Jagan slams Andhra govt for ‘failing to support students and unemployed youth'

Amaravati, Jun 24 (PTI) YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday lashed out at the ruling TDP-led coalition government, accusing it of betraying youth and students.
The former CM questioned why students were allegedly assaulted for simply submitting representations and asking for the implementation of the Rs 3,000 monthly unemployment allowance as promised by the TDP during the election campaign.
Reddy questioned how many of the 1.25 crore unemployed youth in the state received the allowance.
The YSRCP supremo further alleged that Rs 6,400 crore in dues from the erstwhile YSRCP government schemes, Jagananna Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena, remained unpaid, 'forcing students to abandon education and seek jobs.' He alleged that only Rs 750 crore was released from the Rs 4,200 crore due under the fee reimbursement scheme, while Rs 2,200 crore was pending under hostel assistance.
He warned Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu against crushing dissent and declared that betrayal, lies and neglect would not go unpunished by the people.

BJP municipal council chairman held on bribe charges
Jind: In BJP-ruled Haryana, the anti-corruption bureau on Saturday nabbed BJP leader and Julana Municipal Council chairman Dr Sanjay Jangra over an alleged bribe of Rs 2.27 lakh. His receptionist was arrested for allegedly accepting the cash. According to the ACB DSP, a contractor from Bhiwani, Manoj, filed a complaint alleging that Jangra was demanding a commission of 2.5% in exchange for clearing payments. On the basis of this information, ACB formed a raiding team and gave the complainant Rs 2.27 lakh marked with powder. When the complainant spoke with Jangra, he allegedly directed him to hand over the money to his hospital receptionist. As soon as the complainant handed over the cash to receptionist Satbir, the ACB team caught him with the money. The ACB team detained Jangra for questioning and seized a DVR from the spot. When Satbir's hands were washed, the powder turned his hands red, confirming the bribe transaction, said officials. A DSP-vigilance at Bhiwani said the contractor undertook work worth Rs 10 crore in Julana, out of which 50% was completed. The matter is under investigation and the suspects will be produced in court, where the entire case will be revealed, the DSP said. Dr Jangra has been living in Julana for 35 years, having opened a hospital in 1984, soon after completing his MBBS. PM to inaugurate projects worth ₹11,000 crore to boost Delhi's connectivity today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two major national highway projects worth ₹11,000 crore in Rohini on Sunday. The projects — the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway — aim to decongest the Capital and improve connectivity, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta termed UER-II a 'historic gift' for the city and said that it would not only move Delhi closer to becoming traffic-free but also strengthen connectivity across the National Capital Region. Ms. Gupta inspected the venue in Rohini Sector 37, where the inauguration is scheduled to take place. She said the UER-II would reduce the travel time from the Singhu border, which connects Delhi with Haryana, to the IGI Airport from two hours to around 40 minutes. Meanwhile, the Congress hit out at the BJP-led Centre over the 'high' toll tax on the UER-II. Delhi Congress spokesperson Naresh Kumar claimed that the toll tax in Delhi is higher than in the neighbouring States of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. He demanded a reduction of toll charges by at least 50%.

Students should develop strong moral character that is woven patiently from threads of principle, doctrine and obedience to become successful in life and career, said Justice R. Mahadevan, Judge, Supreme Court of India, on Saturday. In his inaugural address at 40th convocation of VIT at its campus here, Justice Mr. Mahadevan said that strong moral character helps to make consistent correct choices in the trials and testing of life. It helps a person to grow as leaders of tomorrow to guide fellow citizens of the country. 'Righteous character provides the foundation of spiritual strength which will lead to success in your entire life. Students should have faith in themselves to face challenges in life,' he said. The Judge emphasised on the importance of reading among students as it is the gateway to the world of knowledge. Students should deepen and broaden their knowledge in every field to become more stronger in human values, he said. In his presidential address, G. Viswanathan, founder and chancellor, VIT, said that at present, parents especially from the middle and lower class were finding it challenging to pay fees of their children especially for higher studies in private universities. In this regard, the government should share at least a portion of fees paid by parents as it will encourage more students from rural areas to pursue higher education. 'Tamil Nadu tops in allocating the highest share of its budget allocation for education in the country with 21% of its budget in 2025-26. On the contrary, the Centre has allocated only 2.5% of its budget allocation of Rs 55 lakh crore for education this year (2025-26). On the occasion, Sandeep Rai Rathore, Director General of Police, Training, Police Training Headquarters, Chennai, received his Ph.D in Disaster Mitigation and Management at VIT, Vellore. A total of 11,563 students got their degree certificates including 451 PhD scholars.
