'I don't play for City yet' – Midfielder casts doubt over Etihad Stadium transfer
City have been working on a deal for the 18-year-old central midfielder as Hugo Viana progresses a major change of guard at the Etihad Stadium after replacing Txiki Begiristain as director of football earlier this summer.
Viana has already overseen the arrival(s) of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki in this transfer window, with Manchester City making an early statement of intent ahead of the new season after enduring a sub-par 2024-25 campaign.
A meagre third-place Premier League, a Round of 16 exit in the UEFA Champions League and defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final in the recent campaign has prompted officials at the Etihad Stadium to conduct a ruthless audit of Guardiola's first-team squad.
After a strong start to the transfer window, Manchester City are understood to have won the race to sign Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg for an amount that is set to record the highest transfer fee paid for a player coming out of Norway.
Manchester City's midfield has already undergone major change in this window, with Reijnders and Cherki joining in after club bosses decided against offering a new deal to Kevin De Bruyne, who has joined Napoli on a free transfer after agreeing a two-year contract with the newly-crowned Serie A champions.
After returning home from their FIFA Club World Cup commitments in the United States in June, Viana and co are believed to be shifted their focus on outgoings to streamline Guardiola's bloated squad and cut the first-team wage bill before the new Premier League campaign begins in August.
City have already sold Kyle Walker to Burnley in a deal that could fetch the club £5 million. Maximo Perrone is set to join Como on a permanent deal, with James McAtee also expected to leave permanently. Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish have been told to find new clubs, with at least one centre-half also expected to depart before the window closes on September 1.
Speaking to a young supporter earlier this month, Sverre Nypan insisted that while he 'does not play for (Manchester) City yet', there remains a chance of joining the Etihad Stadium club in what he described as a 'maybe' possibility.
When quizzed by the young fan on why joining Manchester City could only be described as a 'maybe' for now, Nypan continued, 'I don't know we'll see, it's not done.'
Borussia Dortmund have also expressed an interest in Nypan, who has established himself as one of Europe's brightest midfield prospects in recent seasons, which could well see him link up with Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium when the new season begins.
It remains to be seen whether Nypan is considered as an immediate addition to Guardiola's squad amid uncertainty over the future of Ilkay Gundogan, who has attracted interest from Turkey despite wanting to stay on at Manchester City after returning to the club from Barcelona in dramatic, last-minute fashion last summer.

The National Maritime Services, working on behalf of the U.S. Marshals Service, is auctioning off a superyacht, the $300-million-plus Amadea, which currently sits in a San Diego harbor, with a bid deposit starting at $10 million. Florida-based Fraser Yachts, the auction's promotional agents, described the prize 'as one of the most comprehensively equipped yachts in her class.' The 348-foot-long ship was built in 2017 and can comfortably host 16 guests in eight luxurious staterooms. An additional 21 cabins can house a professional crew of up to 36 workers. One of the ship's jewels is a glass elevator that serves all decks, while a second lift is available for crew. The yacht includes a glass-edged mosaic pool with submerged bar stools, and an outdoor bar area surrounded by sun pads (cushioned areas for perfecting your tan). The ship's main salon showcases a piano and marble fireplace. The yacht was designed by Espen Øino, the acclaimed Norwegian designer and naval architect, while its decadent interiors were created by designer François Zuretti. The ship has an ocean-crossing range of 8,000 nautical miles at a speed of 13 knots. For late-arriving quests, the Amadea also boasts a helideck. The U.S. Justice Department maintained in a 2023 civil forfeiture complaint that Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov was the ship's owner. Kerimov took possession of the vessel sometime around 2021, though his transactions were cloaked through shell companies, according to the complaint. Kerimov was sanctioned by the U.S. in 2018 and labeled a Specially Designated National for his alleged role in money laundering related to the purchase of French villas. The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control determined Kerimov was a direct beneficiary of Russian President Vladimir Putin and 'played a key role in advancing Russia's malign activities,' which includes the invasion of Ukraine. The U.S. has said it's working with allies to put pressure on Russian oligarchs, some of whom are close to Putin and have had their yachts seized, to try to compel him to stop the war, the Associated Press reports. The Amadea was seized in Fiji in April 2022 and arrived in San Diego in June that year. The Southern District of New York ruled in March that the Amadea was to be forfeited to the federal government. That decision is being appealed by the man who claims to own the sumptuous vessel — Eduard Khudainatov, the non-sanctioned former chairman of Russian state-controlled oil giant Rosneft, according to the Associated Press. U.S. prosecutors maintain that Khudainatov is a straw owner of the yacht. On July 1, the Marshals Service authorized Fraser Yachts as the promotional agent for the sealed bid auction. The auction is being conducted in U.S. dollars and is running until 11 a.m. on Sept. 10 at The initial deposit necessary to make a bid is $10 million. All bids will remain sealed with the highest bidder winning the yacht. Should multiple participants tie with the top price, each bidder will be given a chance to increase their offering until a winner is determined.

Rio Ferdinand dramatically changes tune on Sesko as Man United snap him up
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has made a U-turn on RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, who is closing in on completing a switch to Old Trafford. United agree deal with Leipzig After wrapping up a deal for Bryan Mbeumo, United turned their attention to signing a striker, promptly identifying Sesko as their top transfer target for the position. United settled on Sesko from a two-man shortlist that also included Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins. Unlike with Watkins, where United seemingly had a clear path, the Red Devils encountered strong competition from Newcastle in the pursuit of Sesko. The Magpies lodged two bids for Sesko, the latest one valuing him at €90m. Ruben Amorim's side sent in a slightly lower offer and even presented Sesko with lower wages than Newcastle were willing to give him. Earlier on Thursday, news broke that United had found a breakthrough as they struck an agreement with Leipzig for the Slovenian. Sesko instantly boarded a jet to England and pictures have since surfaced of him in Manchester as he looks to finalise his move. A week ago, Ferdinand weighed in on the Sesko vs. Watkins debate and didn't mince his words as he made it clear that United would be better off if they pursued Watkins. Ferdinand argued that Sesko would be a big risk signing, unlike Watkins, who is already familiar with the dynamics of the Premier League and would hit the ground running from the first day. However, the six-time Premier League has now changed tune, emphasising that Sesko has what it takes to thrive at United. 'Two of those guys have played in the Premier League and scored goals here. Sesko, now, has to go and transform his form, his goals, his menacing play, at times, into the Premier League and that's the big question.' 'What I would say is not only are the goals a step up, but I would say the mobility in the front areas now is something, as a defender, I'm looking at now and I'm thinking differently about Manchester United's frontline.'
