Report: Rockets, Ime Udoka won't entertain interest from Knicks
With a sudden coaching vacancy, the New York Knicks reportedly have interest in Ime Udoka. But that interest doesn't seem to be reciprocated by either the Rockets or Houston's head coach.
'Regarding reports identifying Ime Udoka as a possible target for the vacant Knicks coaching position, Houston has no interest in entertaining that,' The Athletic's Kelly Iko writes, citing a team source. 'Both parties are committed to the long-term project and are actively preparing for a busy offseason.'
As things stand, Udoka is midway through a four-year contract that he signed in April 2023 to coach the Rockets. Thus, the Knicks and Rockets would need to come to some sort of compensation agreement in order for Udoka to be let out of his existing deal, and it doesn't seem there's any interest from the Houston side in exploring that.
The Rockets have improved significantly in Udoka's two seasons with the team, and he just finished third in 2024-25 NBA Coach of the Year voting. He's under contract for multiple seasons moving forward and is viewed internally as a foundational piece. Thus, there is zero interest from Houston in parting ways.
From a practical standpoint, the interest from the Knicks could perhaps be used by Udoka and his representatives in eventual talks regarding a contract extension. Salaries for NBA coaches have risen in the two-plus years since Udoka signed his initial deal with the Rockets, and coaches rarely enter the final 'lame duck' year of their contracts. Thus, at some point prior to the 2026-27 season, it's likely that Udoka and the Rockets will enter into a new round of negotiations.
In that negotiating context, interest from other teams around the league can build up Udoka's market, and it helps to be publicly viewed as desirable. But there remain no indications that he wants to leave Houston, and the team certainly wants to keep him around, as well.
Though the Knicks (51-31) made it to the conference finals in a weaker Eastern Conference, they actually had a worse record than the Rockets (52-30), even with Houston facing a tougher West schedule. Combine that with Houston having a younger roster with more room for internal improvement and a better future draft outlook, and it would seem that the Rockets are the superior situation from a basketball standpoint, as well.

Reports: Eagles obtain WR John Metchie III from Texans
The Philadelphia Eagles acquired receiver John Metchie III from the Houston Texans on Sunday, according to multiple reports. The Texans received tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick in the deal. Houston also sent a sixth-round pick next season to the Eagles. Metchie, 25, had 40 receptions for 412 yards and one touchdown in 29 games with Houston over the past two seasons. He was a second-round pick in the 2022 draft but missed that season due to a battle with leukemia. Metchie played college football at Alabama and was a teammate with Philadelphia wideout DeVonta Smith with the Crimson Tide. Smith won the Heisman Trophy in 2020 when he and Metchie were the top two target on the school's national championship team. Bryant, 27, has caught 98 passes for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns in 78 games (33 starts) over five seasons for the Cleveland Browns (2020-23) and Las Vegas Raiders. 2025-26 Rockets schedule: Most months grade out as easier than NBA average
In HoopsHype's month-by-month breakdown of each NBA team's 2025-26 schedule, only Houston's October and February opponents grade out as above average in difficulty. Heading into the NBA's 2025-26 regular season, the Houston Rockets appear to have one of the league's easiest schedules. As further evidence, our friends at HoopsHype broke down which parts of the season would appear to be tougher or easier for each team. The methodology is as follows: We used average over/under win projections from the most popular sportsbooks to build a month-by-month Strength of Schedule (SOS) for every NBA team in 2025-26. For each month, we calculated SOS as the simple average of that month's opponents' projected wins. We also tracked games scheduled per month, opponent total wins, and a normalized SOS Index where 100 equals the league-average opponent (the higher the number, the more difficult their schedule is). The complete data set can be viewed here. For the Rockets, the monthly breakdown goes as follows: So, out of seven months, only two are above the league average of 100 — and both by a very slight amount (100.7). But, there's more! October is an extremely limited sample with by far the fewest games of any month, since there are only three games due to the league's Oct. 21 start date. So, among the six months with a more substantive sample, only February — which includes a break of more than a week midway through it for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game — currently grades out as above average in difficulty. Coming off a season with a 52-30 record and the No. 2 mark in the Western Conference, it would appear that the Rockets — who acquired Kevin Durant this offseason and could have further growth and development by young stars Amen Thompson and Alperen Sengun — should have every opportunity (assuming health) to build on that in the upcoming 2025-26 campaign.
