Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announces Khelo India University Games 2025 in Rajasthan in November
The multi-sport Games, where more than 4,000 athletes are expected from more than 200 Universities. Like previous editions, there will be at least 20 disciplines on the KIUG 2025 program. Chandigarh University had won the team championships at KIUG 2024, co-hosted by Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland and Tripura.

'I am extremely happy to announce that the Khelo India Youth Games will take place in Rajasthan in November 2025. These Games are for under-25 athletes and will be coming after the under-18 Khelo India Youth Games that took place in Bihar in May this year. These Games offer great opportunity for athletes who seek a national platform to impress our numerous scouts eyeing the best talents in the country,' said Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya.
Eight Khelo India University Games records were created in athletics in KIUG 2024. Five of them were created by men. 'Worldwide, university students dominate multi-sport events. In Rajasthan, we hope to see some quality performances as we expect the athletes will be at their peak,' added Mandaviya. A total of 770 medals - 240 gold, 240 silver and 290 bronze - were on offer at the 11-day KIUG 2024 held in North-east India for the first time. Over 200 universities competed for the KIUG 2024 title with around 4,500 athletes taking part in 20 sports.
Swimmer Pratyasa Ray of Utkal University, with four gold, one silver and one bronze, was the most successful female athlete. The honour of the most successful male athlete went to Jain University's Xavier Michael Dsouza, who won four gold medals. Lovely Professional University came second at KIUG 2024 with 20 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze for a total of 42 medals while Amritsar's Guru Nanak Dev University were third with 12 gold, 20 silver and 19 bronze for a tally of 51. Captain Himmat Singh contributed 30 runs from 30 deliveries, providing stability in the middle wickets fell quickly, with opener Shivam Gupta bowled for a duck on the very first ball, followed by Parth Bali and Dhruv Kaushik also departing within the powerplay. The Lions' bowling attack, spearheaded by Manan Bhardwaj (3/12 in 3 overs), was relentless, while Anirudh Chowdhary (2/26) and Shubham Dubey (2/25) complemented the effort with timely breakthroughs to restrict the late resistance from Lakshay Thareja (13* off 9 balls), the Tigers concluded their innings with a modest total. BCCI introduces serious injury substitute rule after Rishabh Pants injury
New Delhi [India], August 16 (ANI): In a significant step towards player safety, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a serious injury replacement substitute rule in domestic cricket. The regulation, aimed at ensuring players do not risk aggravating injuries, will come into force from the Duleep Trophy starting August 28, which also marks the beginning of the 2025-26 season. The rule will also apply to the Ranji Trophy, India's premier first-class competition, as per this rule, teams will be allowed to bring in a non-playing squad member as a like-for-like replacement, provided the injury is deemed serious. The final approval will rest with the match referee, after the team concerned submits a medical report confirming the nature of the injury. Importantly, the rule only covers injuries sustained during the match and those of an external nature, for example, a fracture or a deep cut caused by an impact rather than internal issues such as a hamstring idea gathered momentum after Rishabh Pant famously batted with a fractured foot against England in Manchester earlier this year. According to the BCCI's regulation, the replacement player must be from the list of substitutes named at the in the case where the wicketkeeper is seriously injured and needs to be replaced, then the match referee may allow a wicketkeeper from a player outside the nominated substitutes if there is no wicketkeeper in the nominated the injured player and the replacement will be considered to have officially played in the match for records and this change, Indian domestic cricket will now act as a testing ground for what could eventually become a global regulation. Sisodia sizzles as Gulbarga Mystics defeat Shivamogga Lions by 10 wickets
Mysuru (Bengaluru) [India], August 16 (ANI): Openers Luvnith Sisodia and Nikin Jose combined in a fiery unbeaten stand to make light work of a revised target of 92 runs (VJD method), guiding the Gulbarga Mystics to 10-wicket victory over the Shivamogga Lions at the Maharaja Trophy. The Gulbarga Mystics snapped out of a two-match losing streak and scripted the Lions' fourth consecutive loss, according to a release from the Lions were set up by Dhruv Prabhakar's crucial knock of 44 runs in 27 balls, before rain curtailed their innings at 127/5 in 15.5 overs. Shashi Kumar K was the pick of the Mystics bowling attack with two crucial wickets Chasing the revised target, Sisodia (58* off 24) and Jose (34* off 15) went on an early onslaught. Sisodia launched into Vidwath Kaverappa in the opening over, clearing the ropes once and striking two crisp boundaries. Jose then tore into the Kaverappa in the third over, plundering 24 runs with a six and four consecutive fours, putting the Mystics firmly in control.
