Kick Off A Marvel Blockbuster Summer With These Tabletop Accessories

Forbes01-05-2025
The summer blockbuster movie season is here and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has two entries this year. Thunderbolts* arrives this weekend with a team full of unlikely heroes. The Fantastic Four: First Steps brings Marvel's first family into the MCU on July 25th, 2025.
Fans of Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game have a lot to be excited about this summer. There's an expansion that covers everyone's friendly neighborhood superhero in all his forms plus some accessories to make playing the game even easier. Thanks to Marvel and Asmodee for sending review copies for this article.
The Spider-Verse Expansion details everything Game Masters might need to know about Spider-Man to use him in their stories. The book goes through the character's history and highlights all sorts of heroes, villains and other moments that can be used to spin off new stories. There are nearly one hundred full character profiles in this book from throughout Spidey's history, including ones that find him at a specific time in history or during a particular storyline.
It also leans into the popularity of Into The Spider-Verse and Across The Spider-Verse by detailing the worlds of Ghost-Spider, Spider-Man 2099 and several other characters that were featured in those films. Given the multiversal nature of the RPG, it seems like a group could run an all Spider-Folks game with this book. Or, given the popularity of Venom and the symbiotes, one where everyone bonded with some alien goo.
There's also a meaty section of new rules for all things Spider-Man adjacent. There's a discussion of how to make meeting a multiversal variant of a character intriguing and unique as well as new origins, traits and power to expand options for original characters. For players who want personal drama in their stories, there's systems for heroic reputation and wrestling with secret identities included as well.
Getting into a new role playing game can be intimidating. Some folks want to try before they buy. Starter sets are a great way for players to have an adventure over a few nights to see if they want to get the full experience.
Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game Escape From Planet Hulk is a boxed set full of everything needed to play a comic book tale full of action and intrigue. Players choose to play one of the six included characters who find themselves yanked across space by The Grandmaster to compete in some intergalactic gladiatorial games. An encounter with The Hulk gives them an opportunity to escape but that's easier said than done.
The boxed set includes maps, character folios, tokens and a set of unique d-616 for play. The adventure also features a lot of familiar faces like Ultron and Korg. It's a great choice for comic fans or for people who are more familiar with the MCU.
Fans who want to add a new dimension to their role playing battles can pick up a pack of Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game 2D Minis. Each set comes with 10 iconic Marvel characters perfect for the location map or the battle grid. They also come with a compact stat card featuring the strengths of each character.
These pieces are cheap alternatives to fully painted miniatures. They work great for games run at conventions or game stores. They also let Gme Masters have ready characters to play for friends that want to drop in for a cameo appearance in a campaign.
All of these Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game accessories can be found through online retailers or at Friendly Local Gaming Stores across the multiverse.

Webtoon Soars 97% as Disney Pact Brings Marvel, Star Wars Comics to Platform

(Bloomberg) -- Webtoon Entertainment Inc. surged 81% in its best day since going public last year after announcing a partnership with Walt Disney Co. that will bring iconic characters such as Marvel's Spider-Man and Luke Skywalker of to its platform. The deal will allow it to publish 100 reformatted comics from Disney brands to a dedicated section on Webtoon's English-language app, the company said in a statement on Tuesday after the market's close. The two will also produce original web comics together. 'Together, we're bringing this legendary storytelling to a new generation of mobile-native comic fans, while giving existing fans a new way to experience series and characters they love,' said Yongsoo Kim, chief strategy officer and head of global Webtoon. Disney marks the latest collaboration for Webtoon, a platform that allows creators and users to make and discover digital comics. The company also counts South Korean entertainment firm HYBE Co. Ltd. and DC Comics, which is owned by Warner Bros Discovery Inc., as content partners. But even with the stock's surge, the stock is still below the $21 price of its initial public offering last year, following a previous string of disappointing earnings reports. Morgan Stanley's Matthew Cost said the Disney partnership is an 'intriguing development.' 'We believe this will be an important audience building effort that could help accelerate user growth in English speaking markets,' Cost wrote in a note published on Wednesday. 'Our key question is whether that Disney audience will stay in Webtoon to consume and create platform-native content, or will they only consume the branded content they know?' PlayStation Plus is Sony's version of Xbox Game Pass, and it offers subscribers a large and constantly expanding library of games. There are three PlayStation Plus tiers -- Essential ($10 a month), Extra ($15 a month) and Premium ($18 a month) -- and each gives subscribers access to games. You can also check out the games all PS Plus subscribers can play in August, including Lies of P. Marvel's Spider-Man When you start this game, Spider-Man is already a pretty experienced crime-fighter. That means you aren't working your way up from fighting street-level crooks to organized criminals. No, you're swinging right into fighting heavy-hitters like Wilson Fisk and Shocker. As you're fighting these major players in the criminal underworld, you'll also have to navigate Peter Parker's personal relationships and career while still trying to help the millions of people in New York City. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (game trial)* Hideo Kojima is back with another trippy and visually stunning game. Death Stranding 2 is set a few months after the first game in the series. The United Cities of America are connected, but humanity still faces the threat of extinction. It's up to you and your team to travel a world filled with strange enemies to answer haunting questions, like whether people are better off disconnected from one another. Note that this is a time-limited trial. PS Plus Premium subscribers can only play five hours of gameplay. If you decide to buy the game, your progress and trophies will carry over. Resident Evil 2* Sony Experience the classic 1998 PlayStation game that helped spark a media franchise. This isn't the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remaster, but the story remains mostly the same. You'll play as rookie cop Leon Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they explore the city's remains and try to escape with their lives. But plan accordingly. With limited supplies scattered around the map, you might not be able to shoot your way out of every situation. Billy Joel closing Long Island motorcycle shop amid health issues

NEW YORK — Billy Joel is closing his Long Island motorcycle shop following being diagnosed with a brain disorder. 20th Century Cycles in Oyster Bay will close in late September and Joel will auction off his collection of bikes later this year. In May, Joel, 76, announced that he was canceling upcoming concerts after learning he has normal pressure hydrocephalus, a fluid buildup in his brain that can affect thinking, concentrating, memory, movement and more. The 'Piano Man' singer told Bill Maher on his 'Club Random' podcast in July that he was having trouble with his balance but otherwise was not experiencing other symptoms. Joel opened the downtown Oyster Bay shop in 2010 to showcase his collection to the public at no charge while also using the space to repair, maintain, restore and customize more than 75 rare and expensive motorcycles, including Harley-Davidsons, Triumphs, Ducatis and others. The collection includes a 1952 Vincent Rapide worth tens of thousands of dollars. The section of the street the shop is on was renamed Billy Joel Way in 2023. 'I think everybody in Oyster Bay would agree that it's a big loss,' Ted Bahr, who owns a vintage rock poster gallery next to 20th Century Cycles, told The Associated Press. 'Billy's place is visited on weekends by dozens and dozens of people, typically on motorcycles but also people in cars. People come up and look at the window all the time. I mean it's a real destination. Billy Joel is a real superstar, and he is a hometown boy, so it's really unfortunate.' Joel is also in the midst of selling his Oyster Bay estate and relocating to Florida. No date has been set for the motorcycle auction. _______
