humanitarian duty. He underscored the significance of the 'Listen and Talk' Forum, especially in a world plagued by ideological conflicts, deep polarization, and deliberate attempts to destabilize nations. These efforts, he warned, often target the youth—nations' most vital asset—in attempts to sever them from their faith, history, and identity.
El-Duwaini emphasized that youth are the most valuable treasure any nation possesses—its pillar of strength, living wealth, and enduring hope. He stressed that a nation's progress and civilization are reflected in its investment in youth and its commitment to equipping them to shoulder the future.
He cautioned against framing or limiting the outcomes of the forum, instead calling for reflection on its stated objectives—goals that should be deeply rooted in public consciousness, especially among young people.
Dr. El-Duwaini conveyed several important messages to the youth, foremost among them being the value of voluntary initiatives.
He explained that voluntary work goes beyond optional prayers or charitable donations; it encompasses all acts that benefit humanity. Volunteering, he said, is firmly rooted in both the Quran and Sunnah and should be understood as a noble religious act with immense spiritual and social rewards.
He urged young people to discover the goodness within themselves, to act without waiting for crises, and to take initiative in doing good for others. Such efforts, he noted, foster stronger communities, build self-confidence, enhance communication, and develop virtues such as compassion, mercy, and empathy.
Dr. El-Duwaini also reflected on Islam's enduring role as a guiding force in society. He described Islam as a pure faith that enlightens hearts, a dynamic legal system that uplifts humanity, and a moral framework that nurtures peaceful and compassionate societies.
He affirmed that the Islamic nation has always remained steadfast—preserving its religion, protecting its sanctities, and taking pride in its values and heritage. Its scholars and thinkers, he noted, have consistently balanced authenticity with modernity, ensuring the faith remains relevant and rooted in truth.
Concluding his speech, El-Duwaini emphasized the heavy responsibility borne by religious institutions and their scholars. He called on leaders to stay attuned to the realities and challenges facing people across all aspects of life—political, economic, social, and educational.
He urged religious figures to offer a balanced and informed discourse to counter deviant ideologies, thereby preserving public faith, safeguarding societal cohesion, and ensuring peace and stability.

Germany warns 'very insufficient' aid entering Gaza under Israel blockade - War on Gaza

The amount of humanitarian aid entering Gaza remains 'very insufficient' despite some limited improvement, the German government said Saturday, following discussions among ministers on increasing pressure on Israel over its blockade of the territory. The criticism came after Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul visited the region Thursday and Friday, and as the German military carried out its first food airdrops into Gaza. Aid groups warn that Israel's blockade has driven more than two million Palestinians into a manmade famine. Germany 'notes limited initial progress in the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza Strip, which, however, remains very insufficient to alleviate the emergency situation,' government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said in a statement. 'Israel remains obligated to ensure the full delivery of aid,' Kornelius added. Concerns over famine in Gaza have escalated sharply in recent days as Israel's over 21-month war and five-month blockade continue to choke off access to food, clean water, and medical supplies. While Israel and its allies claim progress, international aid agencies say conditions remain catastrophic. They warn that aid deliveries are still dangerously low and have called on Israel to grant immediate, unrestricted humanitarian access to the besieged territory. The World Food Programme (WFP) has said it has 300 aid trucks ready for distribution inside Gaza. UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, said it has approximately 6,000 trucks waiting in Jordan and Egypt for approval to enter. 'Allow the U.N., including UNRWA & our partners to operate at scale & without bureaucratic or political hurdles,' Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA's commissioner-general, wrote on X. Lazzarini criticized Israel for allowing foreign countries to airdrop aid, calling it a 'distraction & screensmoke.' A similar effort in March 2024 was widely criticized by humanitarian groups as insufficient to meet basic needs. While Germany has long been a staunch ally of Israel, its government has expressed serious concern over reports that large quantities of humanitarian aid have been looted. Israel has also admitted to empowering Palestinian criminal groups in Gaza to weaken Hamas's control; these groups have been primarily responsible for looting aid supplies. 'The real theft of aid since the beginning of the war has been carried out by criminal gangs, under the watch of Israeli forces,' Jonathan Whittall of OCHA, the U.N. agency coordinating humanitarian affairs, told reporters in May. His comments came in response to Israeli allegations that Hamas was stealing aid. A German government source told AFP that Israel had 'considerably' increased the number of trucks allowed into Gaza, now estimated at about 220 per day. However, this does not match the reality on the ground, where malnutrition is soaring, particularly among children, pregnant women, and the elderly. According to health authorities in Gaza, the death toll from Israel's mass starvation policy has reached 160, including 90 children. A new alert from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) system released this week warned: 'Famine thresholds have been reached for food consumption in most of the Gaza Strip and for acute malnutrition in Gaza City.' It added, 'The worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out in the Gaza Strip.' A German government source confirmed to AFP that the country's security cabinet met Saturday to discuss 'the different options' for increasing pressure on Israel. However, no decision was made. One option under consideration is a partial suspension of arms deliveries to Israel. So far, only Slovenia has taken that step, announcing Thursday a ban on all weapons trade with Tel Aviv. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, the death toll from Israel's war since October 7, 2023, has risen to 60,332, with 147,643 injured. The majority of the dead are women and children. *This story was edited by Ahram Online. Follow us on: Facebook Instagram Whatsapp Short link:

Ukraine Sees 26% Drop in School Graduates

Israa Farhan Ukraine has recorded a steep 26 percent decline in secondary-school graduates in just one year, highlighting mounting concerns over youth emigration amid the ongoing war and compulsory military service. Statistics from the country's national multi-subject entrance exam show that only 208,000 students sat the test in 2025, down from 283,400 in 2024, according to the Kyiv-based outlet 'Strana'. The sharp fall follows reports from last October that an estimated 300,000 pupils in grades 10 and 11 had left Ukraine before the start of the 2024-2025 academic year. Although the Ministry of Education has acknowledged a growing trend of students moving abroad after finishing school, officials insist the outflow is not yet 'widespread.' Education analysts, however, link the exodus to conscription rules: once male students turn 18 they become eligible for mandatory military service and lose the legal right to leave the country. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
