OJ Simpson's ex-pal recalls chilling conversation after murders: ‘I knew he did it'

If he did it.
OJ Simpson, who was on trial for the double murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1995, was controversially acquitted in one of the 20th century's most famous trials.
In the new Netflix docuseries 'American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson' (out Wed., Jan. 29 on Netflix), Simpson's former agent, Mike Gilbert, recalls a chilling conversation they had shortly after Simpson was acquitted.
Gilbert, who had worked with Simpson for 18 years, asked the former NFL star and actor, 'What happened that night?'' referring to the night of the murders.
'I said, 'You know, OJ, I always thought you did it,'' Gilbert said.
He alleged that in response, Simpson 'glanced up.'
'He just kind of shook his head and he said, 'If Nicole wouldn't have opened the door with a knife, she would still be alive,'' he claimed Simpson replied.
Gilbert said that was the end of their relationship.
'I didn't sleep very well that night….So, I quit,' he said.
Nicole — who was married to OJ from 1985 to 1992 — and Goldman were stabbed to death in 1994 outside the former's home in the Brentwood neighborhood of LA. She was 35 and Goldman was 25. Although OJ was acquitted in the murder trial, two years later, a civil jury found him liable for wrongful death and he was ordered to pay millions to the families.
Simpson ultimately lived to age 76, before he died of cancer in 2024.
Goldman's sister, Kim, recalled onscreen in the doc that at Ron's funeral, 'My brother had his neck severed. So they had to hide certain parts so that they wouldn't see it … it was all very super f–ked up.'
Tom Lange, the cop who made the phone call to inform Simpson that his ex-wife had been murdered, noted onscreen that the former football star got upset on the phone.
'But he doesn't ask what happened, or anything else. Not a lot of questions from Simpson … Didn't ask, 'How did she die, who would kill her?' We don't get any of that, which doesn't make any damn sense.'
Lange also recalled that when he made the same phone call to inform Nicole's family that she had been killed, 'I hear screaming, 'that motherf—er, that son of a bitch, he killed her' on the phone.'
He clarified that the woman screaming was Denise, Nicole's older sister, who repeatedly said: 'It's OJ! It's OJ! I know he did it!''
Ron Shipp, a former cop who was friends with Simpson and testified during the trial, recalled visiting Simpson at the latter's home shortly after the murders.
When he noticed a cut on Simpson's finger and asked about it, Simpson told him he cut it in his car seat after he dropped his phone.
However, when another visitor came over and asked about Simpson's finger, Shipp observed Simpson telling a different story.
'He goes, 'I cut my finger on a glass in Chicago,'' Shipp recalled.
Simpson allegedly told him 'I've had dreams of killing her' about Nicole. Nicole also confided in Shipp before her death, 'Your friend OJ hit me. And this is not the first time.'
After seeing Simpson allegedly lie easily about the cut on his finger, Shipp recalled, 'I left his house and got in my car and I called my wife first and I was crying.'
He explained, 'I was crying, because I knew he did it.'

Myles Garrett repeatedly declines to address his 8th speeding ticket after citation for driving 100 mph: 'Ask a different question'

Myles Garrett declined to address his latest speeding ticket on Wednesday as he faced media for the first time since being cited for driving 100 mph in his Ferrari. The Cleveland Browns captain and six-time All-Pro defensive end was asked repeatedly about the infraction during media availability at Wednesday's Cleveland Browns practice. Each time he was asked about it, Garrett said that he preferred to discuss football. "I'd honestly prefer to talk about football and this team than anything I'm doing off the field other than the back-to-school-event that I did the other day," Garrett said when first asked about it. When pressed that "people want to know about that," Garrett again deflected. "People want to know a lot of things," Garrett continued. "I try to keep my personal life personal. And I'd rather focus on this team when I can." [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Garrett faced repeated questions about the citation during his availability and continued to decline to address the situation, including when asked about his role as a leader on the Browns. "Again, you're asking the same question, and I've answered it two different times," Garrett said when pressed again. "I'm gonna need you to ask a different question so I can focus on this team and not this headline you're trying to get out this question that you're asking." Garrett's 8th speeding ticket since joining Browns Garrett was cited on Aug. 9 for driving 100 mph in a 60 mph zone in the Cleveland suburb of Strongsville, Ohio. The incident took place on Saturday morning, a day after the Browns returned home from a preseason road game against the Carolina Panthers. The citation came with a $250 fine. The speeding citation was Garrett's eighth since he joined the Browns as the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2022, Garrett flipped his Porsche and was cited for driving 65 mph in a 45 mph zone leading up to the rollover crash. Garrett sustained a shoulder sprain and biceps strain among other minor injuries in the crash that took place in September that year and sidelined him for Cleveland's Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons. Garrett returned to the field the following week and played the rest of the season en route to earning second-team All-Pro honors. Garrett, 29, is entering his ninth season with the Browns as their best player and the veteran leader on the team. He signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns in the offseason and will entered the 2025 season among the favorites to win Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career.

49ers WR Demarcus Robinson suspended three games

The NFL has suspended wide receiver Demarcus Robinson three games for violating the league's substance abuse policy, coach Kyle Shanahan said on KNBR. It is a suspension the 49ers anticipated when they signed Robinson in the offseason. Robinson was playing for the Rams when police pulled him over Nov. 25 for driving his car at a speed in excess of 100 mph. He refused a field sobriety test. In July, Robinson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge. A judge sentenced Robinson to 36 months of probation and imposed a $390 fine. Robinson also was given penalty assessment and was ordered to complete a series of programs, including a three-month alcohol program and a hospital and morgue program. Robinson had two other charges — driving with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol content or higher and driving without a valid license — dismissed. The 49ers open the season against Seattle, New Orleans and Arizona, games Robinson will miss before he can return for a Week 4 game against Jacksonville.

Giants' risky quarterback experiment couldn't have worked out any better

It has worked. It can be declared a success. Access the Giants like never before Get texts from Paul Schwartz with all the latest Giants news and insights, exclusive to Sports+ subscribers. SIGN UP NOW The grand plan, which seemed as if it could go sideways, stayed directly on course. The four inhabitants of a quarterback room assembled by the Giants all passed Chemistry 101 with honors. What at first seemed like a combustible cast of characters with a risk of a strained personality mix quickly evolved into a copacetic environment. Advertisement This brainchild of general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll attracted all sorts of derision from outside the building. Granted, it is quite a collection. Sign veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston — there's a whole lot to unpack with both of these guys — select Jaxson Dart in the first round of the draft and unload those three newcomers into a setting that included one holdover, Tommy DeVito. Combine all those ingredients, shake well and serve. This foursome enjoyed each other's company during training camp and, by all accounts, it turned out to be a supportive, agreeable and at times amusing (thanks, Jameis) NFL indoctrination for Dart.
