Iconic internet provider to switch off after 34 YEARS as exact ‘death date' revealed
A LONG-RUNNING internet provider that was huge in the late 90s and into the 00s is finally preparing to switch off. At its peak the firm had more than 30million customers worldwide. 2 2 But many people are surprised to learn that the service in question still exists to this day in some countries. AOL has revealed plans to shut down its iconic dial-up internet service for good. Its legacy AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser will be discontinued as a result too. But the firm's email has survived the cull and will continue as normal. AOL's dial-up is set to end on September 30. "AOL routinely evaluates its products and services and has decided to discontinue Dial-up Internet," the company said on its website. "This service will no longer be available in AOL plans. "As a result, on September 30, 2025 this service and the associated software, the AOL Dialer software and AOL Shield browser, which are optimized for older operating systems and dial-up internet connections, will be discontinued." The move impacts the US and Canada, where the company has offered dial-up since 1991. A few years later AOL made waves across the pond, with its famed "You have email" greeting voiced by Joanna Lumley for the UK and the AIM messenger. CHECK YOUR SPEED: Broadband AOL's UK internet provider operation was bought by TalkTalk 's then-owners in 2006, which included 600,000 on dial-up and 1.5 million with broadband. These were eventually rolled into the TalkTalk brand - but it's not clear whether any of TalkTalk's dial-up services still exist today. The Sun has approached TalkTalk for clarity. Like many of these legacy internet brands the one reason they seem to carry on is for one thing in particular - email. Much like your phone number, people are anxious to change their email address and prefer to stick with what they have. And for that reason, AOL will stick around for a bit longer yet.

Klarna, the global flexible payments provider and digital bank, has expanded its footprint in ecommerce through a new enablement via the Stripe for WooCommerce integration. 0 Klarna's payment methods are now automatically available to the hundreds of thousands of WooCommerce stores using the Stripe plugin, with no additional setup required from merchants. Today's online shoppers want more flexibility—split payments, try before they pay, or just a faster checkout—but too often, those choices are buried or missing entirely. By making Klarna available by default, Woo merchants can now meet modern checkout expectations straight out of the box. 'Online businesses lose out every time someone gives up at checkout,' said David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna. 'With the Stripe for WooCommerce integration, we're fixing that. Thousands of merchants are getting Klarna overnight—no code, no extra steps. The result will be fewer drop-offs, more happy customers, and more sales for Woo's merchants.' WooCommerce powers over 4.5 million online stores, from side hustles to household names. Indonesia eyes 'sovereign AI fund' to drive development, document shows
JAKARTA, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Authorities overseeing the development of artificial intelligence in Indonesia have proposed a "sovereign AI fund" to finance the archipelago's ambitions to become a regional hub for the fast-growing technology, a government document showed. Last month, Reuters reported that Southeast Asia's largest economy would release its first national roadmap on AI in a bid to attract foreign investment as it looks to join the global AI and chip-making race. The race has seen neighbouring Malaysia secure billions of dollars from global tech firms seeking to build critical infrastructure to meet growing demand for cloud and AI services. The Indonesia strategy, released in the form of a 179-page white paper seen by Reuters, recommends, among other things, a sovereign AI fund mainly handled by the country's new sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia, which controls over $900 billion in assets. Danantara Indonesia did not immediately reply to a request for comment. The paper did not specify the amount that would be needed, but estimated a 2027 to 2029 timeline to set up the fund, and a public-private model to finance Indonesia's AI push. It also suggests increasing fiscal incentives for domestic investors in AI, without providing details. The strategy paper, which the communications and digital ministry said still awaits public feedback before the final draft, maps Indonesia's computational readiness for AI and makes recommendations for AI-related policy strategies until 2030. "Indonesia right now is in the early stages of AI adoption," the document reads. Industry players including Chinese giant Huawei and Indonesia's biggest technology company GoTo ( opens new tab contributed to the report. An April report by the Boston Consulting Group said ASEAN nations were positioned for substantial AI-driven gains, with GDP contributions ranging from 2.3% to 3.1% by 2027, and Indonesia could see the highest impact in terms of absolute gross domestic output growth.
