Revanth to mount BC quota pressure in Delhi from Aug 5
AICC State in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy as the dates for Delhi campaign clashed with the proposed Phase-1 of padayatra of party leaders beginning July 31. At a meeting held at the latter's residence in Jubilee Hills, the leaders deliberated on consolidating the party base for the upcoming local body polls, besides the importance of advancing the State government's demand for BC reservation.
During the meeting, it was decided that the padayatra, which was originally planned till August 6, will be suspended on August 4 and resume after completion of the Delhi tour of the party leaders. The leaders also discussed the action plan to intensify the fight in Delhi for Backward Classes reservation.
On August 5, the Congress MPs will give a notice for adjournment in both the houses of the Parliament for a debate on Backward Class reservation. The next day, a dharna will be held at Jantar Mantar over Backward Class reservation. Chief Ministers, ministers, MLAs, MLCs, party leaders and leaders of Backward Class organisations will participate in the dharna.
The Congress leaders will meet President Droupadi Murmu on August 7 to submit a memorandum. The Congress party has decided that 50 leaders and workers from each constituency will leave for Delhi by a special train. The padyatra, aimed at strengthening the party from the grassroots and devising strategies for the upcoming local body polls, would resume after August 7. The padyatra is scheduled to commence at Pargi in Vikarabad district on July 31. The Congress leaders will stay in villages, listen to locals and actively engage in community service named Shramadanam. The campaign will cover one constituency in each of the six erstwhile districts in the first phase. Each day will feature a 10-km padayatra starting at 5 pm, followed by an overnight stay in the village. There will be Shramadanam next day till 11 am, followed by an interaction with local Congress leaders and elected representatives at 3 pm. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and senior district leaders will participate in the programme.

Mumbai: Chief Electoral Officers of Karnataka and Maharashtra on Thursday wrote a letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over allegations he had made against the Election Commission (EC) of colluding with the BJP to steal polls. The Karnataka and Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officers asked Rahul Gandhi to share names of excluded voters and added ineligible ones with signed declaration/oath. Rahul Gandhi cited an analysis of data from a Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka from the 2024 general elections to allege that the Election Commission is colluding with the BJP to "steal elections" and called it a "crime" against the Constitution. Rahul Gandhi claimed that there was a "vote chori" of 1,00,250 votes in a constituency with 11,965 duplicate voters in one Assembly segment, 40,009 voters with fake and invalid addresses, 10,452 bulk voters or single address voters, 4,132 voters with invalid photos and 33,692 voters misusing Form 6 of new voters. The CEOs asked Rahul Gandhi to sign and return a declaration/oath enclosed in the letter, along with the names of electors to initiate necessary proceedings. 'It is understood that during a press conference held today you had mentioned about the inclusion of ineligible electors and exclusions of eligible electors in the electoral rolls…,' the letter by chief electoral officers of both the states read. On the Election Commission's response, Rahul Gandhi said, 'I'm a politician. What I say to the people is my word. I'm saying it publicly to everybody. Take it as an oath. This is their data, and we are displaying their data.' "This is not our data. This is Election Commission data. Interestingly, they haven't denied the information. They haven't told the voter list that Rahul Gandhi is talking about are wrong. Why don't you say they are wrong? Because you know the truth. You know that we know that you have done this across the country...," Rahul Gandhi said.

Cong betrayed Telangana's mandate, says Kishan
Hyderabad: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has launched a blistering attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of betraying public trust, mismanaging the state economy, and failing to deliver on its pre-election promises. Addressing the media in the national capital on Thursday, Kishan alleged that the Congress party, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, came to power on the back of six guarantees and 420 sub-guarantees, none of which had been implemented with sincerity. 'Even before coming to power, the Congress lied at every step. Now, after 18 months in office, they have done nothing but take loans to repay debts and make empty trips to Delhi,' he observed and accused the Congress of pushing the state's economy to the brink of collapse through poor governance and incompetence. The Union Minister claimed that Congress was attempting to divert attention from its failures by launching baseless attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government. 'Revanth Reddy, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi must take full responsibility for the promises made to the people of Telangana,' he remarked. The Congress failed to implement the Minority, Youth, and BC Declarations. For instance, the Congress had promised Rs 1 lakh crore for BC welfare, but not even Rs 40,000 crore had been spent, the BJP leader said. 'They have deceived BC communities with hollow promises and failed to deliver any meaningful empowerment,' he observed.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will address the party's 'Vote adhikar rally' at Bengaluru's Freedom Park on Friday in protest against, AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala said on Wednesday. Alleging that the 'Election Commission has become Election Capture of India', he asserted that the Congress won't permit it and democracy to be obliterated. Amid the raging row over the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Gandhi on July 23 had alleged that elections are being 'stolen' in India and claimed that his party has figured out the modus operandi of the 'vote theft' by studying a parliamentary constituency in Karnataka. The Congress on Wednesday held a preparatory meeting for the protest rally that was attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, state Congress President and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, Surjewala, host of party leaders, ministers among other senior office bearers and functionaries. The Congress had initially planned this protest on August 5, but it was postponed following the death of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren. SC may hear plea on restoring J&K statehood The Supreme Court on Friday is likely to hear a plea seeking directions to the Centre for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan mentioned the matter on Tuesday before a Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran. 'The date (on SC website) shows as August 8. Let it not be deleted,' Sankaranarayanan submitted. The CJI accepted the request. On December 11, 2023, the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the revocation of Article 370, even as it ordered that assembly elections be held in Jammu and Kashmir by September 2024 and its statehood be restored 'at the earliest'. Last year, a plea was filed in the top court seeking directions to the Centre for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir within two months. The application was filed by Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, an academician, and Khurshaid Ahmad Malik, a socio-political activist. 'It is submitted that the delay in the restoration of statehood would cause serious reduction of democratically elected government in Jammu and Kashmir, causing a grave violation of the idea of federalism which forms part of the basic structure of the Constitution of India,' the application said. Amit Shah to lay foundation stone for Sita temple in Bihar Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Janki Mandir at Punauradham in Bihar's Sitamarhi district, considered the birthplace of Goddess Sita, on Friday, officials said on Wednesday. The foundation stone-laying ceremony of the project, worth more than Rs 882.87 crore, will also be attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, several Union ministers and other dignitaries. Talking to PTI, Bihar BJP spokesperson Niraj Kumar said, 'Shah will lay the foundation of the project for the redevelopment of 'Janki Mandir at Punauradham in Sitamarhi on August 8. Plea on Dharmasthala issue in SC The Supreme Court would hear on Friday a plea challenging a recent order of the Karnataka High Court quashing a media gag on reportage surrounding the controversial Dharmasthala mass burial case. The High Court on August 1 set aside an earlier gag order issued by a Bengaluru civil court restraining reportage on the burial case. 'Around 8,000 YouTube channels are running defamatory material against the Dharmasthala temple,' an advocate submitted before a Bench headed by Chief Justice B R Gavai and sought urgent listing of an appeal against the high court order. On July 23, the CJI-led bench declined to hear another petition filed by YouTube channel Third Eye challenging a sweeping gag order that restrained media houses from reporting on matters related to the brother of Dharamadhikari D Veerendra Heggade of Dharamsthala in Karnataka. The gag order was over reports on the alleged murders of women in Dharmasthala in the state's Dakshina Kannada district. Odisha Congress to begin Nari Nyay Yatra The Congress in Odisha on Friday will begin its Nari Nyay Yatra in various districts to protest the rise in crimes against women. State Congress president Bhakta Charan Das said the protests would continue till August 14. Congress members will gherao the DGP office in Cuttack at 10 am on August 8, demanding the arrest of the three people who allegedly set a girl on fire in Puri's Balanga. We had given a seven-day ultimatum to the police to arrest the culprits,' Das said. Das urged women, students, and the youth to join the programme in large numbers. Bandi Sanjay to depose before SIT in phone tapping case Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday will depose as a witness before the SIT investigating the alleged illegal phone tapping during the previous BRS regime. Kumar had earlier asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials to record his statement on July 28, but he could not do so in view of the ongoing Parliament session, his office said on Tuesday. The BJP leader is expected to submit a lot of evidence in the phone-tapping case, it said.
