Saquon Barkley declines President Trump's invitation to serve on sports council

'A couple of months ago, it was brought to my team about the council, so I'm not really too familar with it,' Barkley told reporters on Monday. 'I felt like I'm going to be super busy, (so) me and my family thought it was probably in the best interest to not accept that.
'I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned,' Barkley said, 'but I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it.'
Trump revived the fitness protocol on Thursday with several council members in attendance, including Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor, LIV golfer Bryson DeChambeau, retired LPGA star Annika Sorenstam and WWE executive Paul 'Triple H' Levesque. Trump said other council members include former NFL quarterback Tony Romo, current players Nick Bosa and Tua Tagovailoa, as well as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The fitness test was established in the 1960s but ended during the administration of former President Barack Obama. According to the White House, the order reiterates the administration's 'commitment to ending the childhood chronic disease epidemic and ensuring the strength, vitality, and excellence of future generations of Americans.'
Barkley flew on Air Force One and played golf with Trump before the Eagles visited the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl LIX victory in April. Amid backlash, Barkley defended himself in a post on X, saying he respects the office and similarly played golf with Obama 'not too long ago.'
The fitness executive order was the latest example of Trump's focus on sports during his second term.
Earlier this month, he signed an executive order intended to bring order and stability to college sports. In March, Trump established a White House task force for the 2026 World Cup, and on Tuesday, Trump plans to create a task force for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, according to The New York Times.

Video emerges of Sha'Carri Richardson shoving boyfriend at Seattle airport prior to arrest
A week after reports that sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson had been arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, video of the incident has emerged. Richardson was arrested after a fight with her boyfriend and was charged with fourth-degree domestic assault; the case has since been cleared. TMZ published security footage of the incident, which took place on July 27. The footage shows Richardson repeatedly shoving her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, as they walked around the airport concourse. At one point, Richardson pushed Coleman into a large pole. Police arrested Richardson after viewing security footage of the altercation. The sprinter was held in South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Wash., that evening and stayed there for nearly 24 hours before being released on July 28, according to jail records. Coleman reportedly refused to press charges after the incident. Coleman and Richardson went public with their relationship in February, though Coleman reportedly told police that the two have been together for two years. Under Washington State law, calls related to domestic violence require mandatory arrest if police respond within four hours of the incident. Following the incident, Richardson took part in the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oreg., last weekend. Despite advancing to the semifinals of the women's 100-meter race last Thursday, Richardson later pulled out of that competition. She went on to compete in the 200-meter race on Sunday, but fell just short of the cut to advance to the finals in the event. At the time that reports came out about the arrest, USATF told USA TODAY that it was aware of the incident, but did not provide additional comment. The organization has yet to comment following the release of the security video. As the reigning world champion in the 100-meter, Richardson will automatically qualify for the event at the World Championships in Tokyo in September.

Injuries have Buffalo Bills RB moonlighting at K
Injuries have the Buffalo Bills scrambling, and it's been a common theme this summer dating back even before the start of training camp. However, with camp at St. John Fisher University now in the books and the first preseason game on August 9, there isn't time to sit back and hope things quickly improve. To that end, the Bills have had to get creative on special teams, deploying running back Ray Davis as placekicker with Tyler Bass sidelined due to pelvic-area soreness. It's not an ideal situation, to say the least. Given the current news about starting running back James Cook, the Bills can ill-afford to see Davis himself sidelined (potentially due to injury) while handling kicking duties. Buffalo is fortunate there's still time to tackle the team's latest kicking woes, but the regular season is just a few short weeks away. To that end, head coach Sean McDermott revealed that the Bills worked out placekickers John Hoyland and Caden Davis. Hoyland and Davis are undrafted rookies — having spent time this spring and summer with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets before their releases, respectively. Will the Bills trot out Ray Davis in extended fashion, asking him to moonlight as an NFL placekicker this Saturday? It remains to be seen with the team having yet to announce a signing at the position.
