Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum
has given fans a brief but telling update on his recovery from a serious Achilles injury, and his message doesn't sound optimistic. The injury, sustained during the conference semifinals against the New York Knicks, has sidelined the franchise cornerstone for months—and his latest post hints at mounting frustrations.
Jayson Tatum's injury and early recovery struggles
During a non-contact play in the playoffs,
Boston Celtics
star Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles tear, requiring surgery and an extended rehab process. His recent social media update was short but revealing, with the star expressing clear dissatisfaction with being sidelined.
Before the injury, Tatum was in peak form:
- Fresh off an NBA championship and Olympic gold medal
- Named to the All-NBA First Team after a dominant regular season
- Averaged 28.1 PPG, 11.4 RPG, and 5.4 APG in the playoffs
This setback couldn't have come at a worse time, as Tatum was solidifying himself as one of the league's elite players.
How the Boston Celtics are adjusting without Tatum
With their superstar facing a lengthy recovery, Boston has already begun reshaping its roster:
Key Moves This Offseason
Details
Traded Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis
Reduced payroll while adding flexibility
Acquired Anfernee Simons
Near All-Star guard to bolster backcourt
Added depth pieces
Focus on younger, cost-effective options
These changes suggest the Boston Celtics are preparing for a potential "gap year," prioritizing flexibility for when
Jayson Tatum
returns.
When can fans expect Tatum back?
While a 2024-25 return seems unlikely, there's a slim chance Jayson Tatum could play late in the 2025-26 season. At just 27 years old, he has time to regain his form, but Achilles injuries are notoriously difficult to recover from.

Former England cricketer Wayne Larkins passes away at 71

Wayne Larkins (Image credit: England Cricket) NEW DELHI: Former England and Northamptonshire cricketer Wayne Larkins has passed away at the age of 71 after a short illness, according to a statement on the Northamptonshire website. The former international, affectionately known as "Ned", died on June 28. Larkins represented England in 13 Tests and 25 One Day Internationals between 1979 and 1991. His second appearance came in the 1979 World Cup final, where he batted at No. 7 and bowled two overs. However, one of his most memorable moments came over a decade later during the 1989-90 tour of the West Indies, when he scored the winning runs at Sabina Park to give England a surprise 1-0 series lead — in what was only his seventh Test, more than eight years after his sixth. Larkins' international career might have included more caps, but he was banned for three years due to his participation in the unofficial 1982 rebel tour of South Africa. He spent the majority of his domestic career with Northamptonshire, playing over 700 matches for the club. Larkins was renowned for his fluent strokeplay and lively personality off the field. Later, he moved to Durham, where he eventually retired from a remarkable career that yielded more than 40,000 runs and 85 centuries across formats. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like USDJPY đang đi lên không? In 1983, he hit a career-best streak, smashing 236 against Derbyshire at Derby and following it up with 252 against Glamorgan at Swansea — all within a span of seven weeks. That form might have warranted an England recall, had he not been serving a ban for his role in the rebel tour. Wayne Larkins will be remembered not just for his talent and achievements on the field, but also for the joy and energy he brought to those around him. IND vs ENG: 'Far too defensive' - Former India cricketer urges captain Shubman Gill to be more aggressive

Rishabh Pant with Shubman Gill (Getty Images) Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has weighed in on Shubman Gill 's captaincy in the wake of India's five-wicket defeat to England in the first Test at Headingley. While acknowledging Gill's composure and talent as a batter, Manjrekar cautioned the young skipper against being too defensive in his approach, especially when conditions are in India's favour. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Speaking on Star Sports' Game Plan, Manjrekar said Gill is 'sorted' as a batter at No. 4 and will only improve with experience. 'I just hope he can carry on after getting to a 108 or 120 because now he knows what could happen if he gets out. So that is something he will start doing,' he said. 03:11 India's Day 2 at the Nets in Edgbaston | IND vs ENG Test Series However, it was Gill's field placements and leadership that drew greater scrutiny. 'Overcast conditions, I know the ball wasn't doing too much, but they pre-empted the English approach and had a far too defensive field,' Manjrekar noted. 'I hate to bring Virat Kohli as a comparison because it's unfair on the young man, but you can just imagine Virat Kohli in that situation.' Poll Do you think Shubman Gill should adopt a more aggressive captaincy style? Yes, he needs to be more aggressive No, his current style is fine Maybe, depends on the situation Undecided 'Whether they would have got wickets or not, Kohli would have shown the opposition that he's trying to get them out. Gill is not that kind of personality, nor that kind of captain. But maybe don't go so defensive pre-empting things,' he added. Manjrekar also praised Rishabh Pant 's hunger and resilience, saying he is likely to carry his twin tons into the second Test. At the same time, he warned KL Rahul to maintain consistency. 'KL Rahul cannot be a one-hundred wonder or a one-Test-match performer. Indian cricket needs him badly,' he said. The second Test begins Wednesday at Edgbaston, with India trailing 0-1 in the five-match series. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.
