Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, the PA news agency understands. Claims of a bid of 90million euros (£78m) being accepted for the Frenchman appear to be wide of the mark, with the two clubs still in negotiations over the fee and the structure of any transfer. But it is understood Liverpool are increasingly confident an agreement will soon be struck, with personal terms already reached with the 23-year-old, who has made a splash in the Bundesliga after last year's switch from Paris St Germain. Ekitike initially moved to Frankfurt on loan 18 months ago before completing a permanent switch in the summer and he scored 15 goals in 31 games to help the club finish third in the German top flight. His exploits attracted the attention of Newcastle, who reportedly had a £70m offer for the France Under-21 international knocked back and have subsequently seemed to have dropped out of the race. Liverpool had been weighing up a big-money move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, although with the Magpies warning he is not for sale, the Premier League champions switched focus to Ekitike. Arne Slot's side have already signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez this summer, with Giorgi Mamardashvili linking up with the side after agreeing a move last August. The likely arrival of Ekitike to Anfield for another sizeable transfer fee might nudge Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa closer to the exit door as Liverpool look to balance the books. Luis Diaz is still attracting attention from Bayern Munich although the Reds have no plans to sell the Colombian.

Former Wolverhampton pharmacy to be demolished
Plans to demolish an empty pharmacy and rebuild it as a new salon as part of plans to transform a row of shops in Wolverhampton have been approved. The former Newbridge Pharmacy, in Tettenhall Road, will be replaced with a new a salon built across three former Mark Taylor antiques shop next door, which has been boarded up and closed since the late 2000s, would also be demolished under the application, submitted earlier this year, said both buildings on the busy Tettenhall Road had "fallen into disrepair" and had structural defects that could cause a "major hazard if allowed to decay further." The plans for the new salon would see treatment rooms built in the former pharmacy's basement with the ground and first floors also new shop units would also be built on the ground and first revamp of Tettenhall Road will see the existing pharmacy, which relocated two doors down a few years ago, remain.A structural survey accompanying the planning application said the buildings earmarked for demolition were "structurally unsound" and repairs to the roof, walls and floors would likely cost more than rebuilding. The survey recommended it would be "preferable to demolish the building and start from scratch". This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations. Spaceport Cornwall to help develop hypersonic defences
Spaceport Cornwall has been selected by the government to help develop hypersonic defence technology for the site based at Cornwall Newquay Airport is one of 90 organisations chosen to be part of the Ministry of Defence's £1bn Hypersonic Technologies and Capability Development seven-year programme aims to research and develop hypersonic technology - such as guidance systems, warheads and liquid propellants - as part of the government's Strategic Defence bosses said the site's horizontal launch capabilities and location opposite RAF St Mawgan were beneficial for the scheme. Ross Hulbert, head of engagement at Spaceport Cornwall, said the site was ready to support the testing, development and deployment of the UK's future defences."This is a defining moment for Spaceport Cornwall and demonstrates our commitment to supporting Britain's defence capabilities," he said."Our unique position as the UK's first licensed spaceport, combined with our world-class facilities and proximity to both civilian and military aviation infrastructure, makes us ideally suited to contribute to this vital national capability," he said.
